The Community Round Up

Injuries have ripped apart the “template” teams in the last week or so, creating a variety of discussions in the community, which chew over potential replacements. With the January wildcard beckoning, our focus on the week’s hot topics revisit chat on the options in midfield and goalkeeper rotation pairings. In addition, a late entry from today’s activity took a wry look at the some of the characters that make up the Fantasy Football Scout community. As usual, we round things off with a check on the latest from our community leagues, congratulating an FA Cup winner along the way.

The Hottest Topics

Aaron Ramsey’s injury at Upton Park looks to have put the Welsh wonder out of the picture, causing much consternation and deliberation amongst his army of owners. From the community reaction it’s clear that some will gamble on clinging on to avoid the cash loss, but for others the setback meant he was shown the door. Among those on hand to offer advice on a sensible Ramsey exit strategy was @ocprodigy with the in-form Theo Walcott and Yohan Cabaye cited as ready-made replacments.

Even before Ramsey’s injury, the community was considering a dramatic ditching of his services. Earlier in the week TW asked whether now was the best time for Fantasy managers to cash in on Ramsey’s price rise and look elsewhere.

Those considering a downgrade to liberate funds could find some timely advice via a consideration of budget midfield options with Floydy_Floyd tipping Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling to prosper in 2014. PTC meanwhile has his eye on the assist potential of Barry Bannan as the Pulis-inspired Palace revival goes through the gears.

It wasn’t just gaps in midfield that were opening up over Christmas. Romelu Lukaku may have finally broken out of his dry spell with the winner over Southampton today but, having gone five starts without a goal before today’s fixture, there was plenty of fidgeting amongst his owners in the community. In the Lukaku debate , Marr pointed to form over fixtures, while SkyCell, perhaps wisely, gave the Belgian the next three outings to prove his worth. Maybe today’s goal has changed the landscape, although almost 100,000 shed his services before yesterday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Nice to Finally Michu gazed into 2014 to assess the best goalkeeper pairings on offer. His excellent post looks at the best placed pairs over the next ten Gameweeks, with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone and the Gunners Wojciech Szczesny among the standout options on offer.

Finally, JDoyles profiling of some of the FFS community “characters” hoovered up votes and raised smiles aplenty as Gameweek 19 drew to a close. Are you amongst the poster personality types in his breakdown?

The Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s FA Cup competition has been one of the community’s largest to date. Finally a winner has emerged with Fantasy Football Scout community moderator Ryan’s Tranmere Rovers beating Fantasy Kid’s Luton Town in a nail-biting conclusion. There was further joy amongst our moderator team, with Evs being crowned champion in FFS UEFA’s Premier League H2H competition.

HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, now has 19 teams within a rank of one million and seven in the top 250,000. With an overall rank of 70,106 Teltzham Hotspurs is in the lead.

Lukaku has stk NOR, I fancy him to get some points there.

He's the type of player that will deliver points if you just keep him and be patient, like yesterday's game or the Liverpool one.

      Ha!

I was just thinking about how Lukaku were a certain transfer out this GW before his goal
and now people are now back to keeping him and even considering captaining him in GW 21.

I'd say keep. Stoke is a fortress at home but they just concede 8 goals in 2 games so confidence is low and Lukaku just scored a goal and his next game against Norwich is probably the best for that week.

I cancelled my Lukaku to Negredo move.

Ok so if there is a player that annoys you the most fantasy-wise this year, either by owning or not owning him, who would it be? I know some of you will be screaming Coleman, Ramsey or our favourite Yaya.

While I'm pissed for not owning Mertesacker when I had the chance, nobody is more annoying to own/not owning than Rooney.

I actually had him earlier this season where he was picking up steam.

After he blanks on GW 7, I switched to Lukaku who was on fire when I had Rooney. Well of course, since I dumped him, Rooney went on to his impressive run of 4 double digits weeks in 5 GWs and Lukaku pretty much suck.

Also because of the extra money from Lukaku, I ditched Eriksen to Ozil instead of Ramsey. Not losing much there, but points are points.

I was also part of the massive Lukaku to Remy bandwagon punt on GW 12. We all know how Lukaku score that week. I wouldn't have been in that situation if I would've kept Rooney in the first place.

I also opt Negredo instead of Rooney when Aguero got injured. Rooney got another 2 double digit weeks. Although getting Negredo allows me to get Walcott a week earlier and not missed his 15 point hauls. So that eased the pain a bit.

Then when I had the choice to do replace the benched Negredo to either Dzeko (c) or Rooney (c) this week, I consolidate and choose the later. He's now injured and a doubt for next game. And Dzeko had a good game.

Geez Rooney. When will stop becoming Fellaini 2.0 and start giving me points.

Probably Aguero. I bought him early on in the season and captained him against a lowly team and he blanked. I went with Rooney thereafter who did really well, but Kun was killing it in the home games. I took a hit to get him in for SWA, getting rid of Özil in the process - Özil then went on a nice double-digit run whilst Kun struggled.

Sturridge as well. Did the hokey-kokey with him in the first 6 gameweeks. Never really rated him, but he started banging in the goals. So I bought him, he did nothing, then I sold him again, then he started banging in the goals again. Ad infinitum. Fecker.

I know them feels on your Aguero move. Getting him in and him doing bad is one thing, but when the guy you remove to get him scores brilliantly, that's just a kick in the nuts.

