The Community Round Up

The Fantasy Football Scout community spent the last seven days dusting down after another eventful double Gameweek, whilst beginning preparations for yet another to come in a fortnight’s time. We look back on discussions of the current best-laid plans, whilst revisiting the reaction to our new live and interactive ScoutCast. Elsewhere, in this week’s round-up, we focus on the community leagues dedicated to those Fantasy managers rising like a phoenix from the ashes of a dismal start.

The Hottest Topics

For many of the community, Gameweek 34 was one to forget, as faith in much-fancied double Gameweek captains, Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku, fell flat. It was left to Jason Puncheon to supply the Gameweek’s biggest score – an unlikely source which inspired us to ask whether Gameweek 34’s events will influence decision-making when the next double rolls around. Saata was unshaken in his support of the heavy-hitters, announcing his backing for Aguero for City’s matches. Meanwhile, Applebonkers offered a word of caution for those holding out on David Silva – stating that his ongoing ankle problems are likely to see the Spaniard miss out on one of City’s pair of fixtures. It was a subject that received further analysis from Bantamphil only this morning in his post on Silva’s prospects through to Gameweek 38.

Not content on looking ahead to Gameweek 37, Archie focused on the great Fantasy Football lottery that is the final Gameweek of the season. His excellent analysis singled out those teams still driven by the motivation of glory or survival and those with their minds already on the first tee.

With Aaron Ramsey back in action and back in the points, the pool of midfield talent is filling up by the week, providing the catalyst for Fantasy managers to consider a move away from the trusted 3-4-3 and consider drafting in five across the middle. Irish Madridista was on hand to offer this nuts and bolts guide to the midfield options, covering heavy-hitters, form players and some cheaper punts for those seeking an end-of-season flair pick.

We jumped on that bandwagon further by asking for your views on the perfect midfield five. Moin piped up to nominate David Silva, Juan Mata, Christian Eriksen, Santi Cazorla and Raheem Sterling as his quintet of choice, while Crystal Pulis, included Adam Lallana and Steven Gerrard in his selection. Few of those involved picked out “traditional” midfield generals other than Gerrard, a view that inspired one of our most active hot topics of the week, as we pondered whether Gerrard and his fellow central midfielders can continue to keep pace with their attacking counterparts next term. Saint Adam questioned whether Yaya Toure could replicate this season’s haul, while Yes the Sess! also felt that the era of the high-scoring central midfielder will be short lived.

The week also saw plenty of discussion surrounding our revamped ScoutCast. For the first time the community were given the opportunity to interact during the recording of an episode, whilst watching a live stream of Mark, Granville and the team. TorresMagic asked for the community’s thoughts on the new format with The 3rdTurd calling for fewer beards, after discovering that the hosts and special guest Luke Weston, the Fantasy Premier League number one, were all sporting unkempt facial hair on the night.

The new podcast format involved the community quizzing the hosts and their guests on their season so far. Arbroath 36-0’s question on this season’s most infuriating player, was among those aired on the night. Pug Life announced that he was most frustrated by Charlie Adam’s inconsistencies and on-field squabbles, while Rigby of St Pauli was quick to consign Lukaku to the dog-house – a fate compounded by his Gameweek 34 failings. It was a subject that received further attention earlier today, with Fortunesalwayshiding enquiring as to our Heroes and Villains from the season.

Finally, just a week on from nominating the community’s most helpful posters, The Stock did his bit as a good Samaritan by submitting a superb stat attack, packed full of useful information about the key teams and players to digest as the season draws to a close.

The Community Tournaments

There was celebration in HeelsOver Head’s Worst to First- 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, as leader Teltzham Hotspurs became the competition’s first manager to break the 1,000 rank mark. He ascended to an impressive 908 following Gameweek 34’s matches. Yolo Toure is in second with a rank of 5,564 and Bales of Fury sits in third with a rank of 8,280. There are now seven teams within the top 100,000.

There were some similarly impressive climbers in Kings of Lyon’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire league, for those with a rank outside of the top 1,000,000 at the Gameweek 8 mark. Of the 61 entrants, all but two are now safely in the top 1,000,000, 19 are within the top 100,000 and there are two managers in the top 10,000, including top place Elizabeth Genius, who sits in 2,982.

Chickenwithpeas’s score of 83 was enough to secure top spot in @ocprodigy’s Gameweek 34 Scout Pick Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks. Legendkiller was in second with 79 points, while Greenwindmill and LilMessiPran were tied in third on 70 points.

In the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators leagueSpencer extended his lead at the top to 13 points following Gameweek 34 and the final of AZ’s FFS Non-Qualifier Cup saw our Sky expert D1sable crowned champion, after beating DannyRex25 by a 14-point margin.

In TorresMagic‘s competitions, AJ topped Last Man Standing where six were eliminated leaving 11 to fight out the last three rounds. His FPL Open and Elite 64 competitions have now reached the quarter final stage. Full details can be found here.

I won a competition? cool! On a separate note im now having reservations on my planned move of:

    Azpi -> Jones
    Lukaku -> Rooney (-4)

Sets me up nicely for the double but United are just sooo poo. Also Azpi bound to get a cleanie right?

Yes it does, unfortunately Rooney is just a punt at this stage and I wouldn't be surprised to see Norwich turn United over.

It really does, I am tempted by a 1week punt on Lukaku---->Wickham or Borini in for -4pts and as captain.

