The Community Round Up

Some early Christmas shopping took place this week as the community’s articles and hot topics prepared for the congested festive fixture schedule. We also discover why Diego Costa will be hoping opposition defenders hold back on their Christmas feasting and take an in-depth look at the different types of front men currently plying their trade in the top-flight. There’s also time to catch up on the latest statistics in our members tables and recall one of the week’s most heart-warming posts about a young lad’s first ever football match.

The Community Articles

From the shot shy to the trigger happy, and the most accurate to those whose shots end up in row Z, Owd Big Ed’s epic piece of research took a look at the different types of strikers from a Fantasy point of view.

Forwards, specifically those with a kind price tag, were also the focus of AZ’s latest article, while Buffrey has taken a look at scoring from a defensive perspective to see which type of player is more likely to breach Premier League teams’ backlines. The Puntmaster will be hoping his trio of latest differential punts manage to do just this as will Arvin-ation with his pair of attacking punts.

Looking ahead, Dat Guy has been studying the Christmas fixture schedule to see if he can predict where the most likely rotation hot spots will be. Christina has also been looking at festive fixtures and the added value a good fifth midfielder is set to provide. Meanwhile,  The Sarjeant has been looking into the recent past for his up-to-date Premier League form gauge to help with this weekend’s decisions.

On paper, some fixtures seem to be easy to predict. A top of the table team will surely beat a relegation threatened minnow? This week The Puntmaster has been turning such preconceptions on their head to delve deep into the statistics to find the real tough and easy games and uncover some flat track bullies and Davids versus Goliaths on the way.

Elsewhere, Maillot Jaune won this week’s Community Champion vote and this weekend will take on Mark, Paul and myself in the Gameweek 12 Scout Picks.

Finally, for those wildcarding soon, Kalix has produced this must-read guide to getting the best value out of your newly constructed team.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. We also offer £25 to the writer of the most popular article each month.

The Hottest Topics

Among the toughest strategies this week is how to deal with the fall out from an injury-plagued international week, where popular picks such as Leighton Baines emerged as doubts for Gameweek 12. In our discussion on how to cope with injuries Hagop favours patience and waiting right up until all press conferences are finished. Tony Hibbert, meanwhile, is taking no chances and has used his wildcard already this week.

Another tough choice this week is where to place the captain’s armband. Coutinho’s Brain has been looking at this week’s standout pair, Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa.

For Pringle, this week’s toughest choice has been which Chelsea defender to invest in to take advantage of their kind run of matches. Ryan, meanwhile, has been left exasperated by the lack of reliable budget defenders.

Bsloebadger made an interesting discovery for those considering Costa as an armband candidate this week and beyond. It appears that the Chelsea striker struggles against more portly centre-backs and excels against skinnier ones.

Rickardinho followed this up with a current weight check on the centre-backs Costa will face in the coming weeks. Sunderland and Hull could prove a happy hunting ground for the Chelsea man, according to his research.

Costa will no doubt be hoping that opposition defenders resist the temptation to over eat this Christmas. Among other wishes in our festive planning discussion were a fully playing bench, something that MJ6987 among others is hoping for.

Looking even further ahead, Dusan Citizen has provided this handy list of Premier League players set to depart the UK to participate in January’s African Cup of Nations.

Fusen popped by with his version of the Gargatron, which delves deep into your Fantasy Premier League team’s performance and was conceived by community regular Gargamel. We also introduced a new game to the community, Fantasy Football Exchange. Harri from FFE has been on hand this week  to help answer your questions about the game.

Finally, we end our hot topic round up with a truly heartwarming post from RoysCallersAnne who recounts his seven year old son’s trip this week to his first ever football match, Ireland’s exciting 4-1 drubbing of the USA.

The Members Tables

Aerial threat was the focus of a pair of tables from Dzeko…the original Lewandowski. Here’s his look at those players with the greatest threat from on high as well as those who struggle to deal with these lofty titans.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

This weekend sees the grand final of FFS UEFA’s Hockey World Cup competition, where Argentina go up against New Zealand. For all the latest on this competition click here.

      Well on Ladbrokes, Aguero and Costa are both odds on, Costa marginally ahead.

      Not sure about the other 2 but almost certainly less likely to score.

        hmm... i think costa and aguero are prolly around 8/13 to score anytime (from experience)

    Decision time - any comments appreciated....

    A) Baines -> Terry
    B) Albrighton -> Isgrove (banks the 0.1m)

    Krul, Elliot
    Baines, Chambers, Wisdom, Hutton, Yun
    Sanchez, Hazard, Chadli, Siggy, Albrighton
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    Bank 0.0m, 2 freebies

    A) would leave me enough cash to do Chadli & Pelle -> either

    i) Boyd & Rooney, or
    ii) ADM/Wally & Austin
    next week

            Can really see that game 0-0. Pelle stats been not great lately either. And u will want rid soon. Baines on the other hand may miss the week but u will sure as hell want him back!

