Community Watch Tournament – Matchweek 1

Welcome to the latest update of the Community Watch Tournament.

Following three weeks of bidding the squads are now in place. All bidding results and squads can be found here. All players are requested to check their email and report to their respective manager if they still haven’t.

TOP BUYS

Let us take a look at the most expensive players.

Greenwindmill (team Salahmon Islands) – 101m : Salahmon Islands manager Boris Bodega was willing to spend more than half his budget to land his top target. With ranks of 63 and 1,925 in two of the last three seasons, can this FFScout mod live up to his price tag?

MrT/TrevFPL (team Kenyaya) – 81m : With three top 10k finishes in three of the last four seasons, he looks set to be a vital member of team Kenyaya. Manager Lawro oversaw competition from GregHammer95 and Jossy to land him.

Lateriser12 (team Grabbangladesh) – 80m : With ranks of 182, 2212 and 77 in three of the last four seasons, it is no surprise that he was the sought after player in his round. He was the first player to be signed by manager JK and looks set to spearhead his team.

Ogie (team Messidonia) – 80m : Ogie has top 1k finishes in each of the last two seasons, including an astonishing rank of 12 last year. Manager AceKn1ght held off competition from Laurent Robert and Az to acquire his services.

Tournament Details

Tournament details, including scoresheet, league table, fixtures, awards and squads, can be found here.

Seven players will start in a Gameweek, including a weekly captain, who will score double points. The remaining players will be on the bench for that Gameweek. The 20 teams will compete in a head-to-head league. A team’s total is the sum of these six player’s FPL scores, with the captain’s score counted as double. Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips will not affect this total.

For each matchweek, the managers are requested to submit their starting 7 and captain before the Gameweek deadline. Failure to submit within the deadline for any matchweek will result in:

1) The players with the best overall rank getting benched.
2) The player with the worst overall rank becoming the captain.

Schedule

October : Matchweeks 1-4
November : Matchweeks 5-8
December : Matchweeks 9-14

Can't we hire a secretary until the end of the tournament to do all the number crunching?

Or is there someone doing that anyway? If so, is there a link to a document that everyone can view which shows the "scores on the doors" from Round 1?

Pretty sure you guys won, the only way we could have won is if Salah got bonus points, which he didn't.
You probably won by about 10-13 points. Great match, tough loss to take for us.

Yes, we weren't overly confident going into Sunday since you had 5 Salahs more than us. Fortunately, he blanked. It could have gone either way, well played and good luck for the rest of the tournament.

Morning lads! Firstly, a note from me...

Apologies for not uploading sooner, whilst it isn't a big job to update the scores, it still involves getting the laptop out and doing it, life takes over etc. The process has been handed to another now too and hopefully between us we'll get some swifter updates out!! I also need to work on a permanent link, until I get that permanent link please note I will be thinking about it still but not mentioning it...

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vu5htV8iMqSpDrlCqqVtD1vN2sqWgexAexSuLdDj8iM/edit?usp=sharing

Interesting first week with a wide variety of scores.

      - Messidonia absolutely smashing it with an average score of nearly 77 points. Fantastic captaincy choice of Tears_For_Fers, 90*2 for him.
      - Biggest score of the week goes to Dream Killers 2.0 of Blindia with 97 points. Taking him from 770k to 63k. Rising from 1.8m the week before. Clearly the form player of the tournament.
      - As alluded to above, massively tight game between Hungary Neville and Ibeland, Ibeland eventually taking it 549 points against 548.
      - Top of the league this week on points difference though is Mozampique with the romping of Germane 600 to 482. 118 points between the two sides. Let's just say I'm happy Matagascar avoided that fixtures this week with a lowly 467 points. Our boys will be back stronger after the IB.
      - Lastly, I won't mention this every week but seems needed. Kenyaya with the wooden spoon. 425 points between them.
      - Manager of the week award yet to be assigned.
      - Post of the week - (This one's been decided by me this week (no shame)... http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/09/28/community-watch-tournament-matchweek-1/?hc_page=2#hc_comment_16608195

      BREAKING NEWS!

