The Community Round Up

With the launch of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game now imminent, the community has been busy predicting prices and guessing which players will propel them to mini-league glory next season. Our hot topic posters also talk tactics, real life football skills and team names, while our Members have been busy delving into the underlying statistics of last year’s best midfielders and forwards. Finally, we issue a call for those organising mini-leagues next season to contact us and find out who finished Euro 2016 on top.

The Hottest Topics

On Thursday Hazardous Conte broke the news that the Fantasy Premier League game launch is just days away and is set to launch on the week beginning Monday July 18.

Predicting who will be 2016/17’s top performers has been a popular pastime while the community awaits. Spineless Weasel got the crystal ball gazing started with a look at the players who should excel, while we also listed at those we have high hopes for and those moving Premier League teams who could be set for an upturn in fortunes.

United fan wondered just how successfully this year’s batch of newcomers, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will settle. Pompeyfan has high hopes for Spurs new recruit Vincent Janssen, while Trigg urges investment in newly promoted Middlesbrough’s defensive assets.

Finding next season’s successful premium defenders, who offer points returns at both ends of the pitch, emerged as a key task for Niel and Lateriser12 looked at which of Manchester’s two new managers, Jose Mourinho or Pep Guidiola are set for bragging rights at the end of next season.

The search for next season’s best goalkeepers was a top issue for Tadic is the new Eriksen to consider, while we also took a look at West Ham and Crystal Palace’s chances of success, after their markedly different 2015/16 campaign.

Meanwhile, FPL Price prediction also dominated discussion as Andy85wsm canvassed your views on the cost of midfielders and forwards.

Pre-season form can be a good indicator of potential success, but as Disable’s hot topic points out caution is needed in placing too much emphasis on these friendlies.

FPL  strategies also came under the microscope, with Jim Jam assessing the merits of opting for a triple defensive rotation policy that makes best use of budget friendly players. Meanwhile, weaknesses in Fantasy management and how to correct them were AK’s key consideration as he prepares for the new campaign.

Getting the right strategy in place for double Gameweeks is also crucial to FPL success. Jarvish has already started looking ahead to next season’s potential blanks and doubles.

Elsewhere, Sutt456 ran the rule over the player list for the Daily Telegraph Fantasy game, which launched this week, while Lateriser12 asked where our community’s real life football talents lie.

Finally, no Fantasy Football preparation is complete without a good team name. Dr Kenneth Noisewater took time to find out what some of the community’s best and most well crafted team names will be next season.

The Members Tables

Winwoodfc has been looking at the per minute statistics of midfielders last season, meanwhile Bowstring92, has contructed a pair of tables looking at 2015/16’s best midfielders and forwards.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

We were delighted to find out that one of our community, DucksFly2gether, won the official Uefa game for Euro 2016. We also caught up with the others who did well in this competition, including Milanista, who claimed top spot in our league, while Andy85wsm emerged as champion of the FFScout moderators and contributors league.

Looking ahead to the FPL launch Az has already started looking for recruits to join his cash leagues.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

      1. Wilshere Knowledge
        • 10 Years

Best case scenario: A reinstating of a different government.
Likely outcome: Military dictatorship, civil war, fractured country. This would be of great service to ISIS for one thing.

But the Coup is failing right now. Which means a stronger dictatorial hold for Erdogan, reduced freedoms, further transition into an Islamist state.

No good outcome, but dictators in control better for Europe.

Here my thoughts on defence. Most of the rotations will not produce cs's so I'm going 1 premium & 2 sets of rotations being Leic/Midd & Soton/Swan.
My gk rotation will be Burn/Wba

      Foster, Heaton
      Azpi, Simpson, Ayala, Bertrand, Fernandez

If Ayala still injured I will either use Friend or go Valdes to gk for Foster & bring in Dawson/Brunt for Ayala

My m/f = KDB, Siggy, Tadic, Townsend, Grugic
My fwds = Aguero, Zlatan, Gray.

Of course this is probably over budget so may have to downgrade Zlatan.

Rotations never work out. Nobody ever brags on the rotation masterpieces, because there are none.

        1)
Play a 3-4-3, with 2 ubers... rotate them, if you need to.

        2)
        Never look back.

Grujic looked fantastic against Fleetwood. Admittedly it was Fleetwood but a promising start. I just do not know if he'll get regular time. Of course there will always be the option of George Boyd as a cheap 5th in MF.

