Scout Notes – Gameweek 37 – Wednesday

Edin Dzeko scores twice as City sweep aside Villa to take a significant step towards the title. Yaya Toure chips in with a goal and assist, whilst the City full-backs are also in the points in an emphatic 4-0 win. Goals from Seb Larsson and Fabio Borini help secure Sunderland’s safety as Gus Poyet’s side win for the fourth match in a row:

Dzeko at the Double Again
The Bosnian continued his recent form to help fire City to the verge of the title. Manuel Pellegrini’s side may have missed Sergio Aguero yet again but Dzeko more than made up for his strike partner’s absence by scoring twice and earning the maximum bonus for the second game in a row – serving up a 25-point haul over the double Gameweek. With eight goals and two assists in his last nine appearances, the 7.3-priced striker has stepped up as a key contributor at a time when many of Pellegrini’s main men have been hampered with injuries – as City look to finish the season against West Ham in style and clinch the title, Dzeko’s bandwagon is set to escalate regardless of Aguero’s availability.

Yaya Serves up the Points Once More
Whilst David Silva failed to deliver and Samir Nasri settled for an assist, the Ivorian produced yet another Fantasy masterclass as his relentless season shows no sign of abating. Toure’s goal and assist, allied with a single bonus point, helped his 40% owners to a 17-point double Gameweek total and took the Ivorian onto 235 points for the season. Now up to 20 goals and eight assists, with 10 sets of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) double figures, he’s likely to be the preferred armband choice of many Fantasy managers next Sunday as Pellegrini’s men go for the jugular against Sam Allardyce’s side and attempt to add to their 100-goal haul.

Kolarov and Zabaleta On the Attack
The City full-backs both produced an assist and clean sheet for their owners last night, with the Argentine also serving up a couple of bonus points. The Serbian has now laid on eight assists over his 29 appearances – all the more impressive given that nine of those games have arrived off the bench – whilst Zabaleta’s first assist since December takes his tally to six for the season. The City full-backs sit first and second for assists amongst defenders, and whilst the likes of Toure, Dzeko and Aguero have been the main beneficiaries of Pellegrini’s attacking policy, it’s clear that creativity from deep is also key to the Chilean’s successful system of play.

Black Cats’ Defensive Resilience Key
After the United teamsheet played havoc with our Fantasy plans on Tuesday evening, it was a relief to see Gus Poyet name an unchanged line-up as Sunderland secured their great escape. The Wearsiders chalked up a third successive clean sheet, as Vito Mannone and co racked up the double Gameweek points, with Marcos Alonso proving the pick of the backline bunch after earning an assist and maximum bonus to go along with his pair of clean sheets. The on-loan left-back has now produced two assists in the last four fixtures, and whilst Phil Bardsley sat on the bench yet again as Poyet continued with Santiago Vergini on the right of the back-four, Alonso has backed up his underlying statistics and richly rewarded the 0.3% of Fantasy managers who have gambled on his acquisition.

Borini and Larsson Deliver
Connor Wickham’s run of consecutive returns came to an end last night after the youngster failed to score or assist for the first time in five appearances. Whilst the 4.9-priced forward ended the double Gameweek with seven points to his name after being subbed off around the hour-mark on both occasions, Fabio Borini’s goal and couple of bonus points helped the Italian to a 10-point return over the pair of fixtures. He has now delivered three goals and an assist in his last four, and with a home game against Swansea set to end his season-long loan spell, he could well be in the points once again as Poyet’s side look to finish the season with a fifth straight victory.

Seb Larsson’s assist for Borini’s strike ensured the Swede ended the double as Sunderland’s top-scoring player. Having served up a goal and maximum bonus at Old Trafford on Saturday, Larsson was the Wearsiders main man from an FPL perspective with 17 points – like Alonso, he also proved an outstanding differential, with his ownership less than 1%.

I agree with Moin, Mata should play (may or may not start) but at least will play.
Rambo should also play, maybe as a sub.

I really think Ramsey will be benched and bought second half some point.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Defender rotation

After a flurry of cheap defensive rotation posts at the start of the season the so-called Ubers (who favour a cheap rotating defense) and other fans of rotation at the back have been quiet for months now.

Given the extra points that higher value centre backs can now get from the rejigged bonus system is the age of the Uber now over? Where next for defensive rotation spreadsheets? Is rotation now mainly about getting the best from two cheap goalkeepers?

