Double Gameweek 22 for Spurs and West Ham

The Premier League have sprung an early Christmas surprise on us today, with confirmation that Fantasy managers are set for our first Double Gameweek of the 2017/18 season.

Spurs’ home clash with West Ham, which was due to be played on December 31, has been rescheduled to January 4 due to transport issues.

This means that both clubs will have a blank Gameweek 21 but play twice in the following round of fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will travel to Swansea City on January 2 before hosting the Hammers, who entertain West Brom prior to their trip to Wembley Stadium.

Intriguingly, this also coincides with the availability of the second wildcard of the season, which comes into play after 2pm on December 30 – ie, once the Gameweek 21 deadline has passed.

This could persuade many to load up on Spurs assets, with Harry Kane – up against the current bottom two teams in the Premier League – set to prove a huge armband favourite.

Similarly, the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli could earn extra investment after falling out of favour in recent weeks, with the Free Hit Chip another alternative for those looking to retain their second Wildcard for the double Gameweeks to come.

The Kane strategy will be vital. Those who take the striker into the Christmas period must now decide his fate ahead of a Gameweek 21 blank. There is no question that his ownership will take a significant blow following his Boxing Day match-up with Southampton.

There will, therefore, be an option to reserve the transfers to sell for Gameweek 21 and buy back for his potential two fixtures.

Significantly, the Spurs blank features favourable fixtures for teams boasting viable alternatives to Kane.

Alvaro Morata could possibly start against Stoke City, Roberto Firmino may start against Leicester City at Anfield, Alexandre Lacazette is at West Brom, while the Manchester City duo of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus will go to Crystal Palace.

They could all offer the option to replace Kane for Gameweek 21 as a temporary stop-gap.

However, reserving transfers during this period, which will be heavy for rest, rotation, injuries and suspensions, is perhaps wishful thinking. A points hit is an option, of course, though that will put more pressure on Kane’s starts and returns in Gameweek 22.

An FA Cup Third Round tie, which could possibly follow on Saturday, January 6, throws another variable into the mix. Depending on their opponent, it’s possible that Spurs could put some priority on this and Kane’s minutes in this double Gameweek may ultimately depend on their FA Cup opponents.

Luckily, the draw is 7pm tonight, so if Spurs get a lower-league side, we’d surely bank on Kane getting a full run at both Swansea and West Ham. That would then make the Triple Captain chip an option, though given Kane’s rollercoaster returns so far, that would have to be considered carefully.

The double Gameweek adds another intriguing dilemma into the hectic festive period. While it could be potentially highly profitable for those who commit to Kane, it’s a scenario that clearly needs careful consideration and planning based on the information and trends available nearer the time.

And anyway...what a load of old hogwash "transport issues"....I assume, as it's a Spurs home game, that the vast majority of supporters will be Spurs fans who live in North London anyway...so what are we talking...five miles away?..six?...or in other words about the same distance as most fans around the country have to travel to watch their teams where no tubes exist at all...Just get on a bus, drive or walk like the rest of the country does...

As for the WHM fans having to make their way about ten miles to Wembley... it's still a damned sight easier than travelling to any away game outside the capital...

I sometimes wonder about London folk...

London isn't that easy to get around. Especially when several thousands of people are going to the same place. It's the correct decision.

Do you know what it's like around Old Trafford, Anfield, Etihad etc on a match day...it can take hours to get home...

Like I said they could just be like the rest of the country for one night...just the same...

If it's crowd trouble they're worried about then they should say it.

I'm not having it that Spurs fans can't manage to get from North London to...well...North London under their own steam without being molly coddled on a tube...

Right now in my league 90% of teams have Salah, Kane, Morata, Sterling. So we have very similar squads and I don't have much luck with choosing differentials. Could Haz be solution to my current problem? Even if that would require a hit or two for next week? Or Chelsea game vs WH is covered enough with Morata and Azpi for now and I can wait a week for Haz? Thx!

Don't worry. The reason that you are not having much luck choosing differentials is that your whole squad is its own differential and we tend to see too many patterns in teams which look superficially similar. You only need a couple of different players and/or a different captain pick and points differences can be huge between teams that look very similar on paper. Just choose the strongest squad you can afford and worry about the incremental gains.

Salah because of his form. Everton didn't look that convincing defensively in their last game. Or Hazard because of his form, but West Ham defended well yesterday. A lot of folk will say Kane, who I don't have anymore. He supposedly has an easy fixture, but he lives under a bridge and eats billy goats so I'm not his biggest fan.

Dont usually come here with these sort of questions, but this week im genuinely stuck, best pick for this week?

    Otamendi (man u)
    Shaqiri (spurs)

Fancy city to tighten up and with no pogba united may struggle, and Spurs are out of sorts and Shaq is the main man at stoke, who shall i play?

If in doubt, go with the attacker.

In the midweek games does anyone think there will be nice healthy rests for Alonso and Hazard?

I can see a few faults and have 2 FTs with 0.5m itb.

Please can anyone give me a bit of advice? Don't mind making 3 transfers after the European games for -4

I would get rid of van dijk, lanzini (tough fixtures) and probably choupo as well.

        Thank you.
In my drafts I have done the following:-

        Van Dijk > Sakho
        Lanzini > Ritchie
        Carroll > Richarlison

Sane to Mahrez for a hit? (only Sterling from City in squad then)
