FPL Gameweek 36: March replacements, Isak or Wilson?

Here, five-time top 1k finisher Tom Freeman shares his current squad and discusses how he’s going to use his transfers in Double Gameweek 36.

... 2

CURRENT TEAM

The squad felt like it was in decent shape when I set up my ‘bus team’ on Saturday afternoon, armed with two free transfers and £0.8m in the bank. The original idea was to focus on bringing in additional players from Brighton and Newcastle, in turn, tripling up on both sides for Double Gameweek 36.

However, a benching, followed by an injury to Solly March (£5.3m) has forced me to rethink my plans. In his pre-match interview, Roberto De Zerbi said “Solly March is not in his best moment [for fitness]”. The winger did come on at half-time but was later substituted with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, potentially ruling him out for a while.

I don’t know. We are enduring a very tough period with injuries but I don’t want to speak about this.” – Roberto De Zerbi on Solly March’s injury

It’s a shame, as March has made a real impact as a second-half substitute against Man Utd and Everton in the past week. I also liked his zonal matchups against Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.1m) and Dan Burn (£4.5m) in Double Gameweek 36 (more on that later), but it’s highly likely he’ll now need to be moved on. But who is the best replacement? I’ll run through a few of the options I’m considering below.

MARCH REPLACEMENTS

A sideways move to Brighton team-mate Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m) is one option, but it perhaps feels a bit uninspiring at this stage of the season.

His output has been disappointing of late, with one assist in six, a period that has seen him miss four big chances. He’s still getting the ball in dangerous areas, but versatile midfielder Pascal Gross (£5.4m) might be a better play.

He’s owned by just 0.17% of managers inside the top 100k, compared to Mitoma’s 86.48%, and since the World Cup, ranks fourth among all FPL midfielders for created chances and expected assists (xA).

    Start one:

    A) Steele (ars, new)
    B) Kepa (NFO)

Leaning towards Kepa as Steele might not play both games if they concede a lot against Arsenal...

I'm leaning towards Kepa too. My fear is Steele may only play one of the 2 games (and a CS looks unlikely in either).

Steele. Yes he'll concede for sure, but think a lot are forgetting how poor Chelsea have been because of one win (and they still conceded there too). Steele will get save pts and there's the theory that teams that get a hammering tend to focus on tightening up first and foremost after that. I'm not sure if RDZ is exactly that way inclined but I would like to think he'll certainly want to deal with some of the glaring issues against Everton

Got a narrow lead over 2nd and 3rd in my cash league and we all have very similar teams. Stuck between the options below. I like the Wilson/Isak double up so definitely going that way. Is itt oo early to be covering rivals' players?

A.Watkins & March to Mac & Wilson for -4 Bench Grealish
B.Watkins and Pinnock to Wilson & TAA for -4 (2nd place has TAA as main differential that concerns me) Bench Grealish
C.Watkins to Wilson for free, bench March and play Grealish

    Current team
    --------De Gea-----
    Shaw-Trippier-Estup
    March-Mitoma-Salah-Rashford
    Watkins-Isak-Haaland

    Grealish-Pinnock-Castagne-Raya

Should I do March to Mac Allister for free if it means having to bench Bruno? My front 8 is currently:

    Salah - Bruno - Rashford - Mitoma - March*
    Haaland - Isak - Wilson

Morning all. One of the few fortunate enough not having to deal with March - 2FT's and 0.5itb.

Like most I am planning on Watkins to Isak or Wilson, and with a decent bench this week I can be confident in just using the one, to enable 2FT's in to GW37 (loose plan is to bring in KDB). Team for this week is currently:

    Steele (or could play Kepa)
    TAA Botman Trippier
    Rashford Mitoma Gakpo
    Kane Halland Isak/Wilson

Quite a strong bench in Maddison, Grealish and Shaw - v tempted to start Maddison for this one, but on Gakpo currently.

    Thoughts appreciated.

Is March to Ødegaard with Watkins to Ferguson, to afford it, a good idea for the run in?

    I've got 2 FTs.

I don't think Brighton players for the double holds the same weight anymore.

        Yeah,

I've got Isak and Haaland and will probably bench Ferguson to play a midfield of ...

Salah, KDB, Rashford, Mitoma and Ødegaard if I do this.

Unless I should move on March and KDB with two free transfers?