Looks like Kante will be off, the first rat to leave the ship. He goes and others will follow, some would not have wanted to be the first to break up Leicesters winning team. Next it will be Mahrez, Vardy will be left wishing he had made a move to Arsenal instead of signong a new contract

I think Mendy will do right by them, maybe a class below Kante, but can't fault him yet. Musa's also a promising prospect & if they can make some good business off that Mahrez money (presumably), they could definitely still be a contender in that top 6.

Still a pity that so many of these teams (in Europe) that were underdogs or that aren't traditional top CL clubs, make it to the CL after a remarkable season. Then they sell most of their top talent in the summer window, & because of that they end up being underwhelming in the group stages. Happens time after time, & it robs us of seeing the true potential these teams had in the top echelons of football (not to mention a disappointing representative of their respective league).

C'est la vie, I guess. Hope Leicester put in a good pre-season & perform admirably in spite of these (presumable) mishaps in the CL.

I think we could see the Chelsea effect in full flow as well. The were riding a wave of confidence and euphoria and that turns average footballers into determined world beaters. That won't be there this season and the belief won't be the same. Losing guys like Kante will certainly knock their confidence.

Sort of a two pronged idea here. When I mean the Chelsea effect I mean, 'job done'. Complacency sets in and it will be hard to start again.

Don't think the "Chelsea effect" can apply to Leicester in any shape or form. Nobody even expects them to ever come close to matching last season again.

Indeed. And worst still, Leicester themselves don't believe they can do it again. Hence why all their best players want to leave.

Which team gives him the best chance of silverware next season? Which team gives him the better long-term chance of CL success?

Leicester will make a £24m profit because of Kante's stellar performances in the one season he was there. He was also instrumental in giving them an unbelievable PL title. They can hardly complain.

It is just another example of how the ruling elite maintain power. Chelsea will take back the power from the upstart Leicester team by a process of divide and rule. Leicester are champions and in the champions league, Chelsea are not, yet still Kante will go running.
Why couldnt Leicester become a top Four team like/instead of Chelsea?

I think that's overly romantic. Kante has been 1 season at Leicester and given his all. He's 25 and on the edge of the French team. Chelsea are seen as one of the top 6 or 8 European clubs and are able to offer him £150k per week. He gets to play alongside Fabregas, Hazard, Batshuayi, Zouma. It's a dream move for him really.

Similarly, if Real Madrid offered £100m for Hazard and he wanted to go I wouldn't blame him. RM are a bigger club than Chelsea are.

I'm determined to go for the value players this season. I missed a few obvious options at the start of last season and its these guys that rapidly rise in price if they get a good start. If that means I end up with 3 or 4 5m defenders then so be it.

      1. Van Klinkert Delarosa

Who are these obvious options you talking about?

On top of my head; it was just Yaya, Ozil and Vardy.

Shaw, Bellerin, Toby, Clyne, Cedric come to mind in the good value defender group at the start of last season. I think there were a few more as well. Mahrez, Ozil and Vardy in attack. I'm probably missing a few others I forget now.

At the end of the day its spotting guys who you think FPL undervalued and jumping on those wagons at the start, particularly if fixtures look decent.

Unless Chelsea goes for a complete overhaul of players 4-2-4 looks on the cards. Bat and Costa up top with haz and willian wide. I'm probably most intrigued by conte of the new managers.

His teams tend to play a flexible style.3-5-2 is the formation of choice, where the midfield tends to dominate. His sides are normally strong at the back, and Juventus won the Italian league conceding only Twenty goals under his stewardship.

          • 14 Years

He is actually quite flexible with formations. At juve he used different variations of 433 and 442 (424) before settling into what has become his pet formation in recent seasons the 352 (334)
He will almost certainly play two strikers at Chelsea but the personell does not suit the 334 from juve and Italy at all. Nobody capable of the deep playmaker role. Willian or cuadrado suit the right wing spot but nobody suited to the left and most importantly best player hazard cant fit in anywhere in those tactics. Hence why I expect he'll go with another of his faves the 424.
Yeah one thing you can count on is a very strong emphasis on defence.

Not to mention the distinct lack of ball playing CB's. BBC were vital to the attacking build up for juve and italy with long balls to the forwards and interplay with the deep playmaker
