The FFS Cup – Sponsored by FanDuel – Third Round Draw

This evening we reveal the managers who have made it through to the third round of the 13th instalment of our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition.

For this latest contest there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

Last year’s winner I Casillas Winning’s score of 55 saw him overcome Tufs to set up a round three clash with Allezlechef. Just 10,000 places separates this pair in the overall rankings.

Gribude is another former cup holder to make it through. He beat Allgonepozzo in round two and faces Cok3y5murf next.

Ex-champ MCH also progresses, after seeing off Shem Bayley. He takes on community regular Rhinos in round three.

Sadly, the second round marked the end of the road for another former winner, Ninja Fit Saints, who was beaten 70-49 by Jurgen.

The highest scoring manager of the round and recipient of a £30 FanDuel credit was DaJoeyNdo Show, whose sensational score of 95 left Stoorey’s tally of 40 for dust and saw him leap from 346,603rd in the overall rankings to 57,443rd.

Teguh D Puncak, who he faces next, is unlikely to be worried though as he sits more than 50,000 places higher within the top 5,000.

The four next high scoring managers, who all receive a £10 FanDuel credit, were Captainjpd, Delt_eple, DJDave1979 and Dogba.

Andy85wsm, the competition’s only Scoutcast representative to make it past the first round, marches on. He beat Lardy to set up a third round tie with Anuliz.

Two other members of our moderator and contributor team also make it through. Greenwindmill will face Archie, while Stilicho squares up to lowlifegimpe in round three.

Other notable match ups in the next round include Lateriser12’s encounter with The TinMan, Parm’s tie with TommyJ and What the Fans Say community article writer Bolivian Seaman’s clash with Al Fresco.

The manager to draw the short straw in round three is 433,854 ranked Malvern Angells. He faces Dempele, who at 177th is the highest placed manager remaining in the tournament.

The second round results can be found via this link, while the full third round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those still involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

But based on your logic Matic is a fantastic option. 5 assists in last 7 games

based on my logic as mention above, this game is about clean sheets, assist, goals and points .. if you want to choose Matic because of his assist go ahead, I prefer to choose players based on total points.

Matty Phillips the best option in the game?

United are one of the top creative teams in the PL (#3 chances created last 4 matches, #4 all season)
United have conceded the fourth fewest shots in the box all season and fewest in last 4 matches

Wow, sorry I missed a huge discussion from my post -- just back from dinner.

In defense of the Pogba punt:
--his stats lately have been good, the equal of Mata
--his FPL form is actually decent, 5.0
--super differential with that low ownership

But to respond directly to the wise mon Confucius, I have rarely had a rank this high before the holiday fixtures, so instead of going completely template and solidifying my position, I'm taking a risk to capitalize on a decent start so I can where it can take me. Go ahead and chase already earned FPL points, I'm going to go my own way.

Yet to see anything from him in this mourinho system to turn my head from an fpl perspective.

.......... because Cazorla was on the field. Giroud isn't first team at the moment so that means it is Sanchez. He wants him to be a striker. He can hardly turn round and say "I don't trust you to be able to score a one-on-one goal with the keeper"

Not 100% but pretty sure. The last time Sanchez took a penalty, Wenger was quite surprised and came out and said that these 3 were ahead in the pecking order. I'm not 100% sure though.

Anyone think Coutinho will drop in price a fourth time? He's at minus 76% on fplstatistics. I know everyone says there's a rule a player can't drop more than three times in a week but no-one has ever linked to the rule. It's just never happened before. This week will prove whether it's a rule I guess.

How did Martial and Mkhi actually look tonight? Despite the 2 Goals and 2 assists respectively, did either/both look like they've played their way into Mourinho's first team?

Rashford going through a bit of a dip in form that's all like Martial until tonight.. Rashford will come good again can't forget what a sensation he has been since last season and still a kid.. Lingard offers a decent option from the bench..

Yes i would have thought so

Rashford shouldnt be playing wide though, he should be challenging Ibra ready for next season. Agreed lingard is a good player, I just think he's clearly behind martial and Mkhi in quality

Rashford is a centre forward for sure but can be devastating in the wide areas too.. really has an all round game but like i said just in a bit of a dip in form right now.. Lingard isn't anywhere near the level of those lads but is a very decent player

Rashford isn't a winger..it's not really dip in form, he's just being played OOP

Not sure i agree entirely.. he may be a more natural centre forward but has been brilliant in wider positions for us in the past taking on full backs committing them and cutting inside.. just not on the top of his game right now

Thing I don't get about Rashford is, he was great last year as a striker. He should be rotated with Ibra and not asked to play out wide.

