Dugout Discussion – Crystal Palace vs Hull City

Sunday’s events begin at Selhurst Park in an encounter that’s crucial from a Premier League perspective but offers only partial Fantasy interest.

Following Swansea City’s victory at Sunderland on Saturday, relegation-threatened Crystal Palace and Hull City will go into the noon kick-off decidedly edgy, with the home side likely to be set up to avoid defeat, while the Tigers will surely need to snatch all three points.

Palace’s Wilfried Zaha is the most owned outfield player on show.

Still part of 12% of squads, the winger has nonetheless been shed by over 226,000 FPL managers over the past three Gameweeks following a dismal run of just seven points from his last five starts. That spell followed huge investment ahead of his two fixtures over Double Gameweek 34 which saw him produce a pair of 1-point returns.

Eagles boss Sam Allardyce will certainly look to Zaha to inspire his side today, along with striker Christian Benteke. The Belgian has followed a similar pattern to Zaha – spiking in ownership ahead of Gameweek 34, only to lose over 183,000 owners over the last two Gameweeks.

Benteke and his remaining owners will take some comfort from the fact that Hull City have shipped 13 goals from corners and the same number of headed goals – in both cases the most conceded in the Premier League.

But Palace have also shown fragility at set-pieces – they have also allowed 13 goals this season – a factor which could be exposed by Marco Silva’s visitors.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My BB is worse than Hebknut's.

    Pickford (1), Holgate (1), Maguire (0), Anichebe (1)

Not to mention dross like Willy, Stephens, Yoshida, Pedro stinking up the place. Anyone worse?

First of all jesus will probably end up with more points than both of them. Hazard could but unlikely

Secondly, palace had hull at home so there was always a chance of backfiring. U dig?

Has this been mentioned in the past?

Could some players have a double position status?

    Lets say Alonso-

    Classified as Defender and Midfielder.

If you would play him in a D slot, he would keep points as any other regular defender.
If you would play him in a M slot, he would keep points as any other midfielder x2.

His price would be higher than this season.

We could have perhaps 5-10 players like this. (Milner, Brunt springs to my mind).

    Silly idea? 😀

      Awful idea.

FPL is great as it is. Over complicating the game would just ruin it. There is no reason at all to do that. It's just overthinking things to the max.

Ok, scoring system for those guys would have to be reconsidered but my main objective is to have double positioned guys= aka aces to be used when you can.

This is the best fantasy game out there and there are plenty to choose from.
It ain't broke so no need to 'fix' it.
Plenty of other games to play.

I think the simplest solution for players like him (wing back) is to up his price.

As for the others, wherever they play most the season before should determine position for the current season.

      1. the snazzy viking
        • 7 Years

Probably is, although there are some players (eg. Antonio) who switch positions all the time depending on the manager's formation and you can't just keep changing his price without price changes. Who would want a 6.7 midfielder playing RB? Who would ignore a 6.7 midfielder playing as a striker?

        1. Somalion

Well price wise it's about the start of the season pricing. A player like Alonso for example should be priced higher, maybe the highest we've seen for a defender, because he's playing a more attacking role.

As for classification, they have to base it on where they reckon he'll play next season. It involves a bit of work, no doubt and looking at players the club sign to give an indication but I think it's still a solid enough system. Much better than having multiple options for the same player in different positions imo.

I like it but there needs to be some changes:

-Alonso classified as a Defender must be 7.0 or 6.5, and get the Bonus Point System scores as you would for a defender.

-Alonso classified as a Midfielder must be around 5.0-6.0 and get the Bonus Point system scores as you would for a midfielder.

-Alonso would get more Bonus Points for scoring as a midfielder, and if he is a defender, he gets more Bonus Points for keeping a clean sheet.

-You can only have one Alonso

-Having the midfielder version would be cheaper but less points for clean sheet, but the defender version would be a lot more expensive, though more points for clean sheet and for scoring.

      I love this idea

Well at least somebody 😉 I am not sure yet on the scoring system or prices but I would like to build on that double position platform for some players (bonus players, aces whatever you want to name them). I understand not everybody feels the same when it comes down to change but we innovate all the time and this could be considered. 😉

If I had Alonso for a game I was almost expecting a clean sheet for and he played as a winger that particular game, I'd be livid. It would leave things far more down to luck than I'm happy with, just put his price up.

Maybe fpl to update positions on a quarterly basis to keep things more up to date for players oop? Probably a terrible idea...

Maybe it's not such a terrible idea then, would make things more interesting for dedicated managers as you would have to look at position changes which would create interesting differentials.

Not trying to have a pop but it really annoys me when someone who is new to the game wants to re-define it.

Look how many play the game but you want to come along and change it.

I think the game has progressed, it has to be addressed. Some of the attacking wing backs could have double position status- could be differentials throughout the season if you would own them- not just 3 chips a season. It would separate active managers from the rest.

if there was one thing id change and only one it would be half points for players off bench, rounded up eg 5 points becomes 3 if off bench. i think the skill is to get the right starting xi and anything in off bench is fortunate

I don't think the best players always win the day in this game.. In my ML there's someone who's been as low as 900 in the world yet he's clearly not a good player. Sounds mad to say it but he used his BB and TC on single game weeks, the BB the week before a DGW. Used his wildcard in a blank and I'm 3rd in this league and the person in 4th is better than the person in second. You can tell he knows more by the moves he makes, yet there he is languishing in 361,671

Guys I get confused sometimes with these articles. Every one seems to be the most captained player while obviously there can only be one.

So was it Jesus ,Sanchez or Aguero most captained this wk? Or was it Costa from a previous article. Not the first wk iv noticed this.

Hazard been rested and (c)Sanchez out would be final nail in my ML coffin. Rival has fabregas and Jesus capt and I'm 11 pts ahead of him.

Need Eriksen and Kane to stretch that gap a bit further to have any chance if above transpires.

On the positive side, Kante could come in for Fab, and Jesus appeared to have picked up a knock yesterday.

You could say it's pretty much free gambling, although a lot of Mini Leagues have cash prizes, most people just play it for the glory.

I can't think of any season keeper, heavyhitter for next season.
Sanchez, Aguero, Lukaku on the move. Hazard not explosive anymore for the last two years. Kane starts seasons slowly and Spurs can't handle CL and Prem.
Mané is the best I think of atm.

could be an opportunity to start with a more balanced 15, with early bench boost in mind. GW37 isn't working for most of us.