There is chaos is Salah-mon Islands as the entire population has begun rioting. Every single statue, bust and other likenesses of their 'false' god has been pulled down and destroyed, effigies of the man who inspired the national motto 'To Score is To Serve' are going up in flames.

'All that Salah needed to do was get a goal," said one renegade, called Hugh J'Peejarmus, "Even an assist would have done it. Two bleedin' bonus points!".

Sad days in Salah-mon Islands, the referendum to rename themselves Kane-mon Islands starts on Wednesday week, after elevenses.

      Tournament update!

So after a bit of deliberation and pondering with a unanimous vote then following among the managers, we've decided that those not actively taking part in the tournament (players) are going to be axed. This is due to the nature of the tournament having community at the heart of it and clearly if you're not at all involved then it takes away some of the fun. If you're a player and haven't been in contact with your manager then please do so before 10th October 2017 23:59pm BST. If you're having trouble doing this contact us on fantasycommunitywatch@gmail.com.

This means however that the tournament is open to new entries which is great for any that missed out and want to be a part of this tournie! Please read the following then use the link to apply!

      https://footballorbust.wordpress.com/community-watch-application/

      - We will be replacing players that have a similar as possible season history to the axed players. This is to ensure fairness for all teams, because of this there will be no bidding on these players.
      - Players will join whichever team they're assigned to by us.
      - Managers can not release these players to get a different player instead.
      - Deadline for new applicants is also 10th October 23:59pm BST so please get your entry in ASAP if you want to be a part of it
      - At the moment we're looking for players at a variety of season history's so there's a chance you'll get a place whatever your history.
      - Lastly, not everyone applying will be "picked" due to the fact we're going to try and match players to the axed players as closely as possible.

Any questions please let us know either here or on the above email address.

      Thanks,

      CW!

        Hi!

So quick overview. I would say read the articles but I'm feeling helpful...

        - FFScout are not running this and it is run by members of the community, for the community.
        - No prizes but good to get the community going and interactivity etc. Good banter and that.
        - All that's required is you get in contact with your manager and he/she selects the best 7 out of 10 in his team including a captain each week.
        - All else that's required is you play FPL, no obligation to make transfers based on this tournament of course but it helps open up a channel of advice too. So your team may choose to help you out etc.

Any other questions let me know.

A point I would like to make to the organizers of this tournament.

I believe that the teams that are level on points (h2h league points and not FPL points) should not be sorted on the basis of points difference, as is being done currently (as per the league table in CW_master spread sheet). I believe that this method is not fair.

In the Premier League or any other similar tournament, its fair to resolve a tie based on the basis of Goal difference, because the performance of a team is responsible for the amount of goals it scores and concedes. This does not hold true for this CW tournament. A team has absolutely no role to play in how many points their opponents have scored, and thereby judging a team's performance on the basis on points difference is not fair.

Example using the first round of fixtures
      Blindia 598 - 553 Georgia Boyd
      Gabboniadini 564 - 515 Grabbangladesh

Here, its oblivious that Blindia were better than Gabboniadini, but the league table has Gabboniadini 5th and Blindia 6th bcoz the winning margin for Gabboniadini was 49 as compared to Blindia's 45. Ask yourselves if this is fair....

I would suggest that in case of teams level on league points, they should be sorted in descending order of the TOTAL POINTS SCORED and not the points difference; since A TEAM PLAYS ABSOLUTELY NO ROLE IN THE AMOUNT OF POINTS THEIR OPPONENTS SCORED.

      Open to feedback.............

Also just checked the FPL H2H rules and it reads
"n the event of a tie between teams, the team who has most game points will be positioned higher"

100% agree - previous tournaments were done this way - no idea why they changed it for this.