Ibra is going to be the go to CF under Jose and it's hard to argue against.. rather than Rashford rotting on the bench he's been asked to play wider a position he is more than capable of being effective in..

big hitters are hitting this season, you'll always miss out on one or two

but you should find yourself a couch to hide behind as well then too 😉 I wouldn't bet against Spurs in home matches vs Swansea, Hull and Burnley (especially a Spurs who are out of the EFL and CL and would do well to tank the last game and miss out on EL as well)

I'm a big fan of the scoutcast, but does anyone else find it frustrating that they rarely give a straight yes-or-no answer to the community questions.

Jonty brilliantly spotted the prevailing theme in the community questions: does a lower priced player compensate for the more expensive teammate?

Can Pedro allow you to go Hazard-less?
Can Fer allow you to go Siggy-less?
And the big one ... can Walcott allow you to go Sanchez-less?

Does anyone feel like we got a straight answer to these big questions last night? I still don't know what to do.

The guys kind of go off on a tangent and make some great points, but we never really get a firm answer to the question ... and before you know it we have to move onto the next question.

I think this problem is easily fixed ... ask the scoutcast guys to begin their answers with a simple "yes or no".

Jonty sometimes says "I just want to go back to the original question because we never really answered it" but most of the time we're left hanging.

I think an already great show would be made brilliant if Jonty or whoever could be a bit more Paxman and make sure every question gets some kind of decision.

Yes, some decisions will leave the scoutcast guys with egg on their face, but people will understand and they will Respect the panel for coming down on one side of the fence or the other.

A lot of the time there is no definitive answer they are there to bounce ideas off each other and discuss the questions posed by the community.. If we knew all the answers there would be no need for a scoutcast at all

Big ones like "can Walcott compensate for Sanchez" ... the people are crying out for a firm answer. It's criminal that the scoutcast left that one up in the air. All it needed was a quick round robin and a yes or no answer from each.

Walcott offers pretty good value at his price range but you would think Alexis would blow him away in terms of points but for more money.. make your own mind up what you would do with the extra money saved and then ask yourself the question

I'm not asking the guys to be mystic meg. I think you're missing my point.

Most of the time, the guys have a straight answer to the question. They just never get round to stating it.

They debate, discuss and look at it from other angles ... and then at the end forget to say where they stand. It just needs someone to pin them down and get their answer on record.

Ah right you may have a point there to an extent but tbf if we have the scouts nailing there colours to the mast and declaring a move or a player an absolute stonewall certainty for example to put your mind at rest then he flops.. no doubt you will have another essay going ballistic at how the experts told you to go out and do this and all you got was a blank and a red arrow lol

Ha. I personally wouldn't do that.

All I'm really saying is "don't forget to state where you stand on things".

If they don't have the answer, then fine. But a lot of the time they do and they never quite get round to saying it because they digress.

It just needs someone to be tad disciplined, maybe do a quick follow up and get the answers on record when the guys have made a decision.

They're there to assist n give opinions, not sure they want to say yes definitely do this or that.

There will be a certain element of folk who will blame the scoutcast when things don't go there way, and get the hump.

I took from other night that walcott wouldn't keep pace w Sanchez, but big price difference so keep if have. His stats are way down though, so don't buy observe for now.

I've already brought in siggy last week from scoutcast advice n did excellent! Kane this week for a hit as captain.

Great point. But these guys are the experts. They should be able to come to the correct decision, on balance. Or not. Even if you end up being wrong, at least make it clear where you stand.

I think a lot if the time the guys do have a position and a solid point of view, they just never get round to stating their conclusion out loud.

They aren't experts though, they're just fpl players like u and i. Being on the scoutcast, or being involved in the running of a site doesn't make them experts does it? They're just fortunate enough to be in that position of authority. But you should lower your demands/expectations. And just think of them as people with a strong passion for fpl just like u. They can only give their opinions, right or wrong.

That's my point. Sometimes they forget to make clear what their opinion is because the discussion gets away from them.

They have an opinion - they are (through no fault of their own) just forgetting to state it out loud.

A simple tweak to the format will fix this.

            Does that make sense?

I know this sounds like an attack, but it's not. I think most people on here know I love the scoutcast.

I know I have been defending these guys a lot lately, but I have to say I think you are being a bit hard on them.