              Yeah, fair point. Pelle will possibly go next week for sure, but I'd quite like to see how Rooney(and MUN) look this week to keep that as an option for the 3rd striker spot

      I don't like either TBH. I like my fifth midfielder to at least be capable of scoring appearance points if needed and if Baines misses a game it doesn't look like he'll be out for long. Will you need that extra .1 to get him back?

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

        Yep, will likely lose 0.1m on Baines.

        Any better ideas than these 2 above?

          Pelle next week maybe, but not this week. I see your dilemma. It's hard to let a FT slide by, but I don't see much you can do. Wisdom to Duff would give you .1 if you bought the latter at 4.3, but I expect you've had him longer than that.

            Yep, I've had Wisdom and Hutton from 4.0m

            Surely B is better than burning the trade though? Both players are dead wood but Isgrove gets me 0.1m.

            If Saylor is fit then perhaps I could do Wisdom -> Saylor this week - has a decent fixture and banks me 0.2m

            1. Diva

              You triple up on Toon's up and down defence then and their fixtures change soon... If you don't mind having a fifth mid that doesn't play then there is some sense in B, but the heavy Christmas fixture schedule is on the horizon. If anything I'd be taking this opportunity to switch Albrighton to a cheap regular starter and working out where to get the cash for your other moves next week.

      Ridiculous and typical overreaction. Never mind Carroll and Torres to Chelsea, Balotelli is a worse signing.

        Agreed, when he's played at least two consecutive 90 minute games, then we can debate his 'floppiness'(?).

        Now, my man Balotelli over here on the right has been stifling to say the least.
        I mean if you really want to embarrass him, he has yet to score. Emre 'Can Do' Can here on my left hasn't even started a whole 90 minutes, & he has scored more goals then the former 😯 Let alone, taking into account their roles on the side, Balo being a #9, & Can a more role player, Milner-esque

        That's just to put in perspective what value Balo has brought to the table.
        & yes if you're wondering. I hate this man.

      Has to be Costa or Aguero. Amongst the top players, Costa may actually be a differential. I think most will go Aguero

        Interesting, I like it. However, looking at this week i'm a little worried. Do you think the above transfer of Fabregas and Welbeck > Kun and Boyd -4? is worth it this week?

      Well, I see multiple issue right now. Now Aguero, no Alexis & no Baines for the coming fixtures (if fit). One could argue, that those three are the go to gents of the season. Each week, you'll be stumbling upon them on your side, trying to slot them I think. May be wrong, of course.

      Anyway, your defense will face many hardships soon (Gw13 on). especially if Moore loses his spot on a long term basis. You'll have to field Clyne for his VsX & be stuck w/ the other two options left (seeing as PvA is injured). So, this week you're of the hook at the back, but I'd look to downgrade PvA to a reliable cheap defender who can rotate well w/ whoever you're keen on rotating him w/.
      Perhaps, there is some way to obtain Baines soon. A Clyne --> Baines swap could work out very well if you downgrade the mid.

      In the midfield, a transfer is off the essence IMO. This transfer will jump start your others, & whoever you decide to downgrade I, I'd use the funds to upgrade Welbeck to Aguero if possible.
      (proabably Yaya & Fab). Mane, is tough & go really IMO, perhaps he could stay put for now until you're settled. Yes btw. I'm not keen on the Chelsea mid double up, more value for that 4th spot at this point.

      Sakho, should stay IMO. Until he blanks during a whole 90 min match (apart from last week) he still has a lot of promise. Welbeck would get my axe though, the easiest route to get Costa & less messy of the two,

      So, in summary. These would be the total loves on the cards you choose when you'll pull them or which for a hit. (it looks like you're settled on a 352, I would have recommended a Boyd downgrade, make things 10x easier for you)

      (Yaya/Fab ---> Boyd)
      Yaya ---> Alexis
      PvA --: Reliable cheaper uber
      Fab ---> Chadli/Downing
      Welbeck --> Aguero
      Clyne --> Baines

        Wow I really appreciate this all mate and you're totally 100% right...unfortunately you also did confirm how bad my team actually does look atm. You've just about convinced me to get Kun this week for certain even if it does cost me a hit. I think I will do Welbeck and Fabregas > Bridcutt (I cant afford Boyd as it turns out) and Aguero -4 after all. Cheers

          🙁 I'm so sorry mate! Definitely didn't mean to come off a *ick
          It's a good side though 🙂 , just different from the rest (good thing) & investing in a great bench has put you in a great position for this GW. Will for sure have a great GW nonetheless.

          My post was more concerned about your team in general, than your likelihood of scoring points this w/e. Re-reading I was a bit blunt to be honest, apologies

          Yeh, Aguero can only propel you even higher right now 😉

            No no its totally fine I see where your coming from but after mulling it over i've decided that I'm going to captain Hazard and hang on for dear life that Aguero and Sanchez do not dominate yet again this week. Next week I will use the very same advice you've offered as I look to transfer in both the Chilean and the Argentine with 2 FTs in hand. But until then...i've got to pray the side i've got through can come through with a solid performance until I can get the squad I'd like to have, hopefully that's only just a GW away! Good luck mate, thanks for your help!
