Fantasy Eliteserien Gameweek 18 Preview

After a three week break Eliteserien returns this Saturday when Rosenborg face Kristiansund at home. In this team by team preview I will focus on new transfers and also any an update on injuries.
The transfer window is still open for another two weeks, so a lot can still happen. Sadly, however, Fantasy Eliteserien had not added the new players to Fantasy Eliteserien at the time of writing, so we don’t know how much the new guys will cost.

Rosenborg

Rosenborg have added two new players to their squad, Jonatan Levi from Swedish second tier club Östers. and Morten Konradsen. Levi’s a 21-year-old attacking midfielder, capable of playing at both wings. An interesting prospect, but I can’t see him making a big impact in this game this season. Morten Konradsen is a strange one. He’s been struggling with injuries and I can’t see him making any impact at Rosenborg. 19-year-old John Hou Sæter has been sold to Stabæk, while Erlend Dahl Reitan has been loaned out to Bodø/Glimt. Reitan was the backup right back, so this makes Vegar Eggen Hedenstad more nailed on than ever.

The future of Milan Jevtovic hasn’t been decided yet as his loan expires at the end of the month. Fredrik Midtsjø is in talks with AZ Alkmaar and is looking likely to leave.

Mushaga Bakenga is free to leave the club this summer and could end up at another Eliteserien club.

Rosenborg have impressed in the Champions League qualifiers, but were knocked out by Celtic after a 0-0 draw away and a 0-1 loss at home. Pål André Helland made a sub appearance against Celtic, so he’s likely to start in the home tie against Kristiansund on SaturdayTore Reginiussen didn’t make the return tie against Celtic, after picking up an injury in the first gameHe’s doubtful for the Kristiansund game, but could make it.

Watch out for the lineups ahead of the deadline on Saturday, there could be some rotation. I would expect benched players like Matthias Vilhjalmson, Pål André Helland and Elba Rashani to start on Saturday.

Sarpsborg

Sarpsborg signed Amin Askar on a free transfer back in June. He mainly operates as a right winger, but he’s also capable of playing as a left winger. A couple of years ago he delivered great numbers for Brann over three seasons, but after two seasons in a second tier Turkish club it remains to be seen how good he’s right now. An interesting Fantasy prospect.

Swedish striker Erton Fejzullahu return to Sweden after just four months at Sarpsborg, while backup centre back Morten Sundli has been sold to Swedish club Öster.

It’s been reported that Krepin Diatta is being sold to Belgian side Club Brügge for a club record fee at two million pounds.

Molde

Molde has focused on strengthening at the back. 29-year-old Vegard Forren comes back to Molde after being released by Brighton this summer. He left Molde after last season on a free transfer. He was all but ready to sign for Rosenborg when Brighton came in last minute in January, but he now returns to Molde after playing zero minutes for Brighton. The former Southampton player has played 238 games for Molde and is a former captain, so he’s expected to go straight into the starting XI.

Swedish left back Christopher Telo has also signed for the club and could be a potential starter at left wingback. Amidou Diop has left for Kristiansund and Ole-Martin Rindarøy has left for Sogndal.

Brann

Brann have been really quiet this transfer window and I don’t expect them to sign anyone unless Piotr Leciejewski leaves. It’s been really quiet lately, but he was spotted in the stands at a Zaglebie Lubin played in Poland so it doesn’t look like it’s dead yet. Brann prefer to keep him.

Haugesund

Haugesund have loaned Polish midfielder Jakub Serafin from Lech Poznan, the club who beat them in the Europa League qualifiers. He’s expected to take place in midfield instead of club captain Filip Kiss, who’s been sold to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. Erik Huseklepp has failed to establish himself in Haugesund and has been loaned out to second tier club Åsane. Bruno Soares has been released (and later signed with Hapoel Tel-Aviv) and striker Johnny Per Buduson has been loaned out to second tier club Fredrikstad.

Stabæk

Stabæk have been fairly quiet this summer, with 19-year-old John Hou Sæter from Rosenborg being their only signing.  He was regarded as a big talent, but has struggled with pericarditis and other injuries. It will be interesting to see if he can reboot his career at Stabæk, but I don’t expect him to be a good fantasy option. Defensive midfielder El-Hadji Ba has left for French club Sochaux, which is a big blow for them. Former Manchester City striker Alex Nimely has been released on a free transfer.

