The Midweek Team News

Dusan Tadic is back for Southampton after returning to full training. Gylfi Sigurdsson is back in the frame for Swansea, Kevin Mirallas “has a chance” of making Everton’s home clash with stoke, Gabby Agbonlahor is available for Villa after the FA overturn his three-match suspension, whilst Chris Smalling could recover in time for United’s home encounter with Newcastle.

Tomas Rosicky, Yaya Sanogo and David Ospina are available for Arsenal’s home encounter with QPR. Laurent Koscielny “maybe has a chance” for Sunday’s trip to Upton Park, whilst Arsene Wenger has confirmed Aaron Ramsey may be on course to return against Southampton on New Year’s Day.

QPR’s left-back Yun Suk-Young is set to be sidelined “for a while” with the ankle injury that forced him off in last week’s home win over West Brom.

Gabby Agbonlahor is available for Villa’s trip to Swansea after the FA rescinded the three-match ban dished out for his dismissal against United last weekend. Paul Lambert also welcomes back Alan Hutton and Tom Cleverly, after both served one-match suspensions at home to the Red Devils, and is hopeful that Joe Cole will recover from a hamstring injury.

Sean Dyche has refused to rule out a return for Sam Vokes, after the forward continued his recovery from long-term injury with another 90-minute run-out for the reserves earlier in the week. Michael Duff is set to miss out once again for the Clarets.

Curtis Davies remains a doubt for Hull’s trip to Wearside due to a calf complaint. Fellow defender Alex Bruce is available after being forced off last weekend, though manager Steve Bruce has revealed Paul McShane is unlikely to feature unless he issues an apology on the back of recent off-field antics. The Tigers boss has recalled Thomas Ince and Maynor Figueroa from loan spells to deal with a lack of first-team options.

Manuel Pellegrini ruled out Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko until “the second part of January” during yesterday’s press briefing. The City boss also revealed the Vincent Kompany and Stevan Jovetic will “maybe” be back for Sunday’s match with Burnley – the latter has returned to training as he steps up his recovery from injury.

Chris Smalling has a chance of returning for United’s clash with Newcastle. Louis van Gaal revealed the rest of his injured players, including Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, won’t recover in time for Friday.

Southampton roll up to Palace without suspended skipper Jose Fonte, though both Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama are available after serving one-match bans last time out. Dusan Tadic has returned to full training after missing the 3-0 win over Everton due to injury.

Anthony Reveillere is ruled out for up to four weeks with a muscle injury for Sunderland, though Billy Jones and Emmanuele Giaccherini are back in contention.

Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that midfielder Ryan Mason can recover from the knock that forced him off before the break during last weekend’s win over Burnley.

Graham Dorrans (calf) and Boaz Myhill (illness) are expected to recover for the Baggies home clash against City, though Victor Anichebe again remains doubtful due to an ongoing groin complaint.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jefferson Montero and Leon Britton are all back in full training and available for Swansea after missing last week’s win at Hull with minor injuries.

Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy both “have a chance” of making Everton’s home clash with Stoke, Roberto Martinez has confirmed. Leon Osman and Tony Hibbert are set to miss to miss the Toffees’ next two matches over Friday and Sunday, though Darron Gibson may yet be in contention.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of Friday morning’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Statistically Villa and QPR are performing similarly away, and in general over the last 4. QPR have conceded twice as many goals of course! - but by all the other metrics they're pretty similar.

Same can be said of Arsenal and Swansea in attack. Arsenal are slightly ahead in all attacking metrics, but not huge amounts in it.

Still though, for some reason I can see Arsenal scoring 3-4 goals, and can't see that for Swansea.
Why am I thinking that? Villa's good point vs United a factor, also Swans have scored just 1 goal in their last 3 (while Arsenal have scored (2, 4, 2 and another 4 at Galatasary).

All this is a preamble to spending my freebie on Bony > Giroud (c)

Would bring Tekkers or Jovetic in for him next week probably. So really just a Boxing Day punt.

