The Community Round Up

There’s no surprise to see that Sergio Aguero’s knee injury dominated discussion this week as the community struggled to come to terms with his absence and the array of replacements on offer. Our community articles offered some cheap, differential alternatives, while our hot topics proved to be a mine of information on how best to cope with the fall out from his absence. We look back on all this and examine how our members have been beavering away and constructing statistical tables to help choose Aguero replacements plus, as ever, we catch up on the latest in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster’s latest trio of differentials featured some of the game’s most injury prone players for Gameweek 16. Let’s hope they can keep off the treatment table before the weekend kick offs.

Meanwhile there was some cause for celebration this week as Gameweek 15’s Scout Picks Community champion Kurran managed to beat one out of three of the Scouts. Dusan Citizen, who won this week’s search for a Community Champion to represent you in this week’s Scout Picks, will be hoping for similar success.

Congratulations were also in order for 3rdTurd, who scooped November’s best Community Article prize and a £25 Amazon voucher for his detailed look at clean sheets over the last decade.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

There was no denying this week’s hottest topic among the community, with Sergio Aguero’s injury leaving Fantasy managers without this season’s star player and an array of options. Priced at £12.6m in the Fantasy Premier League game, his departure from our teams will also leave many with a large amount of spare change. In our discussion on what to do with the Aguero millions, Just a Hat was among those looking to beef up his defence with Leighton Baines and Joe Hart on his wishlist.

Aguero’s departure also means that the template team is well and truly ripped up, with a wide array of attacking trios set to line up for Gameweek 16 according to Heels over Head’s look at the post-Aguero forward lines.

Midfield is another area that many of the community are looking to address with their spare Aguero money. Yaya Toure is top of a number of shopping lists after scoring three double-digit FPL hauls in the last four Gameweeks. The Tinkerman believes we are returning to the golden era of 2013 when Toure ruled our midfields.

Roscola urges Toure suitors to be cautious, though. His research shows that the Ivorian’s strong form may have been due in part to David Silva’s absence. With the Spaniard returning from injury, history suggests Toure’s returns could slip.

Daifra Sakho has emerged as one of a number of key targets to replace Aguero, with Accounting on Chris putting forward a compelling argument for drafting in the West Ham striker.

Sakho also features in Rickardinho’s nuts and bolts look at the array of Aguero replacements and there was further support offered in our hot topic on Aguero exit strategies.

With Crystal Palace, Burnley and Sunderland at home in the next five Gameweeks, City coverage looks crucial – even if they are without their influential striker. To help, Punty penned this handy guide to gaining team coverage, while Innsie has some important news regarding the bonus potential of Manchester City defenders.

The Members’ Tables

Replacing Aguero also dominated our Members’ Tables this week. Vougiedipond produced this look at how the key alternatives fared over the last six Gameweeks, while Sverdet’s table on Aguero replacements looks at more immediate statistics, covering the last four Gameweeks.

The Thinktank has been looking at how Manchester City players performed last season to offer further thoughts about their prospects this season.

Elsewhere in our Members Tables, Giggs Boson drafted this look at defender goal threat. Filter by the last six Gameweeks and one or two Manchester City players emerge as good options.

I also assessed some backline options this week but instead looking for the worst defences at conceding set plays.

Predicting future returns was the aim of Jcw1989’s table this week, looking back on players’ last four matches to find those who have the potential to do better. My goals imminent table, looking at those with a high number of goal attempts but no more than one goal over the last four Gameweeks, also aims to predict future form. Its new leader will please fans of one London club in particular.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Aguero’s injury should transform Zep’s Dead Team Challenge, where managers keep the same team all season. Here are the latest leaders among his competing ghost ships.

Tinkerman once again clings onto the lead in the FFScout moderators and contributors league, although second placed Athletico Timbo has narrowed the gap to just ten points.

@Ricky, I was surprised by those FFF numbers too. Let's say Hazard was on 90% and so wasn't expected to rise tonight but eventually did - they count that as 90% Accurate rather than getting 1 wrong. Helps inflate the numbers..

Why do people do this ...

Today I asked Reid or Tomkins (I had 5m to spens so asked these 2 for a reason)
I got answers mostly of "Creswell" .... Who is 5.5

Someone above asked which City defender (presumably because they have a defender to get rid of for some reason such as say, Chambers maybe?)

But an answer to it was "Hart" ... Now my guess is he asked defender as his keepers are fine and his defenders arent. He even said "Cant afford Zab" so clearly, there is a defender in mind who is being sold. Not a keeper.

It seems a common thing these day.
Do people not give limited options in their questions for a reason?

Sometimes to it's nice to give them another option thinking outside the box if they haven't covered it, but I agree a lot of people don't read the question being asked and quite annoying when you've already given some guidelines.

I asked a question the other day about Pozo, wondering if he could impact Dzeko. I specifically said I wasn't thinking of getting him just worried about him taking Dzekos minutes. The only replies I got were 'Don't get Pozo" 😆

Valid point, but I can see offerin a keeper as an alternative. Mentionin Zab does not clearly exclude a desire for all forms of City defensive cover, so it is a sincere recommendation.

I'm actually guilty of abit of this myself. Often I'll do like in that cresswell example simply because i don't like either of the first two and instead of saying neither, i say cresswell to show that that is the only guy in that defense i'd want... makes sense to me at least.

certain players are deemed special cases every season and as such, wrapped in cotton wool by FPL and the normal price change rules DO NOT apply to them.

