Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Sunday

Raheem Sterling grabs a goal and assist as Liverpool edge past Southampton. Daniel Sturridge is also amongst the goals as Nathaniel Clyne slams home the visitors’ consolation. Elsewhere, goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero ensure champions City are off to a winning start with a 2-0 triumph at Newcastle.

Sterling the Star for Reds
A goal and assist from the youngster helped Liverpool to a narrow win over Southampton in the first game of the post-Luis Suarez era. Fielded on the left of a 4-2-3-1 formation, Sterling was second only to Aaron Ramsey for midfield ownership as the season got underway and, like the Welshman, has instantly found his form – with the maximum bonus also accrued, few will be deterred by back-to-back road trips to City and Spurs as new owners look set to come flooding in. A price rise over the week looks assured as Fantasy managers take advantage of the wide man’s current 8.5 price tag.

Sturridge the Match-Winner for Liverpool
Somewhat overshadowed by Sterling’s 13-point haul, the forward nonetheless rewarded his 30% of Fantasy Premier League owners with the Merseysiders’ second in a 2-1 triumph. While the Sterling bandwagon builds momentum, it’s debatable whether Sturridge’s non-owners will be swayed by those upcoming visits to the Etihad and White Hart Lane, with many penciling him in for Gameweek 4 as the schedule starts to smile a little more kindly.

Clyne Strike Offers Hope for Saints
The 5.0-priced right-back leapt onto Fantasy radars with the visitors’ consolation at Anfield. Many expected Ronald Koeman’s side to be on a hiding to nothing after many of last year’s key players left over the summer but Southampton’s performance certainly suggests they could be worthy of our consideration ahead of a very kind run of fixtures. New playmaker Dusan Tadic earned a smart assist for Clyne’s strike, and with midfielder James Ward-Prowse (5.0) handed a start on the right of the front three, there’s reason for Fantasy optimism amongst the St Mary’s outfit aghead of a schedule which affords six kind home games (WBA, NEW, QPR, SUN, STO, LEI) and trips to West Ham, Swansea and Hull in the next 10.

Aguero Seals it for City
Manuel Pellegrini started with Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko up front at Newcastle but both were overshadowed by the fit-again Argentine in City’s 2-0 win. Emerging from the bench on 83 minutes, Aguero needed just seven minutes to find the net and remind us just how devastating a Fantasy force he can be.

With another week until the champions’ next league match against Liverpool, there’s every chance Aguero’s match sharpness will be up to scratch, allowing Pellegrini to start the diminutive frontman. His return immediately places concerns over Jovetic’s security of pitch time, though the Montenegro international turned in an impressive shift, with five attempts on goal and a trio of chances created for his team-mates at St James’ Park. With the likes of Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa so highly owned, Aguero looks a deadly differential in the premium forwards category and currently sits in just 4% of teams.

Silva Off the Mark
The City playmaker underlined the strength of options in the premium midfield bracket by grabbing the opener on Tyneside. Following strikes from Ramsey and Sterling, the Spaniard’s goal also brought him onto radars and offers hope that he could finally be set to overshadow the highly priced Yaya Toure in the City midfield. Like Aguero, Silva is also something of a differential (9%) but many will be understandably cautious here – we’ve no doubts over either’s potential but, as we’ve seen on all too many occasions in the past, whether the pair can string together a run of starts without injury is a little more than questionable.

Bugger, so I have Chambers, Young, Lamela and Jovetic in my team who I'm thinking I need to start looking at replacements for...

Told myself I wouldn't take as many punts this year! Jovetic is probably the most pressing concern but not many appealing options at 8 or under. Agh!

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Dreams shattered or hunches confirmed.

What was the major lesson you have learned from this gameweek so far? Which dream was shattered? Which of your hunches was confirmed?

Perhaps you are regretting getting Bojeselli in? Perhaps you forgot the explosive goal scoring power of Aguero? And who is feeling smug about having Silva in their team (clue - me and D1sable 😉 )?

I've fairly obviously discovered that Siggy is a must for gwk 2 due to price rises and form - if he's played in the hole that is.

I think this may just be a troll free season for non Yaya owners...phew...although I seemed to remember people saying that last season rather alot to their cost.

ManU not being that different under van Gaal was probably the biggest surprise.