I don't think the game is up for rotating ubers. I think you don't hear as much of it at the moment because people have built their team values up now and so can afford more premium defenders. This is not the case at the start of the season and you can guarantee that come July or August we will be hunting for the defensive bargains to free up funds for Suarez, Yaya and the like.

My tactic is generally two solid defenders (play every week) and three rotating ubers (play the best one each week). I don't see this changing.

Get two Cheap GK's who rotate well (Speroni and Mannone combination at the end has worked really well for me) and get defenders who also get assist and goal points..as simple as that!

No. The spring has just looked like very good time for expensive defenders. Has it been so, is another thing. I, for one, don't fell I have profited from having 3-4 big ass big club defenders in my team.

FYI, I'm a one who tends to rotate at back, usually doubling up on one team (GK-def) that has strong defence and fixtures, getting one big club defender and a cheap rotation GK and defenders who are reasonably sure to play - no risks, defenders who don't start are worthless.

The best defenders don't always come from the big clubs. Some of the big clubs have pretty poor defences compared with some of the smaller ones.

      Personally I hate goalkeeper rotation.

Those that went Mignolet/Boruc largely got shafted.

I don't think a defence of all cheap is worthwile.

But Coleman/Azpi/Kosc all in the mid price was the way to go.

I take it this is a dig at me but answer me this:

This is my first season without a uber defence. It is the first time I have finished outside the top 10k and this has been my worst ever season.

99.9% of defenders never score more than 5 ppg so why do you see expensive defenders as a necessity? They still score 3-4ppg despite the baps. The same sort of score most ubers get.

You should get a few extra points from your defenders if you spend a little more, but whether or not they are worth it depends on how much you have to skimp elsewhere in order to afford them.

Including 3 non-ubers in my defence has not prevented me from returning to the top 4k, so I don't think you can blame it all on not having an uber defence - unless spending more on defence just doesn't suit your style of play.

I don't remember defensive rotation really working since Newcastle/Swansea a couple of years ago. It's largely better to stick with a first choice three, maybe one to sub in and out - one of these can still be cheap, as Southampton and Palace have shown this season.

it's so simple. ditch a big midfielder and put that money towards 2 extra big defenders (as big mid = 9mil+ and big def = 6mil+).
it really doesn't have to stop you getting those big strikers as you're spending exactly the same on def+mid as the person who plays 2 big defenders and rotates 3 little ones. the second walcott got injured i adopted this

I feel like that is just because it's later in the season. I've noticed a trend where ubers are much more popular at the beginning of the season when budgets are limited and one or two teams with cheap defenders seem to be doing well defensively. as the season progresses, we build up our team values so we can afford more expensive players in our defenses. and similarly, the bigger teams tend to keep more cs in the latter half of the season if I remember the statistics correctly

-- Sturridge, Lukaku, Podolski, Suarez up front.

Can we really expect to claw back any points if we don't have Suarez? surely he'll do well this week, are we just contributing to our own downfall by not having him? I can't see him totally blanking at home to Newcastle..

Morning Guys.........I'm looking for some sound advice.

I've currently got a 4 point lead over my rival going into the final GW of the season.

Our likely teams (without transfers) would currently be:

    Me:
    Mannone
    Baines - Azpi - Stones
    Yaya - Mata - Sterling - Ramsey
    Dzeko - Aguero - Rooney

    Him:
    Speroni
    Evra - Azpi - Ward
    Nasri - Mata - Gerrard - Dorrans
    Suarez - Aguero - Rooney

Obviously the main threat to me is Suarez, so him in seems essential, but what moves would you anticipate him making, and what "blockers" do you think I might need to consider?

Thanks to anybody who takes the time.

I think he will do Aguero to Edin no hit, i think you should do Aguero to Suarez if possible, job done.

Point taken, I don't want to go all out "block mode", but just the key dangers, like Suarez for example.

I think overall my team is better.

Rooney --> Suarez, depending on Aguero/Rooney injury news.
Aguero --> Sturridge/Dzeko might be nice. Although not exaclty a block.

Everything else looks fine. You look set for a win 🙂

How about the subs for each team? I reckon Aguero and Rooney are both major doubts for Sunday so I would look at selling them.
Your rival will probably get Dzeko but Dorrans? I can't see him playing the lad.
Ramsey is fit but could be benched... Probably you get a 100% starter?

Right guys, I know that the last day of the season can be a lottery, but I've clawed back my ML to be a frustratingly slim nine points off top spot going into it, so I'd like some ideas.