Vålerenga

Adam Larsen Kwarasey was signed earlier this summer from Danish club Bröndby. The former Rosenborg and Strømsgodset keeper is expect to be first choice at his new club. Rasmus Lindkvist has been sold to Swedish club AIK, while Muhamed Keita’s loan has expired. There hasn’t been much new regarding Ghayas Zahid, so he’s most likely still a Vålerenga player this gameweek.

Aalesund

Lars Veldwijk’s loan expired at the end of July. He returned to Belgian side KV Kortrijk, before they sold him to FC Groningen. As his replacement Aalesund got Greek striker Athanasios Papazoglou on loan from the same Belgian side, KV Kortrijk. According to Aalesund’s coach he’s more dangerous in front of goal than Veldwijk, but it remains to be seen how good he actually is. I really doubt he’ll be as underpriced as Veldwijk was.

Lillestrøm

Lillestrøm found good form before the summer break and have also been active in the transfer market over the summer, so it remains to be seen what it means for their starting XI.

Striker Marco Tagbajumi has been signed from Strømsgodset and he’s very likely to be a starter. That means either Chigozie Udoji or Erlind Knudtzon will be moved out wide, or Udoji could find the bench. If either of those are moved out wide, Aleksander Melgalvis could be moved back to right back or to the bench. Melgalvis picked up an injury in a friendly during the break so I’m not 100% sure if he’ll be fit for this GW. My knowledge about Lillestrøm isn’t the greatest, but both Megalvis and Knudtzon have been pretty impressive in their respective positions so I’ll think they’ll continue for now at least as long as they are fit.

Croatian goalkeeper Marko Maric has been loaned from Hoffenheim and I suspect he’ll be first choice soon. They have also signed Nigerian defensive midfielder Charles Chinedu Ezeh. He might not be ready to break into the starting XI yet, but long term he’s probably a replacement for Bonke Innocent who has left for Swedish club Malmö. Both Tomas Malec and Michal Skoda has returned to their clubs after unsuccessful loan spells, while goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes has been released.

Odd

Odd haven’t signed any new players, but they have sold two key players. Rafik Zekhnini has been sold to Fiorentina for a fee believed to be 1.5 million pound, while Fredrik Oldrup Jensen was sold to Belgian side Zulte Waregem. Odd face Dinamo Zagreb at home in the Europa League qualifiers today (August 3rd) after losing 1-2 away.

Sandefjord

Sandefjord have been active during the summer and made some interesting signings.

Former Schalke 04 midfielder Carlos Grossmüller has arrived on loan from Uruguayan club Danubio, while striker Facundo Rodríguez has arrived on loan from Uruguayan club Penarol. Dutch centre back Crescendo van Berkel has signed on free transfer from Dutch club Telstar. I suspect all three will be starters. Striker Markus Naglestad and midfielder Elliot Kebbie has left the club.

There has been lots of talk in the media about Diego Forlan moving to Sandefjord, but it’s starting to look unlikely now.

Sogndal

Sogndal snapped 20-year-old English centre back Reiss Greenidge in front of Viking, after he impressed for the latter at a trial. Left back Knut Olav Rindarøy, winger Joachim Soltvedt and striker Markus Brændsrød has also signed for the club. I expect Rindarøy to go straight into the starting XI, while the other three are unknown quantity for me. Left back Kristinn Jónsson, centre back Walid Atta and midfielders Simen Brekkhus and Henrik Furebotn has left the club.

Centre backs Kjetil Wæhler and Espen Næss Lund are most ending their Stabæk careers as well. Left back Lars Christian Kjemhus damaged his knee ligaments in training and won’t return this season.

Strømsgodset

Strømsgodset haven’t signed any new players, but they have sold forwards Tommy Høiland and Marco Tagbajumi to Viking and Lillestrøm.

Radoslaw Janukiewicz has returned after his loan spell, while Sosha Makani will return to Mjøndalen when his loan expired on August 14th.

Kristiansund

Kristiansund have signed a number of midfielders during the summer. Amidou Diop has arrived from Molde, Olav Øby has arrived from Sarpsborg on loan and winger Torgil Gjertsen has signed from Ranheim. Midfielder Andreas Rødsand has also returned from a loan spell at Nest Sotra.

