Scout Scribbles – Van Persie Worry for Holland

Robin van Persie is set to miss out for Holland this evening. Cesc Fabregas withdraws from the Spain squad due to a hamstring problem, Asmir Begovic is a doubt for Bosnia, Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons picks up another hamstring injury and Gareth Barry is ruled out with ankle ligament damage for Everton.

Van Persie Concern for Dutch

The United striker has been ruled out of tonight’s friendly against Mexico after picking up a “minor injury”, according to Holland boss Guus Hiddink. Despite his failure to join training, the Holland camp are optimistic that Van Persie will be fit in time for Saturday’s showdown with Latvia.

The Scout Says: Whilst many had expected Louis van Gaal’s arrival to transform his compatriot’s Fantasy fortunes, Van Persie has failed to replicate the form which made him a must-have in seasons gone by. With Wayne Rooney shifted into a deeper role and the currently injured Radamel Falcao far from certain to start when fit, Van Persie has retained his manager’s faith up front but has produced little to justify a lofty 12.4 price tag, scoring only three times in 10 starts. Certainly, if he can recover in time, a trip to Arsenal’s porous defence before back-to-back home encounters with Hull and Stoke may yet afford Van Persie the chance to prosper, but with Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero racking up the goals in the premium price bracket, investment in the costly Dutchman holds no appeal. A possible absence for Van Persie could see Rooney shifted up top if Falcao remains absent, though, potentially allowing Juan Mata a central support role after the Spaniard emerged from the bench to score the winner against Palace.

Fabregas Withdraws From Spain Duties

The Chelsea playmaker has been ruled out of Spain’s upcoming fixtures against Belarus and Germany over the next few days. The Spain Football Federation confirmed that scans have revealed he has sustained a hamstring problem, going on to say:

“The MRI done this morning in the Sanitas Clinic in La Moraleja (Madrid) showed a clear improvement with respect to the one done by his club on Sunday. Although the MRI discards a hamstring tear, the player continues to have discomfort and the medical team considers that his involvement in the next games would not be advisable for his complete recovery.”

The Scout Says: As the most popular midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, any period of absence for Fabregas would have a significant knock-on effect. Since returning to the Premier League, his consistency has been unrivalled by any midfielder, with the Spaniard earning points in eight of the first 11 Gameweeks. Given that he’s now up to 9.8, though, many eyeing up the Chelsea midfield could well opt for the similarly priced Eden Hazard (10.0) – the Belgian sits only seven points behind his team-mate, yet is owned by just 16% of Fantasy managers. With Oscar, at 8.4, grabbing three goals, an assist and seven bonus points in the last six, though, there’s no shortage of Chelsea midfield alternatives to consider ahead of a very kind upcoming run of matches (WBA, sun, TOT, new, HUL, stk).

Begovic Hopeful of Quick Recovery

The Stoke number one has delayed joining up with the Bosnia squad ahead of the weekend clash with Israel after picking up a groin problem at the weekend. Begovic is optimistic, however, that he’ll be fit in time for Saturday’s encounter:

“I had to stay in Stoke for a check-up but I will join my Bosnia team mates (on Wednesday) and hopefully will be ready for (the match against Israel). I played through the pain after taking a knock in the groin in the first half against Tottenham and I will know more about my condition in a day or two, but there is a good chance I will be fit.”

The Scout Says: It’s been a slow start to the season for the Potters stopper so far. Hopes were high of defensive returns after a Gameweek 3 clean sheet away to City suggested an upturn in resilience but Begovic has managed just one more clean sheet since the Etihad clash – at home to Newcastle in Gameweek 6. With the likes of Marc Wilson offering a cheaper route into Mark Hughes’s backline, Begovic has since slipped in price to 4.9, and whilst an upcoming home clash with Burnley holds promise, his 7% ownership may be thinking of parting company thereafter, regardless of injury. Stoke face Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in five of the subsequent six, and given their form so far, defensive returns look highly unlikely for some time to come.

Aarons Sidelined Again for Magpies

Reports in the local press confirm the Newcastle winger is set to miss the next couple of league matches after limping out of training last week with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: Eased into the action by Alan Pardew, Aarons sprung onto our radars in Gameweek 3 after emerging from the bench to grab a goal and assist in just 24 minutes in a 3-3 draw against Palace. The youngster was then sidelined by a hamstring injury before returning to action last month, finding the net in a 2-0 Capital One Cup win at City to highlight his prodigious talents, but his absence, along with the likes of Gabriel Obertan, is likely to see Sammy Ameobi and Remy Cabella handed the flank roles as Pardew’s side go in search of a fifth straight win at home to QPR. Bearing in mind Cabella sets you back 7.2, the Frenchman will find it hard to attract Fantasy attention, though Ameobi, at 4.4, has grabbed a goal and assist in his last four appearances and has started the last two Gameweeks for the in-form Magpies.