Not to overreact based on Mondays results, but there are some great March replacements not named McAllister: JWP, MGW, even McNeil after this city fixture. It’s hard to go against the DGW picks but could be fruitful with only three gameweeks to go and these players fighting for PL survival

Exactly! Perhaps it's time to bring in a few players who are in the middle of a relegation fight and spice it up. Everybody knows that occasionally DGW is a trap, but now it depends on how much of a risk-taker you are.

What you should do is use all your knowledge gained over the season and do your honest score predictions for the g/w.
Then look back at your team and you may have some better clarity to counter the dg/w goggles.

Another red arrow but still hopeful of getting a top 100k finish *crosses fingers*

Dunno what I'm gonna do with Solly March, may move to Mitoma or Mac Allister for a hit but we'll see...

Anyway enough of me, what you up to? Who you putting the armband on? Haaland or a DGW player? Whatever you do, whatever moves you make I hope it goes well and the points flood in...

I hear that! You could say the same for Manchester City too 😆

I know Forest have a far better home form than away, but even with the -10% Lampard effect added Chelsea still make the top 3 this week :O

Forest aren't safe yet and will have something to play for, so I don't blame you tbh but Brentford are playing a team who are massive everywhere they go, so I'm glad I've got the choice of DDG or Raya and it won't be Raya for me 😀

probably not but I expect them both to get a good chunk of game time between both games

I'm going Isak. Was on Wilson but from the bit I saw (last 30 mins) and what I read, seemed like Wilson was barely involved while Isak tried his best at LW then looked a lot better in the few mins he had at CF. Starting to wonder a bit if Wilson may simply start the GW37 game and Isak starts both DGW ones. All depends on how Howe sees each game though

I'd lean Wilson, but to be fair to him, that's how all his games look. He's very much a poacher and doesn't look involved most of the game and will just turn up with a goal out of seemingly nothing

Isak seems to be first choice and has a better chance of starting both games, so I’d lean towards him.

    Who to play?

    A) Estupinan (ARS A, NEW A)
    B) Martinelli (LEI A)

Surely Martenelli is Brighton at home?

If you get TAA in the mix, still bench Estu?

Definitely, huge potential v Leicester, didn't see yesterday's game but they were dreadful last week v Everton

Feels really strange for me to bench Grealish and Mahrez - but anyone see another option?

    Steele

    TAA/Shaw/Estu/Tripps

    Mitoma/Salah/Rashford

    Isak/Wilson/Haaland

    Kepa/Grealish/Mahrez/Castagne

No. I think you trapped yourself by having too good a choice.

I'd maybe bench TAA, but that feels even more wrong. Leeds are fighting for a relegation spot so I would imagine they'll score at least one... but then again TAA doesn't need a CS to get points.

I think you are good to go.

      Yeah

      Bench Trippier and Mitoma instead.

I would personally bench Estupinan here.

I know they have 2 matches, but they will face Arsenal and Newcastle (both away) after having shipped 5 against Everton yesterday.

Think all of your players bar Castagne will outscore him.

You already have Steele in goals so I'd bench Estu. No need for double Brighton defence considering the fixtures

      Id bench Estu

Thanks all for advice - looks like ill go down the route of benching Estu - and decide on either Grealish or Mahrez after tonight

Wolves have kept 10 clean sheets at home in the PL this season - no side has more!

Draft league question. Which 2 would you rather have for ROS:
    a) Son
    b) Antony
    c) Gross

Question. What is a draft league?

it's a weird set up we have where out 5-team ML can't have duplicate players - so my options are much poorer than normal leagues!

Thoughts on below moves - I have exact funds to do either one of these:

A - Watkins and Stones to Wilson and Trent
B - Watkins and Grealish to Wilson and Bruno Fernandes

    Kepa
    Stones - Estup - Trip
Salah - Rash - Mitoma - Mac allister - Grealish
    Isak - Haaland

    (Raya - Watkins - Shaw - Mee)

With March injury, should I just move him to Joelinton and bank the other FT?
Or stick to the plan and do Watkins to Wilson?

    Steele
    Trippier Estupinan Trent
    Salah Rashford Grealish Martinelli March
    Haaland Isak
    (Raya Shaw Watkins Castagne)

I would reconsider the midfield replacement if going down that route.