Rocky Lekaj has left the club for Fredrikstad and Thompson Unachi Ekpe has returned to Molde (and then sold to Arendal) after a loan spell.

Tromsø

Tromsø has been really quiet. Patrick Kpozo has returned to AIK after an unsuccessful loan spell. It’s been quiet regardin Aron Sigurdarson lately and he remains at Tromsø for now.

Viking

The most active club this summer has been Viking. A number of players have signed, while a couple of players have moved on.

They have signed some proven Eliteserien quality in forward Tommy Høiland and winger Fredrik Torsteinbø. They have also added a lot of players who are unknown to most of us. Croatian centre back Sime Gregov has signed from Slovenian club Koper, Spanish defender José Manuel Cruz has signed from Spanish third tier club Ferrol and former Watford midfielder Ross Jenkins has signed on a free transfer after his contract expired at Bulgarian club Pirin Blagojevgrad. They have also signed Tore-André Sørås from second tier side Follo. I expect Høiland, Torsteinbø, Gregov and Jenkins to be starters, so it’s definitely interesting to see how Viking look with at least four new players in their starting XI.  Cruz could also be a starter, but Martinsen have done well the last few games.

Centre back Michael Ledger and striker Kwesi Appiah returned to Sunderland and Crystal Palace after their loans expired back in June, while first choice centre back Karol Mets has been sold to Dutch side NAC Breda.

Backup striker Patrick Pedersen has been sold to Icelandic club Valur, while Robin Shroot returns to Hødd after a unsuccessful loan spell. Samuel Adegbenro remains a Viking player for now, although there are loads of interest from Bursaspor, Rosenborg, Molde and a couple of other unnamed clubs. Viking fully expect him to play against Lillestrøm, unless something drastic happens in the next few days.

What’s next?

There is still some uncertainty over a couple of key players with two weeks remaining of the transfer window. Fredrik Midtsjø looks likely to leave Rosenborg and I would be surprised if Samuel Adegbenro remains at Viking, although he could stay in Eliteserien. Other players linked with moves are Anders Trondsen, Ohi Omoijuanfo, Ghayas Zahid, Aron Sigurdarson and Piotr Leciejewski. Interestingly Anders Trondsen has been mentioned as a possible Fredrik Midtsjø replacement at Rosenborg. Milan Jevtovic’s future is still up in the air as well and there could always be some unexpected transfers to come.

If I missed any transfers or injuries, please add below. There are limited resources for injury news in Eliteserien, so it’s very likely I missed some of them. I won’t name any differential this Gameweek as it’s really tough to pick with a lot of uncertain starting XI due to transfers, European qualifiers (Rosenborg and Odd) and fitness issues after the summer break.

Got 2 free transfers, looking to save my wildcard until GW21/when the doubles start arriving but still thinking fairly short term with transfers.

Will Gregersen's place be in danger for Molde with Forren back? Still worth getting Remmer in if he's playing at wingback?

Worth replacing Reginiussen with Hedenstad despite Molde (a) coming up? Or Rosted as I have no S08 defensive cover?

Don't know on Gregersen. I'd prefer Hedenstad to Rosted, but need to weigh up any rotation risk with euro games.

Perhaps worth noting chatter (rumours) about Vilhjalmsson leaving:

But I'd guess that may just be grumbles about being benched.

Happy to be back. Went with Mos > Vilhjalmsson this week and captaining him too. Could've gone with Hedenstad but I'm not pushing my luck after captaining him in their last home game and getting 24 points from him. I'll deal with Melgalvis later. I'll probably wildcard in international break. Hope I can get back to top 1000 this week.

Dilemma: Haugen out? Or Andersen out? In knutdzon..I'm fed up with Haugen, only reason keeping him is that he is involved in much of the game and deadballs..

Definitely don't get rid of Andersen, he's playing at home and he's scored in the last five home games!

I would keep Haugen as well to be honest but if you must get rid of one, I'd say get rid of Haugen

Seeing a few comments about using wc soon or after next international break.

Would have thought more would be saving it for dgw25, no?

My use of WC depends on who gets transferred out in this transfer window. I all ready have dead wood, injury and rotation to deal with as well as teams coming good or going off the boil. I plan on WC for the doubles and transition in or out to suit. I have not decided which but if the squad goes to pot in the mean time I will pull the pin early.
I was really hoping that the summer transfers would give me the chance to gain an edge but nothing dramatic has happened so far.