Senderos Concern for Villa

The centre-half has reportedly picked up a calf complaint during training with the Swiss national squad and is set to miss the upcoming encounters against Lithuania and Poland.

The Scout Says: Frustratingly for Paul Lambert, Senderos has only just returned to action after picking up a thigh injury during the previous international break. The centre-half had started each of the first seven Gameweeks, but after missing three league matches, he returned to the bench away to West Ham as Paul Lambert retained Nathan Baker alongside Ron Vlaar in the goalless draw. Baker’s late withdrawal with a knee problem at Upton Park places further question marks over the Villa defence, with Ciaran Clark looking the obvious option should the pair be ruled out. A first clean sheet in seven attempts will boost confidence, and following a home clash with Southampton, Lambert’s side face Burnley, Palace, Leicester and West Brom in consecutive matches which may yet bring in the points.

Barry Ruled Out for Toffees

The Everton midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he sustained ankle ligament damage during the weekend draw at Sunderland. Barry was stretchered off early against the Black Cats and the Toffees official website have since revealed he is expected to be out “for weeks rather than months”.

The Scout Says: An ever-present for the Merseysiders in the league this term, losing Barry’s experience in the double-pivot will be a blow for Roberto Martinez. Everton have managed just three clean sheets this season but two of those have arrived in the last four Gameweeks, with the Toffees conceding only twice over that period, and the veteran’s absence could be detrimental to their recent upturn in resilience. Martinez handed Darron Gibson (4.3 in FPL) the chance to replace Barry, though the Toffees boss could also turn to Leon Osman – such a scenario could potentially lessen the competition for places out wide, given that the latter has started two of the last four on the flank.

With Di Maria getting criticism and Sanchez on fire I feel this is the perfect time to ask the question.

Who's the better signing and better player out of the two in your opinion?

i prefer sanchez. He lacks adm's class but he's such a machine. Gives everything, full of end product and grabs the game by the scruff of the neck. A true match winner. Reminds me a lot of suarez

I think they are both excellent signings.
Both have fabulous ability but I would rate Sanchez the better player as he looks a more natural goalscorer and his pure determination and willingness to work hard will provide him more goalscoring opportunities that he creates himself ( a bit like Suarez ).

Difficult to compare, the term "world-class" is a vague one, but I think they'd certainly both fall into that category. Di Maria is a wonderful player, but I think Sanchez is possibly the more important signing, for the steel he gives Arsenal, and the potential he has to drag them by himself. He is clearly someone used to winning, and someone who will not accept mediocrity. Whether he can bring other players round to that mindset remains to be seen.

2 of the league's best though.

One way to separate them could be "who would you rather have in your team" (real life, not FPL). I would rather have Sanchez.

Both good signings but Sanchez the better signing , even if they were the same price Sanchez would be better , bring price into it, Sanchez by a long long way , but both teams neglected other areas of their squads, so neither was good for the team

I disagree on the last point to an extent.

Let's be honest, just about everyone in Man United's midfield is average and they definitely needed more quality going forward, and Arsenal lack a real goal-scorer with hunger. Outside of Walcott there's not much else that you can expect goals in big games.

That said, they both neglected other areas of the squad as you said, but I refuse to believe Arsenal couldn't have signed a decent DM or CB in addition to Sanchez. 🙁

Thing is I'll be swapping Krul back to Foster in 3 weeks. Janmaat gets alot of bonus points and is a good attacking option. Also has some nice fixtures so maybe I can rotate with Wisdom. Trippier good fixtures but burnley don't score enough.

Really need help on this one if possible:

Have enough cash just to do Tadic to Downing and Clyne to Baines

But I could spread the cash to have Azpi and Jags instead of Baines and cheapies.

My thoughts are jags at least gets Baines CS points and fights for BAPs - I just have to live with the latters set-piece menace. I feel Chelsea will get the cleanies soon too.

      Opinions welcomed...

i'd save FT. and not transfer out mannone since you'll probably play krul anyway. I dont remember exactly but i think newcastle have a good fixture next.

And its always good to have 1FT readdy when someone could get injured during internationalbreak.

sooo. Assume for a sec fab is doubtful/injured come matchday, do you prefer fab to hazard or fab/pelle to chadli/costa -4.
Case for the former: costa on 4 cards. +4 points. I fancy pelle at villa.
      Case for the latter: costa

Is now the time to make the switch from ADM to Rooney?

Instead of ADM and budget striker (Austin/Sakho/Berahino etc) going for Rooney with a 4th mid in a similar price bracket (Downing/Chadli/Siggy/Barkley)

Rooney at 10.2m could be a real bargain and has goal-scoring pedigree.

