The Community Round Up

A certain Dutchman, misfiring premium midfielders and the Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points System’s (BPS) love affair with centre-backs dominated discussions among the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. We also catch up with the latest goings-on in the community leagues taking place this season.

Hottest Topics

A look at the top ten FPL points scorers  does not contain a single midfielder; a worrying development for those Fantasy managers used to premium midfielders dominating the game. The fate of expensive midfielderS has been a key discussion this week with QPR Expects…Glory among the pessimists who believe the premium midfield era is over and it is time to invest in centre backs instead. Arsene’s Boys, however, is more optimistic, pointing out that we are just two games into the season. In addition many of last year’s star midfielders such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla failed to perform early on, he notes.

As premium midfielders fail to excite us there is now plenty of interest in centre-backs. But is their dominance of the bonus points shortlived? Jamsiep, wonders whether we are experiencing a false dawn, due to a lower than average number of goals being scored this season. His excellent post suggests that centre-backs may not be so fortunate when the goal rate picks up.

Still on the same subject, SAAB has been considering that many of the league’s most attacking teams simply do not have a suitable midfield option for Fantasy managers. He points out that teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa currently just have forwards worth our consideration.

If Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United could he match Robin Van Persie’s expected returns? King Nemanja’s  analysis of Rooney and RVP performances together last season provides interesting reading for those looking for a cut-price root into Manchester United’s attack.

Owning Van Persie obviously makes captaincy decisions much easier. But for those looking to mix up their armband selection, Impressive Tackle has compiled this handy long term guide to the best non-RVP captains available  all the way up to Gameweek 20.

Finally, Isacki has been taking a look  at price changes and reckons it is far tougher for players to rise in price this season. His analysis also takes a look at the time price changes kick in and how ownership level and flags influence price falls.

Community Leagues

Heels Over Head’s Worst to First 2Million+Club league, which is open to anyone who has an overall rank below 2 million during one of the first five Gameweeks, is currently topped by Gokyo Locos who rose more than 700,000 places on his long march to the top. The code to join this FPL league 459213-545168.

Patrick Star retains his lead in Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league, with a score of 154, closely followed by Messimerized with 151. In joint third on 144 points are MB10 and Somebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up.

Thomass67 and Peppie and Felix’s  league is split into three  groups and topped by Thomass, Daniel and Forca Inter.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues are ENR, RDB007, Forca Inter, Mind Over Mata and Chazza.

Forca Inter also topped Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing and Early Bird leagues. In the Early Bird league, 349 managers remains after 200 were knocked out, while in the Last Man Standing League, 995 are left after 43 Fantasy managers were sent packing. Entries are still open for the Early Bird League.

In the FFS UEFA leagues, Tommy Tour, the manager of Real Madrid, registered the highest score of the round, with a haul of 75 points.

The most closely fought battle in the week was in their Bundesliga league where The Shadow beat Jack off Attack by just one point. Elsewhere in their leagues , The Light Knight’s Norwich continued to maintain a stronghold on FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour Award, opted to those who make the most left field choices. He opted for a 5-2-3 formation, which saw both Leighton Baines and Emmanuele Giaccherini pitching in with nine points each. His cumulative score, 67 points, was more than enough to beat the dullard team of his unfortunate opponent Jonty by 11 points.

Some late FFS UEFA news that missed last week’s round up from Gameweek 1 involved the group’s second Super Cup, in which 2012/13’s Europa League winner Acquafresca emerged triumphant 88-76 against last season’s Champions League winner MJ6987.

Meanwhile, the The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) comes to a grand finale this week with the TWS End of Season Party on Monday  September 2nd at 20:00 BST, in which team vacancies will be filled by auto-select in a live interactive draw, leaving each team’s fate up to their random number selection. The Shadow‘s Norwich is hotly pursued by a chasing pack of Zep‘s Arsenal, PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham and 4Vets‘ Liverpool. FFS UEFA also tell us that a brand new competition will be launched immediately after the TWS concludes.

In Doosra and Ginkapo’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition the main league leader is still Back on the Horse. Meanwhile, the leaders of their H2H leagues are: TommyTour, Turbo Dog, MsRed19, Beric, Doolittle, Dino, Konig Luther.

In a "primary rainbow", the arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner side. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted while entering a droplet of water, then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it.
      Now that's confusing 3vets !

Anyone feeling that there actually won't be many goals in the North London derby this time round.

Spurs look more defensively solid than ever and could well keep Arsenal out. At the other end, the likes of Chadli and Soldado are still getting to grips with the Premier League so may not create too many chances.

    Silva v Walcott this week.