Only Vålerenga and Haugesund have DGW in 25, Tromsø and Odd not placed yet. Anyway I'd say it's viable to go with something like this, regardless of the DGW

                Rossbach - McDermott
Hedenstad - Ruud - Tollås Nation - Knudsen - Seck
                Zahid - Andersen - Jevtovic - Hajrdainovic - A. Sigurdarson/Rashani
                B. Sigurdarson - Ohi/Moa - Shuaibu

But it's all up in the air at the moment. Rossbach, Zahid, A. Sigurdarson and Ohi could leave. Adegbenro could stay. Hard to say at the moment.

Exactly. A lot up in the air at the moment, so I'm keeping my wildcard firmly tucked away for now. I suppose if my team is wrecked by the end of the transfer window I might reconsider...

The transfer window close after GW19, but clubs can still sell until foreign transfer windows close. After GW20 there's a three week break, where foreign transfer windows close as well. If you WC after GW20 we'll know who's available for the rest of the season at least.

I was planning to keep my WC closer to the DGW, but my team is a mess currently and if I WC after GW20 it's only four gameweeks ahead of the DGW. Who knows, maybe Tromsø - Odd will be scheduled earlier than GW25.

Best replacement for an injured Melgalvis? Thinking Hanche-Olsen or Olsen Solberg. Ryerson is another option I guess, but Viking defence is so leaky.

Olsen Solberg if you don't own Seck. Some tasty home fixtures coming up. I suspect you have 4.5ish to replace him? Haraldseid and Kind Mikalsen are great options if you can stretch your budget.

Here's a another reminder of my 2 FPL leagues:

I created a FPL-Draft league with 16 teams and there are still 6 places free.

The code for the FFS Eliteserien Super 16 Cup is:

              274225-69433

Maybe a little late posting this and hoping for replies by deadline, but:

              Kristiansen, Bråtveit
              Rolantsson, Nouri, (Melgalvis), Seck, Steiring
              Andersen, Knudtzon, Adegbenro, Haugen, Jevtovic
              Sigurdarson, Vilhjalmsson, Mendy

              2 FT, 0.8M ITB.

Would really like to do Melgalvis -> Remmer but am 0.1m short. Which other player would anyone sacrifice to fund this move? Adegbenro? Vilhjalmsson? I was planning to do Vilhjalmsson -> Mos next week, but I guess I could do Vilhjalmsson -> Mortensen (or Ohi) this week and be happy enough with that, especially if Vilhjalmsson isn't in the starting line-up today.

Not sure I'd sacrifice any of those mids, unless more info on Adegbenro.
Jevtovic could also be on bench after euro game.

Vilhjalmson should start. Wouldn't downgrade Adegbenro this week. You could look into someone who rotates well with Seck. Haven't checked myself

I'd say get Våge Nilsen at Odd. Classified as a defender, plays as a CM. Pretty nailed unless they sign another CM. Great fixture this week.

Thanks for the tip, Niemi. Unfortunately I'm 0.1m short for that transfer too (my selling value for Melgalvis is 4.5m), but I've added him to my Ønskeliste for later.

Either way, I'm pretty set on making the Remmer move work, and I'm happy with Steiring as my Seck rotator. They're both away this week, but rotate nicely for the next 4. Steiring is 4.1m (I got him at 3.9m), and is 3,8,8,1,6,6,0 in home games.

If I were to go cheaper as my Melgalvis replacement my best options would be Knudsen or Olsen Solberg, but that would mean doubling up defensively on Haugesund or Sandefjord.

Would not sell Wiljamsson for Mos. Mos hasn't delivered for ages and I'm selling him for Wiljamsson if Wiljamsson starts today.

I see that Mos is currently going through a run of form similar to the one Ohi went through from GW6 to GW14, but Ohi has come good again and I think Mos will too.

It's frustrating owning these players at these times, but you have to take the bad with the good (or ideally dump them during the bad and get them back for the expected good).

AAFK have one of the best upcoming fixture runs, if they could just score some damn goals.
Not sure I have the patience though.