Aguero and Costa take up two striker spots. I'd like my 3rd striker to be as reliable:

I want to either replace Chambers with a 5m defender who keeps clean sheets more regular OR I could replace Targett with a 4.1m defender to rotate with Wisdom and Chambers? my only worry is I'll pick Chambers alot over the other 2 and he'll do what Arsenal always do.

Out of curiosity I just had a look at the top 10 teams. Obviously, it's early days yet and this top 10 will hardly be the same come May but it made for some interesting stuff all the same. 9/10 had Pelle. With his good run now over it will be interesting to see which way they go next. A good few had Tadic. That explosive week must have shot them up the ranks. Another one to watch what they do.

But on the whole what struck me most is how ordinary their teams look. Plenty of Lukakus, Begovics thrown in. The world no.1 has about 5/6 players I wouldnt want in my team 😆 Pretty similar to all the template teams on FFS.

To state the obvious though, these guys have done so well and a lot must be said for good captaincy choices and benching.

Guess what to take from this is

      A) Everyone makes mistakes. Don't put yourself down too much
      B) Your season is not over. Aim high. These guys are beatable 😉

I would have made the move to Hazard myself had I been able to afford it without a hit. He is a great option, imo.

Problem is that people compare him with Suarez, but with Costa you always get the feeling that he is a bully. I wouldn't be surprised to see him booked in the next away game

It's interesting looking back at your transfer history page.

Which transfers have you guys done that have failed and which have paid off?

For me, Rooney and Ramsey to Pelle and Tadic paid off nicely, even for a -4. Hoping for the same this week with my sterling and pelle to Sanchez and Austin, but I guess it was nice before as both were injured so had no potential downside.

I seemed to have a bit of a merry go round with my 4.5 defender, starting with naughton, switching to kelly, before switching to shackell and now resting on chambers. Kelly and naughton were mistakes, but not too severe.

Wilson > Chambers before his 18 pointer, Morono > Baines before his 15 points, and Ramsey > Tadic before his 23 were extremely jammy moves that paid off handsomely for me. Outside of that they've been pretty damn average.

Moreno Fab > Baines Tadic just before B's run and T's 23 pointer ,
Costa > Berahino 3 weeks ago , C didn't play and B scored a pen, the following week it enabled Siggy Sterling > Sanchez Hazard, captained Haz, had a amazing run but now I need Costa back, took a 8 hit shipped all my Saints for Costa back basically , will come back in 2 weeks if it was good or bad lol

          Naylor > Chambers.
          Hazard > Tadic.
          Rooney > Aguero.
          Terry > Baines.

My worst transfer my far is getting Adebayor for Jovetic and then Welbeck for Adebayor, both times overlooking Pelle even though everyone on here was recommending him before he exploded. 🙁

I think he will be fine physically, the only worry is that Mourinho might genuinely give him his first "rest" of the season.
          80% chance he'll play I reckon.

80% is good enough for me!

Didn't Fabre fly to Marid for assessed by the Spain team? He was found unfit

They found no hamstring tear in the MRI. Just that he felt discomfort.

It would be a bit much to give him a rest after a two week break. Plenty of other fixtures he can get a breather in I feel. Like if he gets a 5th yellow 😆

Best 3.9 Def? S.Taylor or Yun? Any other options?

Yun. S.Taylor is much more doubtful for a starting spot.

Those are the only two options - hard to tell if either really nailed on long term - hopefully you will bench them most weeks

You want a little tip on how I play this game even if it sounds really obvious and kinda boring? Just look at who is in the top points scorers for defenders, midfielders, strikers etc and slowly bring them into your team. I currently have eight of the "dream team" players and sit at 4k

You would be amazed at how consistent they are, they are at the top or near the top for a reason. It's why I don't understand people hyping up Hazard, hasn't really done a lot so far has he?

Form is so important in FPL. Class doesn't matter at all.

Ah, so that's how you do it? Cheers. Playing 6 years now, if only I'd seen this earlier..

It's just how I like to play, sounds obvious and all that but I see a few people asking if they should bring in suspect picks, doesn't make sense to me

Getting in a player before he goes on a hot streak is also part of the game.

For sure, it means I am mostly a week behind a player exploding but nothing worse than having a good prospect deliver a load of blanks

Here is how I make my decisions when it comes to players. (In order of preference:)

          -Player form
          -Key Stats
          -Team form
          -Fixtures
          -Set pieces
          -Player quality

All important areas to look at for sure. I am looking at Chadli. I imagine he doesn't have the greatest underlying stats and his team are a bit poor but he keeps on scoring goals which is the most important thing.

He is performing very well in the key stats. But I reckon,he's been a bit lucky to score so many goals. Should be more of an assist threat, imo.
