Dugout Discussion – Bournemouth vs Man City

Gameweek 3 gets underway at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth entertain Manchester City in the 12.30pm kick-off.

The visitors have made a somewhat underwhelming start to the new season, netting just three times in the first couple of matches.

As a result, Pep Guardiola has made a number of alterations, with the decision to drop Sergio Aguero to the bench a major surprise.

With the battle for our three-man frontlines intensifying, the Argentine’s absence could trigger big sales over the upcoming international break.

Team-mates Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne were sold by 218,000 and 117,00 FPL managers respectively last week after serving up back-to-back blanks. But a return to a lone striker system now looks set to force a reassessment of City’s attack.

For the Cherries, Eddie Howe unleashes Josh King alongside Jermain Defoe for the first time as they go in search of their first league goal of the season.

The hosts’ Ryan Fraser also drops out as Howe opts for a wing-back system, with Charlie Daniels and Adam Smith on the flanks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

KDB had a really solid performance, unlucky not to translate into FPL points. Super frustrating how volatile player prices are these days- KDB a good long term option yet will fall in value based on the herd shipping him out

Solid, yes. Just seems to play a bit far back, more likely to assist the assister. May score some long ranges and possibly the odd free-kick though. I'm not sure he is a good long-term option for 10m. Especially as I don't have Eriksen or Alli or Mane.

Well you need Eriksen. Alli will come good, Mane a good shout, but imo KDB outscores all of them over the course of the season. Not a great first 3, but he's always a boom or bust type of player on a given GW

He was decent second half and could've had an assist but in the first half he was deeper than Fernandinho at times. He will get points but he's simply not worth 10m.

Agree volatility has gone down a bit, but groupthink on FFS still playing a big role. I'm not afraid of losing .1-.3 on him, team value is something people put too much emphasis on. I hear the "playing too deep" argument and disagree. KDB has the same pattern of play as every season, 3 blanks followed by 2 double digit hauls...just wait

Exactly. The knee-jerking on here really bothers me since it actually effects my team value. .1 isn't a good reason to sell someone who had 21 assists last term...he'll come good...

Maybe not deeper, but in terms of looking to move the ball forward, I'd say even Matic and Kante have shown better sins this year. Too often I'm seeing KdB this year dropping back while his team are still moving forward.

Don't criticise knee-jerkers as if they're objectively making a mistake by doing an early transfer. Getting value is an important part of the early game, and selling KDB today may pay off, albeit as a risk

I respectfully disagree completely. Making transfers before GW's end AND international break to save .1 is the dumbest thing you can possibly do. Patience pays in this game...seasons I've knee-jerked and paid attention to this forum I've struggled. When I'm patient, I finish top 10k...

I think the KDB exodus is justified personally, he's not worth his price tag and City haven't looked convincing. Assists are great but he needs to be scoring more. Rather have Eriksen for 0.5 less

I have Eriksen as well- essential. I'm going on a limb to say KDB will hit 5-10 goals and 15+ assists when all is said and done. I'll keep him.

I find the herd mentality and the way it shifts prices - especially those casuals who bring in whoever has got points that day - but I don't know if we can describe KDB sales as knee jerk. It frustrates me hugely but he's done nothing in 3 games and clearly operates further back.

Agree with your response. I still have faith in KDB but it's annoying scrolling through comments not 5 minutes after a game has finished and every post is about getting rid of a player who blanked. It's laughable how fickle every vocal contributor to this forum is...

I am planning to sell him, but I'd hardly call it limited knowledge. I've seen all 3 of their matches so far and his playing style is what convinces me to sell him, not the blanks themselves.

He's sitting much further back than he was last season. He's still finding himself in places from which he can do something, but more worryingly, he's choosing to step back and pass it to a defender rather than try to take the ball forward and look for an attacker. One game I thought maybe I'm overthinking it. Second game I thuought maybe it's because of the red card. But after today, I'm sure the system has changed to place KdB further behind and give Silvas more room to move forward. When Pep changes the system back to allow KdB more attacking freedom (i.e. back to what got him 21 assists last year), then I'll consider him again, but for now he's out!

See, this is a well-thought-out response. Many props to you. Despite your argument, which I can agree with, I feel KDB is dangerous and always has the potential for double digits. I'm going to use Lampard as an example- late runs into the box for goals. When you play deeper you can lull the defense and find a lane to ghost in to. KDB will be a top FPL performer this season imo...but I think your logic makes sense

      2. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 8 months ago

Yes, I completely agree with this. He's a terrific asset to City, a team player. The issue here is his current style is not good as an FPL asset. There's no question Eriksen and Alli offer more points potential - possibly Dilva too for less money.

After the tranny window closes and players return from the ints I'll be considering shipping KdB out of nothing more pressing emerges.

Genuinely devastated for Bournemouth. I feel like my team just lost.

Mike Dean needs to apologise to every single Bournemouth player and staff member because that is clear favouritism - clear as day. He gave City a free kick that wasn't a free kick in the City half - he then lets play go on for an additional 2 minutes just because he got a 'pep talk' on the touchline.

The only thing he did right is send off Raheem who was an absolute tool for going near the crowd. But City won't care - the damage has been done. Mike Dean - go bloomin' retire and do us all a favour!

It was absolute, keep an eye out for the angle from behind them (the one Mike Dean had) and it is clear as day.

Not at all. I don't see how anyone can see it any other way.

Bournemouth could have claimed all 3 points themselves too had Dean not blown up for the 'foul' near the end. Bournemouth were 2 on 1 had he not done so.

If he was going to blow-up there, he needs to end the game.

It pisses me off when people like you are giving referee's nonsensical criticism.

Mike Dean did a pretty good job today. He should've given a free kick and a yellow card when Jesus got clattered by Cook, and the free kick against Mousset at the end was wrong.

It's not nonsense. He didn't apply the rules of the game until its resolution.

He's cost a football team 3 points today. And he won't have to answer to anyone for making that mistake.

I'm not a City fan but for all you moaners say 5 mins over stoppage time, take a look at how long the ball was actually in play after the board actually went up

This. I think the officials were talking for over a minute.

Agreed. It's a MINIMUM of 5 minutes, and the ball wasn't back in play from 90th to at least the 92nd...

But the board went up AFTER those discussions. The 5 minutes included all of that touchline stuff.

No - the board went up after but the 5 minutes had been set before.

So why does the dude look at his watch before putting the 5 minutes up? Why not display it before?

KDB won't have a 21 assist season playing that deep and sharing set pieces thats for sure..

KDB to Eriksen done, KDB going down in price and has blanked in 3 relatively easy games.

When KDB starts cooking, you'll be sad you knee jerked. However, Eriksen is a season essential so at least you jerked to him

Read my full comment...? Eriksen is a fine transfer, but I'd prefer to have both (Eriksen and KDB)

No chance I'm taking that price drop, I'll probably wildcard kdb back when he actually gets some points.

Jesus and Kompany out for Kane and Mbemba (or Holgate?) max 4.4.