In my panic of trying to decide on a double transfer in 8 minutes and having a comment marked for review while trying to provide information to other (probably panicking) managers I never thought to link the lineup like you did. Bravo for common sense.

Well that was a hectic few minutes! I forgot I had my captain/vice on Andersen/Adegbenro while waiting on the Rosenborg lineup (in my defense I set this lineup almost 3 weeks ago when there was much uncertainty over RBK's starting XI, what with CL qualifiers and loan spells ending). EUA at home isn't the worst captain, but after seeing Jevtovic starting I would've changed to him if I hadn't taken my eye off the ball.

                                  Finally looked it up:

"Before the last pass". It's a blocked shot. Same as a keeper would save and then rebound to another player. You get an assist for that 100%.

Yes, a rebound from a blocked shot is an assist in fantasy games.

Bendtner has awoken, after his goal he (rightly) gave Jevtovic what-for for not making the pass to him right away, right after he assists perfectly to same Jevtovic.

Congratulations. As a previous long-suffering Bendtner owner (and frequent captainer) I have to say you deserve your reward, especially if you've held faith with him since early season.

Hah. Thank you! I drafted him on my wc gw 16 though, so I haven't suffered what you have.

I did bet on him a few weeks back to be top goal scorer of the season for 15 times the money back, 4 goals behind Ohi now with Rosenborg clicking into gear. I can see it happening.

Still... well done. It took big balls to draft him in at his price with the record he had when you did.

Although with 18 goals in the last 5 you pretty much can't go wrong with any of the Rosenborg attacking assets at the moment.

Not sure if I'm happy with my Hedenstad transfer or not. Attacking returns - yes. Clean sheet - no. They can't keep a CS in Eliteserien.. Never! So frustrating.

Yes I was picking this as a clean sheet week for RBK.
Hedenstad planned for me with Melgalvis to Hedenstad and get the money from Helland to Jevtovic maybe in two weeks time.
Melgalvis can stay on the bench for this week and next.

I bet they keep a clean against my Svendsen and B Sig next week though.
It will be interesting who I pick for the bench.

My team is so unbalanced right now. Reginiussen, Hedenstad, Ruud, Rolantsson and Seck at the back. No idea who to bench. Probably Reginiussen as Seck has to play, but I need to bench another player as well. Such a headache.

A week is a long time in sport but play Seck, Rolantsson and Hedenstad if they are all fit.
Ruud away to Brann is not going to score much imo.
Reginiussen also has a tough fixture even if fit. Good luck with your deliberations.

I play 4 or 5 at the back most weeks and you could do the same - but I think I would bench Reginiussen anyways.

Kristiansund is pretty free scoring, a CS was never particularly likely this gw. Nor is it against Molde. However, it worries me to see how lackadaisycal Rosenborg get when they are in the lead. A flurry of misplaced passes in dangerous positions.

Hedenstad still seems to be the best defender in the game at the moment, he takes so many set pieces and keeps getting in dangerous positions. Besides, Rosenborgs defense remains among the best and they are coming into form now.

The big worry with Hedenstad and RBK is rotation but as you say he plays for a form team with set pieces. He will be in my squad later in the season but not for the next GW.
Kristiansund however are poor and Rosenborg should be able to shut them out easily. The goal scored against was as much RBK not defending well as opposed to good attacking play imo.
I am just off to watch the highlights again after watching the crusaders v Lions super rugby match this arvo.

                                              Thanks for the reply 🙂

Hedenstad is unlikely to be rotated, they offloaded his rival for the spot in the summer window. He is as nailed as they come although of course, the danger is there for everyone.

You can argue that Kristiansund are poor, however they have scored in every match since gw 9, including 3 goals the last time they face Rosenborg. That makes a clean sheet unlikely.

Hedenstad won't get rotated much since the only other RB was a Junior that they lent out to a tier2 team. Consider him nailed barring injury.

Bendtner's assist to Jevtovic was pure class. He went up in my estimation as a team player for RBK but still not an asset for fantasy football imo. I may live to regret not owning him later in the season but I can enjoy his work on the pitch anyway.

                                          Yeah, that assist was beautiful.

He hasn't been worth 12 mill so far, that's for sure. But remember that Rosenborg has trained all year to be top of their game from august and on in an attempt to qualify for Europe. You can expect the team to raise their level for the rest of the season (as indeed they have for the past games in the league).
