The Community Round Up

The availability of Diego Costa, European exertions and the impressive Gameweek 8 points hauls of the likes of Dusan Tadic and Sergio Aguero were among the key topics under discussion this week. In this latest round-up we look back at all the best community chatter as well as look back at this week’s community articles, members tables and star turns in our various leagues and tournaments.

The Community Articles

Our community writers hopped over the English channel this week to investigate how European competition involvement influences Premier League sides. Kesh took a look at the lessons to be learned from Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Anderlecht, while Ludo published this excellent analysis of whether there really is such a thing as a Europa League hangover.

West Brom may not have European involvement but are still a side to interest our community scribes. Among The Puntmaster‘s trio of punts this week is Baggies defender Sebastien Pocognoli. Meanwhile, West Brom were among the hottest properties going into Gameweek 9 in both attack and defence, according to The Sarjeant’s latest form gauge.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Will he or won’t he? This is the key question being asked on Diego Costa’s chances of making this weekend’s clash with United. Chelsea boss Joe Mourinho has been known to favour more than just the occasional mind game and revealed earlier today that his star striker has “a very little chance” of making it. Given the uncertainty, some community managers, such as Chris_ White, have already transferred out the striker as we discovered in our discussion on the Costa dilemma.

Rickardinho has also been looking at Costa exit strategies and served up this excellent pros and cons post on ditching him and drafting in Sergio Aguero for a hit. Dusan Citizen was another to sing the praises of City’s Argentine this week. He wonders whether given his startling recent form he could even be granted the accolade of being this season’s version of Luis Suarez.

If Diego Costa fails to make this weekend’s game his price will surely plummet, although it may take quite a few more absences to qualify for Wakey’s Falling Stars team, made up of those whose price has fallen below their initial price tag. Wakey gave us an update on how his falling stars from Gameweek 8 performed and showed that there are plenty of bargans to pick up. His Gamweek XI achieved an impressive haul of 70 pts, 21 above the average with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Everton’s Phil Jagielka among his top performers.

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic was another to enjoy a stellar Gameweek 8: he duly delivered on his promising underlying statistics with a 23-point haul. Such was his impact that Seb 10 asked whether Tadic now deserves “essential” status. Demi is not convinced and wants to see further evidence, while O’Shaughnessy believes he is the best mid-priced midfielder based on his data and last weekend’s tally.

Another player to flirt with that hallowed essential status is Everton’s Leighton Baines. He was also a principal guest the points party, notching an impressive haul of 15 in Gameweek 8. However, Costra Nosta warns against forgetting the attacking threat of his fellow Everton full back Seamus Coleman.

For those that had Aguero, Tadic and Baines in their team a bit points total was inevitable, prompting E6 Hammers to take a stroll down memory lane to look back on some similarly impressive high-scoring game weeks of yesteryear.

Saniul was the winner of this week’s search for a community Scout Pick champion and has a huge gap of more than 100 points to help the community make up over top placed Paul.

This week we also announced that the champion who manages the best Gameweek score (or best score from the first ten matches in a double Gameweek) will win a £100 Amazon voucher. While we’re at it, a reminder that, from Monday, our weekly search for a champion will be via a community article rather than a hot topic.

The Members Tables

Goalkeeper’s prowess was the subject of 46612’s table, which is filtered by “saves made”, while Doosra has been looking at fierce foragers, his term for forwards that hold onto the ball.

Meanwhile, Sleep Talk has been assessing goalscoring defenders over their last four matches, a table sorted by shots in the box.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The Tinkerman is clinging on to the lead of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league and now sits in 439th overall in FPL. Mark is closing in and is now just two points off the lead after his strong post-Wildcard Gameweek.

Rasping Drive was another to enjoy a bountiful weekend. He is in 32nd overall in FPL and sits proudly atop the Puffinboy Memorial Cup for veteran posters, the FFS Old Farts Club for our posters of advancing years as well as the FFS Dead Zone league.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, ADAMS_6  hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 127. There are now 1054 teams left after 63 were eliminated.

Elsewhere, ENR dropped by to deliver this update on all the latest ups and downs in the FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup themed tournament.

That's a good one. My turn. Sterling cameo, Pelle gets injured, Baines misses a pen and Everton concedes, Arsenal get shut out......

It's between him and Distin until new year when Stones is back. It's his to lose but certainly not nailed on. Nice price though so decent punt.

    Cahill Clyne PVA Chester Moore

My defence is awful. I have 1FT and 0.1M in bank. Can I fix this crap with one 1FT or do I need a hit?

    1 - PVA/Chester --->Hutton/Chambers
    2 - DDG --->Guzan
    3 - PVA/Chester ---->Hutton + Lloris (-4)
    4 - DDG + Cahill --->Guzan + Baines (-4)

This isn't the season to make such decisions for the sake of .1m.

His ownership will destroy you if he scores big.

Probably true. But I bought him back at 11 so I figured if he didn't play against United I'd be looking at a .2-.3 fall. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

It is true. If the most owned & captained player scores big and you don't even own him you will be looking at the biggest red arrow of the season. 😉

That said he might not even play so it might be all good. You will no doubt want him for QPR though.