First of all I think they are answering a decent amount of the questions pretty clearly. But... Of course they can't/won't give a yes or no answer to every questions because 1) Usually these questions can't be answered straight without taking 10 other questions into account. You can't answer if Theo can "cover" for Sanchez without discussing each of those player's stats, what you can use the funds for, if other premium players are better to invest in etc. etc. etc. 2) The guys are getting a lot of stick no matter what they do. If they answer questions yes/no people will blame them for not taking every aspect of the questions into consideration. Or even blame them for giving the wrong advice... If they are answering questions "vaguely", people will blame them for that. 3) The Scoutcast, as I see it, isn't meant to be some godly guidebook with clear cut guidelines or directions on how to manage your team. It is meant as a discussion between passionate FPL managers trying to give sense of community along with decent general tips/views on what's going on in the FPL world. I am watching the scoutcast because I enjoy the banter and comradely just as much as I watch it for the actual help on my team. They are not oracles... Just look at their ORs from time to time 😉 Regular guys with families, jobs and whatnot doing a huge amount of work for this community and to keep it running.

I am not saying that you/we can't give suggestions on how to improve the scoutcast/articles/site, but I still think we have to stop holding them to these unrealistic standards.

I totally get that and I am coming at this as one of the biggest fans of the scoutcast. It really is one of the highlights of my week.

What is annoying me is this:

        1) A huge question like "Walcott or Sanchez" deserves a conclusion - just take an educated guess with lots of caveats and pick a side. If it's wrong, we will understand.

        2) Most of the time the guys do pick a side ... they just never state it clearly because the discussion gets away from them.

Point 2 above is the biggest annoyance for me and the most easily fixed. It just needs the original question to be briefly repeated before moving onto the next question.

Easier to look at their FPL team. I have Sanchez and hope he does a lot better than Walcott to make up for the money I don't have in defence. If the answer was Walcott, then more people would have Walcott.

I kind of understand what you are saying. But isn't the fact that XX on the scoutcast has gone with Theo instead of Sanchez an indication that this person believes Theo to be better value?

I for one think they are very good at trying to relate to questions that don't necessarily are "relevant" to them, which is why I believe their answers can sometimes become a bit "vague" ... Also because most questions, as I mentioned, isn't possible to answer with a straight yes/no answer.

        Spot on.

I figured I'll weigh in here though I don't listen to the Scoutcast, I am a community member who is sometimes active in certain weeks/months. I ran a FPL blog for over 5 years (Never Captain Nicky Butt, RIP, 2008-2013). What Mark and the FFScout team have done has set the bar for FPL analysis worldwide, and as Jackyboy says they are presenting information that is up to you to consider and make the final decision.

I agree with you and perhaps I'm wording it poorly.

I just feel like sometimes the guys have a firm point of view but, for one reason of another, don't state it on the show.

All it needs is a Jonty or someone to say at the end of each question: "So are we all agreed that player X is a better option than player Y"

If there is uncertainty that player X is better than player Y then that's fine. No problem.

But sometimes they will think X is better than Y but never get round to articulating it.

It's just a simple oversight that could be fixed by a tweak to the format.

When X is agreed by all 3/4 on the scoutcast to be better than Y, it's pretty obvious. If there is a split then you don't get the same reaction. It's like asking Alonso or Azpi, chances are Alonso will be the pick for all atm and obvious.

I think you after something that no sensible pundit would give, because it cant be given in alot of cases. Sometimes there are clear answers, and sometimes there are not. You can't answer whether Theo is worth 3 ish less points than Sanchez, because we don't how the extra money will be spent. Sanchez will outscore Theo, but maybe the money will allow for Alonso and Kosc, who will outscore the respective options at a similar price. There is no a definitive answer.

Why do you need an answer? Why can't you take opinions and make your own decision? Why even play the game if you want someone else to give you the answer?

It would be wrong to talk of certainty about a highly subjective point that obviously splits the speakers and many on here.

You talk a lot of sense and I agree. I fear I've come across as a nutter who doesn't like the scoutcast when nothing could be further than the truth.

All I was trying to say is that sometimes there is certainty from the guys but they forget to make it be known and the audience is left wondering and not quite sure.

Like on Question Time. Dimbleby repeats the audience members question to get an answer. Something like that would fix the problem. It's more of an oversight than anything else.

I love getting feedback like this. Worst thing is getting ignored as a journalist.

Agree with many points raised here in that often there really is no yes or no answer as transferring in X player will depend on price and what you do with either money saved, or money you have to glean from another player. We bring our experiences into it but also try to present the latest research into players. But ultimately with Sanchez and Walcott there is no yes and no.

Yes Sanchez is better than Walcott in a straight shoot out. We describe how he has better stats - especially with Cazorla out. We also looked at how Sanchez has double his points in recent games.

