The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

I can transfer Mirallas out for a non-dropping player, then buy him back cheaper tomorrow right?

Will have a brief rant. Got to say I'm mystified of this England media bandwagon saying Michael Carrick is the answer to our inability to keep the ball. He's effective in his club position but if there's one lesson you'd learn from watching England, that means nothing. Did anyone else watch our awful draw with Poland last autumn when we were completely outpassed in midfield and Carrick was pressed to death? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19971633

More to the point, it's not like Carrick's never been given a chance by England. His first appearance was in 2001 and he's had 29 appearances in the intervening 12 years. At no point in that time were we ever praised for keeping the ball.

I think it's just lazy kneejerk journalism to be honest. "Michael Carrick has hit some good passes for United" = "Michael Carrick will get England playing tiki taka".

No one player will save England.

You had me at 'Michael Carrick is the answer' to anything...Pathetic player that was able to hide behind a brilliant manager for years, hopefully his questionable ability will be shed to light soon and he will be relegated to a bench role following the arrival of Marouane F.

Pretty much. Also you can't play the passes without the movement. We're so static, so square. I wonder if even Xavi would do much better in our central midfield.

Betfer than Lampard imo yeah, don't see any significant difference with Gerrard who was probably our best player at Euro 2012 and has a terrific passing range. Plus we'd be buggered without Gerrard's crosses which must provide a third to a half of our goals.

Yh Gerrard offers more to the team than Lampard. I would say that Gerrard is often culpable for speculative passes that just don't come off. But it's hard to do anything when Roy is playing a flat 5 in midfield. It is so defensive to play that against Ukraine...

A quick evaluation would be really appreciated: Team 1 or team 2?

    Team 1:

    GK: Mignolet (Davis)
DEF: Zabaleta, Coleman, Koscielny (Chester) (McNaughton)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho, Silva, Brady (Colback)
    ATT: Soldado, Sturridge, Giroud

    1.2 mil in the bank.

    Team 2:

    GK: Mignolet (Davis)
DEF: Zabaleta, Shaw, Koscielny (Chester) (Ward)
MID: Walcott, Lampard, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Soldado, Giroud

    0 in the bank.

If it were based purely on which side were better -> which side would you choose?
Then considering that a WC would be used in reaching team 2, is it still worth it?

Thanks - any advice appreciated 🙂

Hi gents, can i get some opinions?

    boruc (foster)
    coleman ivan chester (murner ward)
    wally tarabt coutinho miralas (kim)
    soldado lambert dzeko

    A: miralas + dzeko >> brady + Rvp (-4)
    B: ivan + dzeko >> fonte + Rvp (-4)
    C: ivan + miralas + dzeko >> koscielny + barfa + Rvp (-8)

All three options have their merits and cons.
A - bring in two players who have good fixtures and get rid of miralas. but will have a mid with crap fixtures next week

B - get rid of ivan as he has lots of funds tied up in him. However i will rather 5.4 for a big hitter i.e. koscielny to play every gw as opposed to a 4.9 def to rotate

C - dont like 8 point hits but this one could work as i expect arsenal def to do well

I think Lamela will be more of a goal threat from the wing with Eriksen in a "playmaker" central role (more assists). But it's all speculation until we get an insight into AVB's new plans. I guess going for Lamela means you'll easily be able to downgrade if he isn't firing.

Are people benching Coleman this week?

Despite his attacking threat I can't see myself playing him over my Southampton/Fulham or even West Ham defenders.

      Coleman on my bench, yes.

I reckon chelsea under mourinho to get a cleansheet against anyone home or away. (obviouslly wont happen lol) but what im saying is i'd rather play a chelsea defender - i've got ivanovic away instead of coleman home in my starting 11.

I'm playing him over Collins. I'm not expecting much but he's always got a chance for some attacking points. I'd agree that I'd play a defender with a good home fixture over him though

He has no place. He has only played because of injuries/illness and suspensions. The back line is Sagna-Mert-Kos-Gibbs. Jenks will fall further down the order when Verm is back.

Sagna is secure because Jenks is the only replacement, Gibbs is more like 80% because Monreal is a good player and is back from injury, but Gibbs is the better left back, and should be playing. If you're going for a full back, Gibbs is your man because Sagna can't cross, but I'd recommend a centre back because they get the bonus points. Mertz or Kos are both good.