Anyone else considering exact same transfer?

Same issue here. Can't do both, hey?
I've gone for Austin, thinking that if anyone scores for QPR, it'll be him. Chambers has suffered some masked criticism from Wenger, so could end up dropped anyway, or re-shuffled defence which will hopefully help QPR get at least one goal.

Oscar is expected to play CAM, so Fabregas will drop deeper and will lose his goal threat. You'd be relying on his assists.

A double digit score is unlikely.

      1. vanillabear
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

His deeper role hasn't stopped him getting in the points before.
Assist machine. Two assists would give him potential double digits (2+3+3+bonus/cleansheet)
He could always come up with a goal.
Only better options are Sanchez and Haz imo, but neither are necessarily nailed this week.

So again, why not on the FFS captain poll? Bolasie is!

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Boxing Day Transfers- Boring or exciting?

This Boxing Day who will be doing the sensible thing and making sure their injured players are replaced even if it is about as exciting as an evening out with James Milner. A good example would be Yun out for another cheap, regular starting defender. What boring, sensible moves are you considering?

Or do you go exciting, run the risk of only fielding 10 players and making a bold move in taking out a starter with a bad fixture for one with a good fixture? A cheap striker like Sakho or Carroll out for Kane would be a good example of this. If you are this exciting type of manager what moves have you in mind?

Planning to keep FT and do Bony to Austin and Siggy or Chadli to Silva on Sunday after I hear the Spurs v Utd lineup
      Pants (Elliott)
      Azpi, Baines, Chambers (Yun, Wasilewski)
      Haz, Sanchez, Siggy, Chadli (Downing)
      Costa, Bony, Kane
      1FT and 2.3m in bank
      Good move or not?

I'm lucky enough to have 14 starters with gilks being my only non-playing player (in theory).

Chambers and perhaps Chadli seem to be under the most risk of rotation but I still reckon both will play.

I think selling one player with a bad fixture for another is a bit silly if both have a chance of starting and you have injuries elsewhere. Getting as many playing players as possible (with perhaps the exception of worrying about cheap defenders who wil probably get 2-4 more points over the next 2 GWs anyway) is the best tactic I think

That said with 2 FTs, no pressing issues and money burning a hole in my pocket I may sell Chadli for silva this week and deal with chambers next week

Finally took out Tiote! 😆 Downgraded Coleman to Hutton and upgraded Cheiky to Cazorla(c). Next I am considering is Rooney to Giroud for -4pts 🙂

The sensible thing would be to take Yun out, as you say, even though he's last on my bench, and always will be.

Despite this, I'm taking a risk with my 2FTs instead, taking out two highly owned attackers, both with good home fixtures.

Siggy and Rooney > Sterling and Giroud (C).

Could be disastrous, but it won't be boring. It is Christmas after all!

      Costa to Giroud

I've done Sakho > Kane this week, so I'm in the exciting category apparently 🙂 However it's also a bit of a safe move, considering that I've saved the other FT.

Choosing the move to make was harder to me than ever. Having no injuries and obvious players to drop and unable to save a transfer, I was forced to think ahead. I rarely do that, focusing mainly on getting players in form. Now I had to guess who would be the next in-form player 😉

After Boxing Day I'll probably sell Baines (depending on Mirallas readiness) or Siggy (if he drops again). Leaning towards the second one as I fancy Sterling in my team.

      Re: Boring or exciting transfers?

Fantasy Football Rule #27: Always make your *necessary* transfers before the *cosmetic* ones.

Too many cosmetic transfers before addressing injured or dropped players & your team starts to look like Pam Anderson; all top heavy, with no substantive base to hold it up.

    Team for this week:

    Foster
    Zab / Azpi / Chambers
    Sterling / Hazard / Sanchez / Siggy
    Sakho / Costa / Bony

Subs: Jedinak / Hutton / Moore

    2 questions…

    1. Good to go, or minor surgery required?
    2. Sakho ahead of Jed, right?

    Thanks