But No, perhaps Sanchez isn't if you take that extra 3m in getting Walcott and use that to say upgrade Lukaku to Kane or Aguero. Then perhaps Sanchez and a cheap striker is worse than Walcott and a great striker.

Sometimes we do nail it down to a yes or no, like Kane being the best captain pick in GWK 14, but fantasy football is rarely as simple as that.

Hope that helps. And do keep the questions coming. We can't give our yes, no and most likely maybe views without such community questions 🙂

Completely agree here. However, if you discuss questions I don't think it would be bad by starting ( or finishing) the analysis with; yes, I think Walcott can cover for Sanchez BUT sanchez will outscore him etc etc. Or No, I don't think Walcott can cover BUT if you can't afford Sanchez etc etc. There's always one direction you lean more towards. Having said that, it will always by about personal opinion and insight so no need to judge someone on leaning more or less towards one answer.

That discussion was a good example where "maybe" was the key answer. Mark and Granville have Walcott not Sanchez and they clearly think that's the best route to go. Andy is far from convinced by that and liked Sanchez. I was undecided but reluctantly was persuaded by the strong argument that by getting Walcott I can also afford one of Aguero or Costa. If I got Sanchez in then that ends Aguero or Costa dreams - which will be the case for many other managers.

Hard to even sum that up as a yes or no. But hopefully the above helped others come to their own decision.

Good point! All questions cant be answered!
Wou have to be optimistic sometimes, its how things are in fpl
with the wally-sanchez part, everyone clearly knows who the better player is! but that 3m difference helps the rest team go from Pieters to Alonso and Lukaku to Kane
They give their views on which player ig good and stuff
        You just cant predict
Today Sanchez could score a hatty and Wally tomorrow
They could both blank as well for weeks
Stats is what they tell us and decisions should be made by us
We manage OUR team, Jonty, Mark and co dont
So stop being so harsh, mate.

I'm probably at risk of repeating others points here but we'll go with it anyway 🙂

I don't think anyone on The Scoutcast won't make a decision just because it will put egg on their face - look at myself and Jonty taking Aguero out, me holding Ibra for ages, Mark getting rid of Aguero last season when no-one else was really considering it.

The problem with the questions is there's very rarely a yes or no answer, or a right or wrong answer and sometimes you're answering without any context.

For example, Sanchez v Walcott. What does that extra money let you do? Do you have other captain options or will Sanchez be your captain for the most part?

Most of the time when I see the final questions I always think "well that's actually quite hard to answer because of such and such" but you have to give an opinion on it one way or another and present your thoughts and research.

We got a bit of our wires crossed on Walcott I think (perhaps my fault) because I was arguing he wasn't a good pick versus other options in a similar price bracket whereas Mark and Granville were primarily comparing him to Sanchez.

All we can do is give reasoning behind our thoughts and then let the viewer take it from there, we're not there to give 100% yes or no answers to every question, there still has to be some decision making from the manager themselves.

Going back to Walcott I argued that his stats were on the slide and Jonty did similar, although said he was still probably the sensible move. Mark and Granville still think he's a good option. So you did essentially get a yes or no, it was just a bit split (which will almost always happen).

As someone who used to watch the show religiously I like the format we're currently at (although I'm sure there's improvements that can be made and we'd love to hear everyones feedback), as both a viewer and now Scoutcaster (not really sure what to call it!), I don't think there's a need to get a 100% definitive answer but to keep discussing different views and arguments.

I like the Scoutcast more because it shows how experienced players are thinking when looking at issues FPL throws up.
More about thought processes than specific answers.

I would argue you can't have definitive answers on many questions like these for 2 reasons.
      1. It's never more than an educated guess. The whole point of FPL is its unpredictability. This last GW you've got a lot of good sides that on paper should be racking up big points with the fixtures but didn't.
      2. You can't answer definitively does Walcott cover Sanchez because the key to it is how you invest the cash difference rather than how the 2 players concerned perform.
It becomes an open question as each side has its own requirements. It becomes too big a question will an extra 3 million invested in my defence + Walcott equal/better Sanchez and a cheaper defence.

Scoutcasts just provide guidelines & tips but it isn't there to pick your side for you otherwise what's the point of playing FPL in the 1st place.

On that point 1 - there was a team I read out on the rough with the smooth bit that was incredible - full of great players and he got an even worse gwk score than me. Makes no sense but shows how unpredictable this season is for fantasy managers.

That's why I read out that F Society quote too about dogs chasing their tails.

At the end of the day if we can offer some support around the hopes, fears, frustrations and joys that many Fantasy football managers feel each season then we've done our job.

