The Gameweek 2 Team News

Michail Antonio is available for West Ham’s trip to Southampton. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is expected to be fit for the home clash against Crystal Palace but West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans is a major doubt for an away day at Burnley.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter with Manchester United, though forward Fernando Llorente remains out as he continues to build up his fitness levels after breaking his arm.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe revealed that Jermain Defoe is in contention to start against Watford, after the forward came off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. A late decision will be made on Simon Francis (hamstring).

Daryl Janmaat, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra will all miss the trip to Bournemouth after suffering low-grade muscle injuries in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool. Troy Deeney has returned to full training following a groin injury though, while Christian Kabasele (hamstring) and Brice Dja Djédjé (fractured finger) resumed training in the middle of the week and may be available.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Jonny Evans (hamstring) looks set to miss West Brom’s trip to Turf Moor, while Gareth McAuley (thigh) and James Morrison (knee) remain sidelined.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton will be without Izzy Brown for the trip to Leicester City, after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Daniel Sturridge is expected to be fit for the visit of Crystal Palace to Anfield, but Philippe Coutinho and Nathaniel Clyne both remain out due to back injuries.

Mauricio Pellegrino has a fully fit squad to choose from for Southampton’s home clash against West Ham United, with Ryan Bertrand recovering from a minor knock picked up during the goalless draw with Swansea City.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic will have Michail Antonio available for the trip to Southampton following a hamstring problem, but Manuel Lanzini (knee) will return to training on Monday.

Mark Hughes has confirmed that new signings Bruno Martins Indi, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Jese Rodriguez will all feature in the matchday squad at home to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger welcomes back Per Mertesacker for the trip to Stoke following a facial injury, while the Arsenal boss also revealed that Shkodran Mustafi and Francis Coquelin will be in the squad. Tomorrow’s match is expected to come too soon for Alexis Sanchez (abdominal injury), though.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman revealed club-record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson will undergo tests over the weekend to assess whether he is ready to feature in Monday night’s trip to Manchester City. Sandro Ramirez (heel injury) is a slight doubt after missing last night’s 2-0 win over Hadjuk Split.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Not sure Salah is more logical?

Salah is unproven in this league - he wasn't a success last time out. He did well in his first match, in terms of returns, but his 2 appearances so far have been a bit hit and miss. He is so one footed, and that will cost him in a league where he will have less time to cut inside and shoot.

Lukaku is a tried and tested striker - he managed 25 goals last season, and he is playing against a team United beat comfortably last year, and a team who should have lost by several against Southampton. A team who, imo, are set for relegation.

Guys Newcastles defence is not decimated...

Lascelles is club captain and for all we know first choice. Clark is first choice. Yedlin is back in training.

The line up for Hudds will be

    Mbemba-Lascelles-Clark-Manquillo

Arguably just as good a line up as what we had out last week.

    Bench one:

    A) Cedric
    B) TAA
    C) Kolasinac
    D) JWP
    E) Willian

Currently leaning towards Willian as think Spurs will be hard to break down. But his ceiling obviously much higher than all others. Why didn't I just pick two 4.0 non-playing defenders???

            noun:
            a general agreement.

Only 4,700 people voted for Lukaku.

47% to Lukaku, only 8% for the next choice.

Ok but you claimed that there was a general agreement by 10,000 people.

(Consensus and census don't mean the same thing, and I'm not sure people would agree that 47% is a consensus, hense Netley's reply, "Kind of, Kaku around 50%")

If it was 47% Lukaku and the next closest was 42% I may not have called it such but to me it seems quite an overwhelming amount when compared to 8%.

Census or consensus, I'd say that Lukaku is the preferred choice over any other player as captain choice this week... Will that do?

I think you'll find that hit only becomes an unbreakable consensus at 51.8%.

That's cool. You could have said that to the OP, that's all.

In regards to your point, it's difficult to really know in a first-past-the-post system. All voters who didn't vote Firmino might think that Kane is a better captaincy option than Firmino, for example. Also, we all know the capain poll is skewed by ownership. Lots more people will vote for Lukaku if they own Lukaku than if they don't - and a lot of people own Lukaku. So in answer to the OP, I would say there is no consensus, but I would offer my opinion.

Sorry if this question has been asked before. Curious to know how Zaha hasn't dropped in price yet when he has nearly 300K transfers out? I know he had high % ownership so is it something to do with that % ownership?

Was just about to ask this.

Does the change in flag mean the transfers out required is reset - or does this prevent the price fall?

Slows it down, aka means they need more transfers out.

The flag effects it some how. Increases the number of sales required to initiate the drop. Or something. Bloody annoying isn't it.I sold him Tuesday because I thought he was dropping.

Second best striker in the league playing for what looks like one of, if not the most attacking teams in the league, against one of the worst teams in the league who just conceded the most chances in gw 1 and lost their most influencial player during the week.

Unless I'm missing something it looks fairly clear cut to me. 🙂

Either way you should email me but stick around on this site as you're too valuable here to lose. 😉

I'm opting for Lukaku too, in part because Swansea are so lacking. They could have lost by several against a profligate Saints. I think he is the obvious choice.

That said, United struggled to break down teams that sat deep last season, and I expect Swansea to do that. West Ham were very accommodating - few teams will be so open, and inefficient defensively, this season.

Kane is not to be ignored - Chelsea have no midfield, are missing Cahill, and look strangely out of sorts at the moment. In many ways, they remind me of the team that lost 3-0 to Arsenal (I saw that live and they were dreadful). Kane is also the best striker in the league.

I'd go for Lukaku first, then Kane, and then consider Liverpool attackers and City strikers.
