Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

    Hazard -> Özil

    or

    Skrtel -> Koscielny

      leaning toward A, either Ozil/Ramsey for me.

      Hazard looked out of steam last night and Chelsea as a whole were sloppy. I think they'll struggle against WBA.

          WBA can set themselves right against the big clubs. Last home game too. Ingredients for an upset.

    Pick one transfer for the last 2 GWs :

    A) Clyne --> Vergini/O'Shea
    B) Benteke --> Defoe
    C) Boyd --> Larsson/Gomez (bench Hendo for 36)

          that's a risk you have to take if you want in on the Sunderland attack though. Someone has to go...and most of the attacking template has a good game this GW.

    Silva back in during the GW34 wildcard when masses were selling was probably my best WC decision...having done Silva>Sanchez for THAT Leicester game.

    GW34 wildcarders, what was your best WC decision now that we've had a couple of GWs to review.

      Not a gw34 wildcarder but bringing leicester def like morgan and Vardy has paid off really well. My rival played his wildcard very well in gw34. He was 20 points behind me and now leading by 40.

          I sold Terry at 6.6 for Ivan and then decided last minute I liked my team better with Terry so bought him back at 6.9..lost 0.3 on stupidity but it's turned out to be a lot of points of difference

            I've had Ivan for a while and no way is he worth the price, he gets more cards than goals, one of my biggest regrets this season.

      have some regrets - keeping silva was great, but -

      A. Ospina as 2nd gk with Schmeichlel has led to a lot of bench heartache
      B. Ignoring Benteke over Kane
      C. Ignoring Leicester defense altogether with Terry Ivan Skrtel

      1. Shifty
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 19 days ago

        C is the big one. B was something I went with as well, but I would have to sacrifice Silva to get Benteke...so I think I still came out on top there.

        Sterling was the only real regret...literally a coin toss between him and Coutinho.

        I could write a page of what if's . But remember its just a game and soome decisions go and dont go your way. at the time you thought it was the best option.

        The thing is you must live with the choices you make and look forward rather than looking backwards at your regrets

      Best WC decision was losing Silva and bringing Aguero back. I could only have one and City's return to 4-2-3-1 was my reason.

      Good players get hauls sometimes. Not having Silva doesn't faze me in the slightest, you can't have every good player.

    Chelsea rotation potential discussion

    Just had a look over at the Chelsea first team page :-

    http://www.chelseafc.com/teams/first-team/isaiah-brown.html

    The young players Jose is talking about who are a part of the first team squad but have not featured this season are -

    Isiah Brown (Winger/CF)
    Christensen (Defense)
    Nathan Ake (defense)
    Loftus Cheek (midfield)
    Jamal Blackman (GK)

    to that list maybe you could add Solanke as well but he's not on the first team page

    So I see 3-4 changes max for chelsea , I think Terry/Ivan might be okay - I can see hazard definitely coming off the bench if he doesnt start this one... tough call whether to leave him out altogether in fpl or start with a 1st sub

      predicted XI -

      Blackman/Cech
      Christensen Ake Terry Ivan
      Mikel
      RLC Cuadrado
      Solanke

      still missing a mf and a winger...dunno if hes gonna go outside the first team for those, we should have an indication midweek

        You guys are nuts. 😕

        I have said this before and I'll say it just once more. When Jose says "will play" it doesn't mean "will start". He has said before that he will play youngsters (e.g. in CL group stage after having qualified) and that has meant on the bench and subbed on.

        The team will likely be more like this:

        Courtois
        Azpi Zouma/Christensen JT Ake
        RLC Mikel
        Willian Fabregas Cuadrado
        Remy

        Izzy Brown, possibly Solanke and possibly Boga off the bench. Jose is a sentimentalist and will probably let Cech and Drogba play the last (h) game vs. Sunderland.

      Good info. It seems Mourinho is well into planning for next season. He likes the idea of giving players 'experience' and of making sure they're not overstretched (saying of Loftus-Cheek 'It was better for him to play 60 minutes than to stay until the end'). And he'll be selling or loaning out some players too, so the match works as advertising. I'm expecting quite a bit of rotation and definitely time off for Fabregas, Hazard and Willian, who Mourinho says have 'played too much.' A guess at a team line up:

      Beeney/Courtois
      Ivanovic, Aké, Terry, Filipe Luis
      Cuadrado, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Brown
      Remy / Drogba

      Likely subs would be from Cahill, Zouma, Costa, Fabregas, Hazard, Willian, and Solanke. I'm not going to start Hazard.

        Ake is not a CB, he's a LB that can also play DM. He's 5' 10" for Chrissakes, he's never going to be a CB at senior level.

      Silva. Plain as day. As long as you have a decent bench and can do without Eden in GW37.

      You don't want to be without him in GW38. Silva already has his points, City won't be playing QPR again.

      Depends on mini league position.
      Safeguarding a lead means getting the extra Arsenal defender..

        Thank you so much Doosra - of course this wouldn't have been possible if you and Rickardinho hadn't helped me out earlier in the season, especially with my wildcard team! 🙂

          I am not sure about that - you seem to have managed pretty well!!! It is great having you and Simon up there, tussling for it! You will have to join LAWR, next year. 😉

    Got 75 points from 1 game last night. Definitely a PB - what's yours?
    175 points (-4) was my best gw score after the city tgw last year - what's yours?

      Don't know about points from a single game (nowhere near that) but best gameweek was around 170-172.

      I've never got over 100 in a single game week yet. The best I've ever done is 98 last season and 171 in a double.