Then losing Wickham/Borini or Suarez for Rooney if I fancy it

Did you know Arsenal have only managed to score three or more goals in the league once whilst Aaron Ramsey was sidelined for 14 games? Arsenal managed to beat Sunderland 4-1 in his absence.

With Aaron Ramsey on the pitch Arsenal have managed to score three or more goals 9 times, with him contributing in 7 of these matches with a goal or an assist. (7 goals and 6 assists.)

Ramsey drives the team forward. Its a key element in a slow tempo passing game, his penetrating runs ads a clinical high tempo and direct element to their play forcing the issue and produces an end product to Arsenals build up play.

Only twice this season when they haven't scored, they'll have the home support too and I think Chelsea's team may be a bit unsettled what with the CL and potential Ramires ban.

I think I've finally come to accept that Moyes should probably go at the end of this season. Its clear that he isn't able to get the best out of his players. Kagawa, Mata, Rooney, Nani, RVP etc aren't useless players. I think we can easily be drawn to the conclusion that they aren't good enough, they are average, over the hill etc. However the fact of the matter is that Moyes has failed to get the best out of them, they aren't playing well because the team isn't functioning properly. The coaching and management have lead United down the wrong path and has turned the club and their players towards mediocrity. Its time for change.

A few people have mentioned the need for a major clear out, I think if that happens it will be difficult to assemble a strong squad and at the same time allow for it to gel. The longer they are out of Europe the more it hurts the club.

I would agree that a full clear out is not the answer. Moyes might want that but I think the best and most cost effective clear out will be to sack the management team and coaches.

First giant mistake was sacking the management staff. Second giant mistake was signing Fellaini. Third giant mistake was actually signing that Rooney contract. Fourth mistake was forcing Kagawa and Mata to play on the wing (especially having spent that money on him). Fifth mistake was persisting with the crossing system for most of the season. Too many mistakes that are down to management issues and not the quality of the players (even though I believe he inherited a poor team).

World class players should be able to play in any system under any instructions, if they fail to follow instructions the system will inevitably fail. Overpaid tossers, out with the clique and in with the youth I say.

I disagree fundamentally with all of this. In fact, I think that is nonsense.

For a start, some of those players are useless. Secondly, others have fundamental character issues, flaws even. Thirdly, there are aways upsets when the Ancien Regime falls.

Yet that same group of players won the premier league last season. I'm just using logic and scientific theory to make my point.

Last season: same players + SAF won the PL by 11pts
This season: same players + Moyes United are 7th

          Whats the difference? Answer: Moyes

TBH United fans have been a bit harsh on Moyes...i mean is it his fault that united don't have a settled back four?? is it his fault dat united have four quality forwards but none of them combines well as a pair?? is it his fault that they have thousands of winger but none of them have the consistency to perform even for two matches in a row?? is it his fault that United don't have a solid Centre Mid!!!! (okay,he brought Fellaini,so prolly its his fault =D)

With due respect to Sir Alex, i think he left the club prolly with the worst possible unsettle squad he ever built..to have a good team u need to have 8-9 players who are sure starters..but the team Sir Alex handed over has hardly 4-5 sure one's..Carrick,Evra,De Gea,Rooney,RVP. Many will argue that Sir Alex won the EPL last year with the same team...but i beg to differ,i think United have been poor for the last couple of years..They won it last year because all of the Rival clubs played with horrible consistency..it looked like none of them wanted the EPL trophy last year..I think even Sir Alex didn't knew which was his best eleven..look at the Everton Side moyes left behind...8 of his main team players are still starting for them...that's called foundation of a team..thats why R.Martinez has settled so quickly.

I think people should try to remember if u were asked the question this time last year-who's the Best EPL manager apart from Sir Alex,i bet many of us would have said "David Moyes"..Everyone thought he's the right man for the transitional period but it seems like restless United fans don't even know what 'transitional period' means.

I was a big supporter of Moyes and have been all season. However I would expect to see improvement but unfortunately I'm just not seeing it. Their attack is impotent against the better sides and RVP and Rooney were dominating last season. I know they've had injuries but even when they were playing together this season they haven't been anywhere near as affective as last season.

David Moyes have a bunch of decent footballers & he said at the begining he's gonna give everyone a chance..There's a huge bantering goin' about him about how many times he changed his team this season..don't forget its the same manager who played the least amount of players in a season, same manager who kept playing the same team again & again for Everton...C'mon we all know he's not a short term impact manager like Mourinho..give that guy a chance..and by chance i mean supporting him..not raising eyebrows every now & thn or just simply sack him -_-

He's had a pretty good chance. I'm not willing to give up on him totally just yet but the hard questions will need to be asked when the final game of the season is done. Lets just say I'm now seriously questioning his role in the team but I'm not calling for his head just yet. The season isn't over yet but we need to finish strongly.

          oh balls.

This weekend my Fantasy Picks have made me feel deeply empathetic towards David Moyes.

I'd love to own Bony right now! But I think it has to be Rooney. He's the one who can cause the most damage. I'd rather have him than not have him.

united with 10 days rest v everton who played a tough game mid-week

      Moyes v his old club.

      Nothing. Embarassing performance.

What makes people think getting united players in is a good idea from this?

It'd be good money on Norwich for their next game.

I may wait until after norwich to decide...

two of the games are against relegation threatened teams, so it wont be easy
