I will just leave this here Austin has had the most goal attemps this season with 40 percent of the shots being on target.

With poor fixtures/QPR away form, Austin will rely on penos too stay in the big points imo.

        Kane a safer choice

I'm doing an article about GK rotation, looking at the benched fixtures.

    Which would make more sense:

Imagine the fixtures of your two GKs for this GW are Crystal Palace(h) and Hull(a)...

    A) Saying it's an easy decision... because most people would pick the home fixture. If there's points on the bench, you'd always pick the home fixture so it's just bad luck.

    OR

    B) Saying it's a hard decision... because either team could keep a clean sheet or concede. You may get points left on the bench, so you essentially made the wrong decision.

Would really appreciate thoughts on this, even just a letter. A or B? 🙂

Hypthetically you rotate cortouis and krul. Courtouis away against villa, and krul home against city. Play cortouis imo. Om overexaggerrating, But just to make a point

I think that if you go for GK rotation it has to be a long term play and you accept you won't always make the "correct" decision each week but over the period you will outscore a single GK. Therefore its best to have a policy and stick with it, i.e. home fixtures or ease of fixture. Be consistent.

      Therefore A

So what would be the optimal WC defense? I am pretty set on the rest of my team, but the defense seems to be the most difficult to figure out. This is what I am currently at, it does, however, feels like there could be a lot of better options out there.
    Terry-Wisdom-PvA-Janmaat-Clyne

Are there any excellent rotations to keep in mind? Already got Sunderland/Burnley GK rotation so unsure if a dubbel-up in defense in necessary. Thanks for your help! 🙂

I think you're right that Terry is a good pick.

If you can afford it, a Saints defender is a solid and consistent choice alongside him.

Then you want a rotation for your last spot, and a cheap 5th.

I went for: Terry, Bertrand, PVA, Hutton, Wisdom.

All depends on budget of course, but I think that's an appropriate balance.

    ADM.

Is he a good pick? Did he get lucky with some of his attacking hauls, or does his intent going forward result in plenty of involvement and opportunities?

Would you put him in a wildcard team? How does he compare in your mind with someone like Silva?

    1. Mata-Is-The-Juan
      • 10 Years

I did get him in with my WC for this GW. My reasoning is he's been United's most direct player and should get some points. Yes he had jammy goals but the fact remains, he's always willing to have a shot at goal and that's a good thing IMO.

United has favorable fixtures coming up and LVG has his full squad to choose from [only Young out if am right]. Plus he's on some freekicks and corners. Worth the 'risk' IMO.

Regarding Silva, I got him out for Chadli and intend to stick with Kun as my only City player. Lots of cheap [read: Value] options in Midfield to justify that move

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    How is the template changing?

From the usual suspects, who have helped many leap up the rankings in recent weeks, who will stay in the emerging wildcard template? Who replaces them and which under the radar options are we ignoring?

From the current crop of popular players among the top 10K I can see Hazard, Sanchez, Austin, Kane and Pantilimon remaining.

But what of Sigurdsson and Downing? And what of Azpilicueta? Will Terry become the default option?

Yes, No, Maybe. To those 3.

Aguero is 100% essential looking at previous seasons, returns this season and underlying stats, he's just a shots/shots on target/shots in box monster.

Berahino is flash in the pan cheap forwards you see a dozen of every season, his underlying numbers just don't match Austin who's a genuine talent.

Di Maria's shot contribution (Shots+Key Passes) is sky high but doesn't quite have enough shots in the box to convince me just yet.

The question is can the Aguero, Kane and Austin setup keep scoring?

I imagine Kane will but not sure about Austin. No goals from open play in last 4 games. Although here at FPL we don't care about that! 🙂

Wanted to hold off wc but couldnt resist knowing i wanted adm and kun in... silly for me to hold knowing full well both their prices will rise. Pressed the button feel good this morning.

Binned siggy on the wc, thought i wouldnt but i just dont think he is consistent enough for me (is your 4th mid ever?) Got downing in instead for hull then plan to swap out for chadli.
Sanchez staying in (just) and hazard will never leave.

I certainly think the wildcard period could see a lot more turn to 3-5-2, with people picking at least 1 of Kane, Austin and Berahino.

Aguero's the only really essential premium striker. As we've seen, a Chelsea triple up can be successful without Costa.

The wildcard's allow people to fully re-structure and effective 3-5-2, so I'm sure many will be tempted with mids coming back to form and fitness.

      • 10 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

The Terry boat is in full swing and Sanchez is still a mainstay but I don't see either as being essential, Ivanovic could be a good differential in the top 10K and I'd hate to pick an Arsenal player from Rambo/Ozil/Sanchez/Walcott/Giroud.

Austin and Kane are fantastic value and I have nothing against either being your squad as they free up so much funds for elsewhere on the pitch. Really I think it comes down to 2 of Austin/Kane/Siggy/Downing

Currently sitting at overall 1,382 (have been as high as 52) and rising this week - I've gone for a slightly different wildcard approach (I hit the button on Jan 2nd)

      Foster - Panti
      Lescott - Terry - Cahill - Clyne - PVA
      Silva - Sanchez - Hazard - ADM - Sterling
      Kane - Austin - Ings

Going with consistent scoring budget strikers to fund a power midfield and double Chelsea defence. Double WBA defence too is a bonus, and allows me to afford Clyne as an alternative. Also double Sunderland if needed. I'm gambling that a rotation of budget strikers, with Haz plus double Chelsea def will hold off on owning Costa (confident) and my power midfield (with additional points for goals and cleanies) will hold off an Aguero charge (not so confident). 3-5-2 every week.

Happy to have Clyne (off the bench for Cahill), Sanchez and ADM playing today with 56 banked with Austin off the bench for Sterling (last minute switch of Sanchez to Hazard capn though grrr)

With my 3 strikers all outscoring Costa yesterday I'm happy (all with baps), and I will hold 2 transfers back if I lose my nerve to bring in Kun....any thoughts people? I've been tracking a lot of wildcard topic posts and have yet to see this approach which is surprising I think - the capacity of top performing midfielders to score heavily in the second half of the season (as per Ronaldo and Bale of previous years) is too good to resist!

    Current team

    Panti/4.0
    Moreno/Clyne/Terry/Wisdom/Clichy
    Downing/Silva/Sanchez/Hazard/Dyer
    Roonpig/Austin/Kane

    ---

I am a bit loathe to remove Rooney before Fester and QPR, especially as Kun is just returning and does have tougher fixtures. Price rises are annoying but don't mind weathering the storm.

WC plans mostly involve upgrading Dyer, maybe getting Sterling in and adding Heaton to rotate with Panti. Comments welcome.

Indeed. The real issue here is that he has much more team value to spend than most, and as consequence has more big hitters in his team than most, and then people react to that as a problem. A team doesn't become worse because you change your 4.5m bench fodder midfielder to AdM.

In addition, that strong 8 attack is facilitated by the fact that there currently are several cheap strikers scoring well.

That's my man, in addition if you compare Wisdom to Terry 7-10 CS 7-9 BPts. If you do the right combinations to rotate your cheap defenders/GK wisely it will be easy to get the most out of the 4

                  9 years, 4 months ago

It's a nice rotation set up, but with the money available I'd rather upgrade one of the rotating defenders to a Chelsea defender than bench a midfielder every week.