Took a snap shot of defending stats for Hull and Spurs and attacking stats for Silva and Walcott over the last two gameweeks.

    Silva

Hull have conceded the second most attempts from outside the box (20) but conceded the second lowest 'big chances' with only 2.

Man City have attempted more shots from inside the box than any other team as well as having more shots on target than any other team.

Silva has averaged 2.5 attempts in the box, with an attempt every 29.5 minutes.

Silva has created a chance for a team mate also every 29 minutes.

    Walcott

Tottenham have conceded the joint fewest attempts on goal inside the box with Everton (6) and also the second fewest outside the box also with 6.

Arsenal have the third most attempts inside the box with 21 shots 12 of which have been on target.

Walcott has averaged 2.0 attempts in the box, with an attempt every 31.8 minutes.

Walcott has created a chance for a team mate every 27.3 minutes.

    Conclusion

Tottenham's defense is solid although granted it has been against toothless opposition. Also Walcott had poor GW1 figures by his standards which skews the figures.

In the Head to Head Silva clearly has the edge in all but one of the key stats and is against perceived weaker opposition.

Nothing new to see here, but just thought a brief conclusion may help some to decide. In my opinion Silva is the better option this week.

Bale was terrible LB defensively caught OOP sooo many times 🙂 But I agree Danny Rose has great pace, worth noting that Walcott definately hogged the touchline more in GW2 away from home and played far more centrally at home. Will be interesting to see where exactly Walcott plays this week.

Is good to see this because it confirms something I've been banging on about since before the GW2 deadline, that Silva's goal threat has increased and the stereotype that he only gets assists will bite those who stay off him this year. Indeed here it's slightly better than Walcott who is possibly the biggest midfield goal threat in the absence of Bale, though I expect Walcott to beat Silva for shots over the season because he's basically used as a second (wide) striker.

I think away goals is a stupid rule tbh. I don't see why it matters where the goals are scored. If you're tied after the second leg, you should be tied, not have one team win because they tied 1-1 away and 0-0 at home or lost 2-1 away and won 1-0 at home. I don't see any difference

Back in the 70's maybe? teams used to play super defensive away and try and win the second leg at home, made for really shitty games.
It makes teams come out away from home, that's the thinking anyway, it's a decent rule if you ask me.

fair point but generally I think it works well, although I do fondly remember United doing a job on Barca with a Scholsey belter at OT a few year back, scored in about the 5th minute and we sat on it for the remainder, made it to Moscow and then terry slipped, beautiful 😉

I get the impression from a lot of posters on here that it is important at this stage to improve or at least protect your team value.

My team value looks to be going down the pan, with Grandin going down tonight and Foster and Toure commencing their respective price rots.

Adding to that, looks as though im missing the Silva train and will have to get him at a high price.

All this taken into account, does this justify the (dare i say) WC or even just a hit to do Grandin -> Silva?

Silva isn't exactly explosive. solid 5-6 points with the odd 8-9 thrown in.
Its not like missing Bale last year.
Who in God's name is Grandin 😯

points are more important than value. If Grandin > Silva is obtainable within -4, then obviously it ought to pay off, but Silva's value doesn't matter because he's worth 9.5 anyway if he's in form and with everyone having Theo he's probably not going to be out of your price range.

With all this said I'm on WC and chasing a few risers at the moment, but I'm mainly doing it because I think this is a week where I could gain a huge amount of ground after a bad start.

Dont be silly. Even if they won 19/19, Utd, Chelsea City etc. might still keep with touching distance.
Technically to win after 19 weeks, every other side woyld have to lose every game.
Bearing in mind, 2 teams cant lose the same match (unless they play in Italy and theyre both fixing it 😉 )
Even then, it wouldn't be 100% tied up as barca could then lose 19/19 and another win 19/19.

Struggling with my team this week especially as none of my bench will play, zero in bank and not sure what transfer to do. Thinking either Brayford to Ward or Terry to Vidic, what do people think?

    Mignolet,
    Koscielny, , Turner, Shaw,
Snodgrass, Walcott, Silva, Mirallas, Ravel Morrison
    Aguero, Sturridge

    Harper, Brayford, Terry, Benteke

As unglamourous as it sounds, Brayford to Ward is maybe your best option. You need to get rid of Brayford and Morrison asap so makes sense to do the former this week and give yourself 11 starters (4-4-2)

I think it would be good to have head to head captains polls or something, because obviously Aguero or RVP would be at the top if it is just who would you captain out of anybody. But for those of us with the dilemma of Walcott/Silva/Soldado, Id love to see a poll just for them