If you bought Costa at the start then you can watch his price fall .3mil & it'll only set you back .1mil in his selling price.

Now, if he misses Sunday then, be quick on that transfer button b/c that'll surely mean another huge drop.

Longer term Robertson. He's a doubt this weekend but is away at Liverpool anyway. Playing OOP on left of midfield.

      Chambers, Wilson, Dummett, Hutton

Also lots of interest in Alcaraz. Stones out until new year so it's between him and Distin.

Should all rotate well with Wisdom

(You can do a Google search & newspapers have written similar articles too)
Although, I can't see where we'd ever get that kind of info free.

FFS gets a set rate for their data (fantasy relevant stats) & the larger media outlets would pay another (broadcast level stuff, like distances traveled).

MF and defence are fairly weak to be honest. Depends which players you got earlier in the season/what price you can sell them. I wouldn't pick ADM on a WC now for instance, even though I currently own him myself. You could argue to keep him in your WC if you got him a while ago though. I'd be looking at a Chelsea mid and/or Sanchez if poss, and try and squeeze Baines/Jagielka in there

I've had ADM since his first game , the joys of being a United fan. I was looking at Behraino as it give me 2 mill to play around with , my team value is 100.5

          • 14 Years

I'd prob go Behraino and maybe stick with ADM cos you get slightly less if you sell him vs someone who'd recently got him, and also cos you're a dirty red. See if you can squeeze the likes of those 4 I mentioned earlier into your team

What's your team value? If it's low-ish, maybe downgrade Welbeck to Behraino/Sakho and spend the extra on beefing up defence and MF

      Sanchez for sure.

I don't think AdM has that in him at all. The others though, I'm with you. Sterling could do at some point when Sturridge is back. I could also see a game where Lamela goes bonkers and has a hatty at some point this year too.

Not sure about Sterling yet...No doubt about his quality but he still seems to flap in front of goal...He's improving year an year and will be one of the best in Europe, but there's a lot more to come in his finishing...

GTG saving an FT? I have 1M ITB

    Bego
    Chambers Clyne Hutton
    Siggy (v) ADM Fab Sterling
    Costa Welbeck Aguero (c)

    Subs: Duff, Moore, Boyd

Anything pressing? Think I need rid of Bego

While I agree getting rid of Stoke makes sense with their upcoming sched I don't know if I'd like to buy Southampton either.

GW13 onward takes a turn for the worse.

Depends on who it's for & if you're able to *100%* save your FT for next week too?

There are examples of guy taking hits in the 100's & making the Top 10k.

It's not *typical* but, it's not unheard of either.

Basically its to accomodate Aguero to be alongside Costa and Pelle while keeping Fab Siggy Ster and ADM. I already have 2 ft

I wouldn't worry about keeping Siggy.
He's not been putting up the numbers of late (I think he's had 2 shots in the last 4 weeks?)
Outside of that, go for it... it's a game after all.

Fortune favours the brave & all that.

You're right but, the month following for Swans is just brutal.
Not saying you *have to sell*...
Just making the point that if you're doing a -12 then you should consider the long term prospects of everyone involved.

Very true very true. So naylor should be out of the question then as well?

                  Umm, no not necessarily.
We can *hide* defenders for poor stretches, right?
So, sitting Naylor for a week here or there isn't as bad as having to play Siggy vs. Eve, Ars, Che, City & Spurs in the next 10 weeks.

                    Here's where im at:
                    Lloris Guzman
                    Naylor Baines Wisdom Clyne Duff
                    Tadic Fab Sterling ADM Boyd
                    Welbeck Costa Pelle

                    For a -16 with .3 itb

Worth it? or should I turn Tadic into Eriksen/Chadli or find some way to fit Aguero in? I'm wary of Aguero as he'll be tired from his trip to russia.

Guessing you don't have your WC...

Ok, so here's the deal if you're taking such a big hit.
You shouldn't have any doubts this week & also be able to save your FT next.

As it stands, Costa & Aguero are both doubts in your mind so, idk what to tell you?

Wait, I've got a few bits of advice drop Guzan or Lloris b/c that's too much spent on keepers.

I'd say just go with Guzan & a 4mil keeper & the extra money will help big time elsewhere.

Then, play around some more & post team's telling people it's your WC. (or else they'll flip out with a hit like this)

Finally, I love Boyd, Baines, Wisdom, ADM, Tadic, Fab, Pelle & Welbeck too.

NP. Like I said just play around a bit...
You've got a great base it just needs some tweaking.

I'm sure the guys you bing in can outscore the one's you're shipping out by 16pts come the Jan WC too.

(Final note: Look at Southampton's sched GW13 onward... defender wise, gulp)

Not having Costa in my team is giving me nightmares.
I keep checking my team and trying to find decent ways to get him back in.
I think it might have been a mistake ditching him for Augero earlier this week, I just felt a bit greedy about the prices.