Chambers is obviously one of them

Doesn't make him a good pick anymore though. Rotation risk, and arsenal don't look like CS machines yet. He'll still get sold by loads even if his price is untouched

Hutton is an uber efficient version of Chambers, all for 0.7 cheaper.

Seriously, go do a H2H comparison and check the CS count. Epic

I have Hutton and it's not really comparable. Hutton is nailed on in a weaker team. Chambers is not nailed on in a better side, who are performing poorly. I actually want to get rid but can wait a while now.

So physios in the house, I have a question for you.

I just got back from playing indoor. My first involvement included a challenge that resulted in taking a knee to the quad halfway up the quad directly above my knee. Thinking it's a strained quad or a contusion. Despite playing the whole game, albeit my explosiveness was shot, I now carry a slight limp. Pain to the touch, etc. How long do we suppose something like this takes to heal? I know that quad strains come in different degrees of severity. Any advice welcome. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks man, it's good to hear some optimism. It could be nothing or could be a 6 week injury or niggle that carries on and is hard to get rid of. Why do I even post something like this on here. amateur hour geesh

😆 Take it from me, if it was a 6-weeker you'd probably be in little doubt as to the severity of the injury. If you do the rehab right in the first few days after the injury then it won't turn into a long term niggle.

Not exactly a physio but I've had enough injuries in my time to know a thing or two - currently working my way back from a grade 3 aponeurotic tear of the hamstring y'know 😉 .

If it's just an impact then a quad strain is unlikely - they're generally caused by overstretching or sudden, explosive movements like kicking a ball or sprinting. Did you feel a pop or a twang in the muscle when it happened? Does it hurt to stretch? If the answer to both of those questions is no then it's probably not a strain.

What's most likely is it's just a dead leg or bruising. The treatment for all of those sorts of injuries is the same - the RICE Protocol: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Strap up the area, stick an ice pack on for 20 minutes every couple of hours, get off your feet and raise your leg up on some pillows. See how it feels after a couple of days of doing that.

Really helpful. Thanks. It does hurt to stretch though, but an impact of two players running in opposite directions to challenge for the ball would suggest a dead leg I suppose. Ice tray is almost frozen haha

No worries. Yeah, the muscle is probably quite tender at the moment so some pain on stretching or use is not entirely surprising. Look on the bright side, you have an excuse to put your feet up and watch the footy all day! 😉

Easiest way to tell is by the amount of swelling. Always starts to hurt after the game when your body cools. Take an antinflammatory (like ibuprofen or naproxen) not sure about the trademark names in your country. Ice for 20 mins, 20 mins heating pad, 20 mins rest. Reevaluate in 7 days. If you are still limping then go to the doctor but you might want to make an appt ahead of time.

        Thoughts on Sterling?

I've got 9.6 for a midfielder and my options include Sterling/Eriksen/Mirallas/Silva/Fabregas

I can upgrade my defence with most of the options, but I don't think it needs it. (Baines, Naylor, Dummett, Hutton, Wisdom)

I'm leaning towards Fabregas as I only have Hazard and no Costa. Plus he's consistent.

Ah I see, then Silva or Eriksen imo
Silva may need a week or two to get back up to speed.

I like the idea of Sterling but Liverpool are shocking at the minute. Not touching them til they show some form. Silva is the man. At 8.8 he could be a steal. ADM might be worth a look now he's gone down in price too.

Silva and FPL don't go hand-in-hand, though. That's the problem with him.

I don't trust spurs. The annoying thing is they will score and some point and every week I'll be kicking myself. Why didnt I get Kane? Why didn't I get Eriksen? Why did I ditch Chadil? lol

Silva in the hole is a different kind of beast though. Wait and see though. If in doubt, Fabregas isnt a bad option either. So consistent.

          Certainly are.

          I'd captain Hazard, though.

Hmmm, my gut is telling me to cap the ogre for some reason. Food for thought. Cheers.

Hmmm. Perhaps the smarter play with pens. Sanchez also really tempting. Cheers.

              Better form.
Beast at home (all his doubledigit hauls at Stamford Bridge)

I can picture Dawson/Chester being overly physical with Costa.
Can you picture any Hull defenders slowing Haz down? Prob not.

He was also rested this week and Costa played 90min midweek.

Really?? Didn't think it was possible. I'm leaving it on Haz but a rested Sanchez will always tempt me.

Teams been ravaged. Took Kun out and put Costa in already and have Kane and Rooney up top.

Midfield -Ramsey out, Cork out, Sanchez Siggy and Hazard fit.

Def -Chambers out, S Taylor out, Moore, Dummett and Taylor in.

Courtois out and a keeper that doesnt play as sub.

Need a hit to get 10 men on tbe pitch, 8 points for 11.

Thinking Ramsey out Nasri/Silva/Yaya/Oscar in. Any other ideas?

How likely is it that all of

        Chelsea
        Southampton
        Man City
        Arsenal

        win tomorrow?

Have a pretty big accy in progress, and these are the last 4 teams I need

0,9*0,8*0,9*0,7 = around 50% but many will disagree the chances are that high.

Chelsea and City will almost certainly win I feel. Southampton should win but Arsenal are dodgy now they have no real centreback and Newcastle seem to have some form.

        a) aguero to Costa
        Or
        B) aguero to sahko and elhamedi too yaya for -4.

Which one? If I go for b, I can still do Rooney to Costa next week if need be.

If you want costa you want him for hull at home i would say. If you can play 11 no real need to take the hit

Has improved but I still went with Nasri. Could easily backfire though.