    My team -
    Mannone/Marshall
    Stones/Ward/Baker/Bruce/Ferdinand
    Yaya/Gerrard/Mata/Barkley/Ramsey
    Aguero/Suarez/Dzeko

    My rival -
    Mignolet/Stockdale
    Stones/Ward/Shaw/Mertesacker/Cahill
    Lallana/Sterling/Puncheon/Hazard/Januzaj
    Aguero/Suarez/Lukaku

Can it be done? I have one FT and 0.5 in the bank.

If the right player fire, then you have certainly got a chance.

Assume what moves he will make to block you differentials (for example Lukaku to Dzeko might be a move he makes), and look to where you could get an obvious advantage.

Aguero ---> Sturridge looks good, if Aguero is out/likely to be on the bench.

What makes him annoying off the pitch? Never heard him doing much anything there. Seems like he doesn't even exist off the pitch. Probably camps at Camp Nou.

Who again was that guy who always tries to be as good as Messi without quite being as skilled? Oh yeah Cristiano Ronaldo! That guy is utterly annoying off the pitch, too much publicity, would love to never see his face expect when he's playing some football.

Both Ronaldo and Messi are extremely arrogant and annoying off the pitch, Messi gets away with it due to his baby face and he's not as in your face as Ronaldo but he's still arrogant. Guess you have to be a bit arrogant when you're the best player in the world..

Is he that arrogant off the pitch? I don't know. Doesn't show it that much. Anyway, doesn't really get to my list of most annoying at least. Hard to be annoyed by someone who's almost transparent. It's bit like getting annoyed by white paint on the walls. Yeah, it can be boring, but annoying, really?

Yeah neither are the most annoying players off the pitch, they don't come anywhere close to half of the England national team (Rooney, Terry, Cole, Gerrard, etc.)

Joey Barton. Has and always will be, my number 1 most annoying footballer off the pitch, and on it too.

He is a great player, but i find him annoying, so very annoying.
Reason being he obviously has gained so so much from his growth hormons. As i said he has an incredible low center of gravity that makes him do hard to stop. Without the growth hormons he would not be playing the game at all.
He has a big advantage due to his legal doping. This i find annoying.
What he thenhasdone is nothing short of amazing, cause he really is brilliant, but still he has had an advantage that keeps on giving.....

most of that is utter rubbish, though. He's probably the most wrongly treated football player on planet, trolled all the time since he left Arsenal and I wouldn't blame him for a second for responding to that sometimes. Not only to Arsenal fans, but to all shit he gets in France too. Actually, most players would have gone outright primitive if they received his treatment. Not saying his the best guy in world of football, but appears as one of the most polite and well-tempered. Also never has problems with his coaches, takes any role he is given, never complains about anything.

Lads, I've done a Lollerpool and bottled it in my ML. Been leading since Jan and now find myself 2nd 24 points behind....time for drastic measures.

Thinking of doing Johnson Mata Rooney Aguero to Silva Gerrard Sturridge Dzeko (-12) I think the latter could all get double digit scores and I have nothing to lose.

    Thoughts thanks.

My thoughts are, whoever is leading will likely get Gerrard, Sturridge and Dzeko. Silva could be your only differential but seems a bit meek. Would rather a real punt like Barkley

-12 is going to get you nowhere. If you're trying ot ctahc a big lead, forget about Silva

Get the following players IF your rival doesn't have them

      Sturridge
      Dzeko
      Hazard

Chances of Rooney / Aguero / Mata playing this weekend guys?

    For me:

    Rooney - 0% - on for last 15 max
Aguero - 20% - last 20 off the bench if required
Mata - 80% - rested last time out, can see him playing

On that basis Rooney / Aguero > Sturridge / Dzeko worth a -4??

    Cheers

Yes but that set piece glut was earlier on. More recently he just does whatever he wants. 30 yard screamers, hat tricks, 60 yard runs with a top corner finish. He's his own kind of player now.

Chasing a 13 point lead in my ML. Current team is this.

    Mannone
    Demichelis / Coleman / Evra
Eriksen / Mata / Yaya Touré / Barkley
    Dzeko (C) / Suárez / Rooney

    Boruc / Puncheon / Davies / Olsson 2.6 ITB

    Should I do

For these MFs, who would you play in those two spots?

Mata (sou) - Ramsey (nor) - Amalfi (STK)

    Y.Toure - Eriksen - ?? - ??

In normal situation, Mata and Ramsey should be selected. But both didn't play in the last game.
Amalfi and WBA are practically safe from the drop with 17 goals difference.
But last home game of season for the fans.