Not sure I agree there. 10/10 times, you would have played Chambers at home to Palace over Clyne. Could easily have gone better for you thatn what it did.
I wasn't a big fan of Chambers though as a one week punt, sooner or later you would have to get rid anyway, same reason why I dropped Jovetic.

Also, Young over Sigurdsson was also the logical choice at the point. A United team who impressed everyone in pre-season at home against Swansea. Don't criticize yourself for decisions like that. Any other day you'd have been right.

That no matter what, I will always have something GW1 I hate. After masses of bench points last two years with Dyer and then Shaw, I resolved to go for a 16.5 bench all along - and even then, Hutton came in with a clean sheet as third sub. Still, I think this vindicates the cheap bench and also that rotation is an absolute myth - any player above 4.5, or above 4.0 for a defender, should to begin with be played every week.

Even though I didn't do that well point wise, I feel I've had a pretty good start to the season, with a lot of my hunches confirmed.

Benching Gylfi and Clyne was in retrospect no the best decision, but looking back, I don't really think I would have started them over any of my other players.

I also managed to avoid Stoke players who I had a hunch would fail (and consequently being sold ahead of two away games). I almost jumped on the Jovetic wagon, but went with Costa and Sterling (over Hazard and Jovetic) after news of Agueros return.

Also originally had Ward and Tadic over Wisdom and Sterling, and Tadic really confirmed that he's a player I'll consider. Will most likely do Lamela to Tadic after the QPR game.

Austin over Gylfi could of course have ended so much better had he just scored the penalty, but I'll survive that.

Apart from that, I'm really looking forward to the new season. I think it'll be a really tight and exciting season both in football terms and fantasy terms. Think we'll see many different teams with plenty of players performing well. Enjoy the new season guys. It's good to be back. 🙂

I have Lamela and going to give him one more week due to favourible fixture but then might have to get rid

I was at the game. Lamela appeared to play deeper than Eriksen (I haven't checked the member's area though). Neither had a great game though as Spurs were mainly on the defensive.

I would much prefer to own Eriksen than Lamela though - on the occasions Spurs did attack, he was the one orchastrating it and finding the gap between midfield and defense.

    Dier Juan

It's time to end our Long relationship. I've met a Sterling guy. He doesn't play the Banjo like you, but we take romantic walks down the Rivière. He is a Kuntroll freak. I like that.

    Love you always.

Yes. I entered a £10 game with £90 pot, only 6 players so good equity straight away. They have the pricing all wrong. There were some real bargains like Chambers and Mignolet. Seems they don't even try and figure out who's actually starting. They still thought Reina was no.1! Not sure how the point scoring goes tbh, I just threw the best team in for $.

Anyone here watch Italian football? How did Lamela get all those goals in the toughest defensive league in Europe?

Has he got a wicked left foot and scores lots of long range efforts or dribbles past people and slots it home? Haven't seen him have one shot on goal.

Over the limit - Which foreign player leaves Chelsea?

Premier League rules state that you are allowed 17 foreign players over the age of 21 within their squad and at present Chelsea have 18 foreign players, so Jose Mourinho has his first real dilemma of the season as to who to let go.

As with any decision the club makes, it's all thought out, planned and a process is put into place. Just the other day the manager spoke of Victor Moses and said:

“We have one problem to resolve, that we have one extra foreign player at the moment and Victor is not a foreign player.

Victor is from a position where we have many solutions.

We have Hazard, Willian, Salah and Schürrle. Victor’s best position is from the sides, but he is English and at this moment we have one foreign player who has to leave.

So, until the end of the month, we have to make that decision and Victor is involved in this process, and maybe stays or maybe leaves, but because he is home-grown he is something we have to analyse as well.”

    --

Petr Cech, Fernando Torres, Marco Van Ginkel and Mikel are the players under threat.

    who would go?

I think there is 0 chance Van Ginkel leaves. Mourinho and his staff speak highly of him, just hasn't played as much because of season ending injury last year. I reckon Cech will leave, he won't accept a bench spot. Torres possibly as well, but with Drogba out Chelsea do not have a lot of back ups to Costa.

I've been looking at Kelly, PVA and Vlaar. Of course if he retains his spot, Chambers would be an absolute bargain.