Woah woah woah. Ive had Rooney all season and have been hoping ( quietly ) that none of my mini league peepes would get him. Sounds strange because of the cost, but he's been my differential thus far this season. Rooney has a niggle ( 75% chance of playing )
So really, I cant see how HE annoys YOU. Really, its HIM who should have the grievance with YOU. After all, you got rid of him for a lesser player. He's in my team all season. Boom!

I had Suarez for a few good GWs as my differential in the league. Cut a 100 pts league from the top. 😉

But yeah that Rooney to Lukaku move in GW 8 has been a season defining moment - in a bad way.

Surely Podolski is going to start vs CArdiff right? Ozil out, Ramsey out, Rosicky 90 mins = just
Walcott Cazorla Giroud Podolski available for the attacking 4 with Wilshere and Arteta in the double pivot?
    Sure is tempting

*Note: Not as a replacement for Lukaku/Rooney/Suarez obviously. However if you have Dzeko/someone else in there could be brilliant

Also, surely he wont play both Arteta and Flamini for Cardiff at home right? which means wilshere in the pivot allowing those 4 to play upfront? a giroud rest making it even more likely(thinking about it.. i can afford giroud!)

      Could easily be;

      ------Flamini - Arteta
      Walcott-Wilshere-Cazorla
      -----------Giroud

After seeing how Wenger treated Walcott upon return you can't guarantee Podolski coming in after 1 cameo.

Arteta can be attacking, though I don't like Arteta/Flamini to be honest. Not saying that I think it will be the team but I wouldn't be surprised. Podolski is prone to injury so Wenger may ease him back.

I would def spend a -4 this week looking at your defense to get Koscienly on the boat. (great value @5.3).
Not sure about Sterling anymore. (RavMo--->Sterling was my initial plan for this week before the game). If you saw the game you'll get the feeling it's a high probability he might get rested. (Aspas or Moses might get a start IMO). The kid looked extremely tired. But I`ve been wrong before. Cheers. GL

I don't expect Davis to play, GW26-27 is a problem for Mannone but I'll deal with that when I come to it. Mannone > Marshall as a transfer could work by then.

Cardiff have been a bit pants though and every 0.1 counts. Having 4 big hitters in midfield makes it easier to fit in Aguero without losing the two big guns up front.

I'm now over 100 points behind ML leader for three reasons.. Coleman, Yaya, Mertesacker.

Is there really any point in getting them now? 😐

Catch him by looking ahead for double gameweeks

100 points is not a lot, rather keep up and slowly close the lead. A couple of different captain choices in your favour and you back in it

That too, but you also don't want to fall further behind by not getting players. I bet you wouldn't drop Suarez 😉 Anyways, it's not too bad. I reckon Silva will be better to have than Yaya.

Coleman and Mertesaker are the best goal scoring defenders this season. Coleman will continue to rack up bonus points, esp if Baines leaves for united...

I think at least get these two to keep up with your rival. You could probably get Walcott instead of Yaya, Hazard or Silva after suspension

Stick with Silva, Koscienly and look for the perfect differential. Slow, patient and steady. 100 points can be nothing if you play the perfect game from now on. ( dbl GW and Wcards will shake things up a little). 🙂 Good luck

Not the best transfers this week though I want to get rid of McAuley - done jack all since I got home eight weeks ago... I also have no playing keeper thanks to my fail Harper transfer.

To fill 1 x Keeper plus 1 x Defender I have only 9.5mil to spend.

    Harper > Mannone
    McAuley > Bardsley

    Giving me:

    Mannone (Lewis)
    Mertesacker Coleman Gabbidon Bardsley (Chester)
    Hazard Walcott Cabaye (JWP Silva)
    Rooney Negredo Suarez

It certainly seems worthwhile to hold the Jan wildcard as long as possible, with the number of key players set to return from injury. Aguero, Sturridge, Gerrard, Ozil, Ramsey, Benteke could all be in a wildcard draft.

Think welbeck is good though? I'd have 9.3 for a striker

Up to you. Welbeck is frustrating fantasywise. He could score 2 goals or he mightnt do a thing for 5 games straight

    Team for this week is

    Krul
    Ward Mert Zab Bards
    Wally Haz Barkley
    Roon Suarez Negrado

    Mcgregor Banan Mcauley Silva

Worth a hit to do Banan to Sterling/Ki?!

Hello. New to the site. Been reading posts about Koscielny but I have already brought in Sagna. In regards to a forward, I currently have Adebayor but think of Fletcher? Good choice?

I wouldn't think so, his playing time has really varied over the season

Welcome to the site Niz Super X1

Fletcher is asking for trouble imo.

I was think with the favourable fixtures Sland have Fletcher would have been a good punt. Borini has been starting lately but after Fletch scored this weekend maybe he will get the nod?

You could do worse than stick with Adebayor until the wildcard

The only issue I have with adebayor is he works hard but doesn't seem to get the goals. Plus Spurs away at Man Utd, I don't think he will do much.

        But you never know.

Hello folks. How's everyone doing? In the meantime, any shape up or fix? I intend to keep my bench as it is for the time being till the January wildcard becomes available. For now, I will look to chase up points as best as possible.

    Szczesny
    Coleman - Distin - Terry - Gabbidon
    Walcott (v) - Cabaye - Sterling
    Rooney - Suarez (c) - Negredo

    Harper - Morrison - Vlaar - Silva

    1 FT, £0.9m banked.

Might consider Nolan in the mid. Up against fulham this week, points to be had.

Looks okay but would be better with Hazard over there

I'm a little low on funds to make that happen, that would require not just one but multiple hits. Wildcard seems best to do that.