As someone pointed out to me on Twitter the other day the scoutcast is like therapy for me due to my poor rank. Hopefully all those other managers with poor ranks can relate to that too. How I wish there was a simple yes or no sometimes. 😉

i felt his pain. saturday morning thought I could be on for a bumper week - 2 liverpool mids who had been scoring pts for fun in home games against Sunderland, 3 Chelsea at home on a great run of form, Arsenal defender at home to Bournemouth, Leicester defender at home to Boro, Foster @ Hull + Lukaku - none of whom contributed more than 3pts.
Grand total of 39pts thanks to Walcott & Austin.

Crazy isn't it. That team could have scored 90 plus.

I'm starting to think that just sticking with a team and only removing if injured or form really drops through the floor is the best way. Some weeks you'll get that score - others more than double.

I just think that sometimes you and the guys are asked a question and you DO have a yes or a no or a maybe or a I'm not quite sure answer, but because you have just a passionate debate and discussion amongst yourselves, that the answer is never articulated and never stated outloud ... and then you move onto the next question.

I just think a tweak to the format and a quick follow up at the end of the question would really help.

This reminds me of a really good film, Lone Survivor.
      Special forces on a covert mission in Afghan are compromised by local farmers, this leaves the unit with two options;

      A) Kill the farmers and carry on.
      B) Let them go and almost certainly be discovered.

What (according to the guy the film is based on) is the right answer?

Well he said it makes him laugh when he reads people on the internet adamant that either A or B is right, truth is there is no right answer, you just have to do what you feel is best at the time, every situation is different.

Thankfully the stakes are a lot lower for us fpl managers but the point stands.
Ps it's the banter that makes the scoutcast good not definitive answers, if those were available I'd be writing this from a beach in Barbados.

      I never expect a definite Y or N.
The Scout Picks & Captain Poll are sufficient in my opinion and as for player analysis, forecasts & comparisons, it's the discussion that counts as far as I'm concerned.
There's just far too many permutations.

I enjoy reading all the comments & opinions on here as much as the Scoutcasts as, whilst I do some research myself - I don't have the time (or patience) to do as much as many folks on here do. I'll almost always overlook factors that the SC or comments here bring up. For that I'm grateful, but I take it all as general opinion only, nothing more, nothing less.

I know you will/have been slated a bit for this but I see his point. IF you hold sway in what they decide a quick yes/no poll at the end of each question would be a good idea, and also drive further discussion.

Unless they are foolish people know this is a variable game and people can't be held accountable if their opinions don't become facts.

Not a problem. It's a fair enough point and as a listener you are, sort of, a customer. To be honest they do similar in semi regular articles about the chief talking points so why not on the pod as a little round up. As long as people aren't taking their advice as gospel and reacting negatively if it turns out bad then there is no issue.

Maybe as a compromise they could start by saying their overall answer, e.g. Yes / no or the name of a player, etc and then do the discussion as normal in order to explain or justify their answer and add any caveats.

It does frustrate me a bit that most discussions seem to end with Mark saying "we'll see" - which does rather defeat the object as FPL is all about making decisions in advance, as once we've "seen" it is too late - Captain Hindsight and all that

wow you've really copped it here.

i see your point though, as someone who is on the other side of the world and doesn't have a lot of time to do research i perhaps rely too heavily on the guys to keep me in the loop and help me pick my team.

But yes i do also see what everyone else is saying and agree their points are valid (although perhaps harsh on you!) its a tough one.

the guys do a great job i love the scoutcast for information and for banter 🙂

No this is a terrible idea. People already place too much emphasis on what the scout cast guys say.

The most valuable part of the scout cast is the discussion and thought processes behind making a decision on what is the best route.

I think they go too far already recommending one thing over another. I don't think spoonfeeding should be their remit, they give so much information that if you can't make a decision you maybe should look for a different game to play.

Straight answers shouldn't be given. The scouts provide you with information letting you decide for yourself based on what they provided you with, otherwise we'd all be like sheep with the same teams, which is already a problem here.

No offense, but it hurts my eyes to look at that question.

Mkhitaryan and Martial really need to start all the time in the league now. No more Lingard nonsense

Yeah I don't get it at all. Mkhitaryan is one of the best attacking mids in the world, and Martial will be. Lingard looks bang average to me.

United have some great fixtures after Spurs.
Here's hoping the next two show he can be in the starting line up.
8.9 is pretty expensive until we know more.

True but when you consider the hype in preseason and he was 9.5 then. but you're right, we cant jump in so soon. especially in december and the tight schedule
