The Community Round Up

Despite their defeat against Swansea, interest in Arsenal’s key players has picked up considerably this week as the Gunners, as well as Sunderland, prepare for double Gameweek 37. Our community writers and posters were full of good advice on the best players to draft, while our hot topics also take a look back at the season’s best, cheapest and most unlikely stars. We also catch up on the latest scraps for mini-league glory in our community tournaments as well as showcase the week’s best latest statistics in our Members area.

The Community Articles

Our resident Arsenal expert Jaffalicious has returned with a timely update on the best attacking assets from among the Gunners ranks. This has already proved essential reading for those wondering which players to bring in ahead of their double fixtures in Gameweek 37. AZ has also been helping out those looking for Arsenal’s assets with this close look at three of their midfielders.

However, early investment in Arsenal players in Gameweek 36 proved disastrous for many, according to our latest Rough with the Smooth round up of your week’s best and worst transfers, captaincy decisions and team selections.

The Puntmaster is among those to be cautious about Arsenal’s differential targets and has instead focused on a Sunderland midfielder and two single Gameweek players in his latest look at the week’s best punts.

Congratulations to Gussy whose guide to Fantasy Football success without ever watching a match proved to be the most popular community article of April. He earns a £20 Amazon voucher for his efforts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Although Arsenal players will be the main attraction during Gameweek 37, the community is clearly keen on taking some punts on Sunderland players ahead of their double fixtures. In our discussion on the best Black Cat options Brian Utd – Why Always We favours Jordi Gomez (prior to his injury), while HVT has his eye on Jermaine Defoe.

For those considering even more daring punts Jose Mourinho has indicated that some of his fringe players such as Izzy Brown and Nathan Ake are set to start against West Brom this weekend. Patch was keen to know more about these young stars and the community was only too happy to help out.

While price used to be a good indicator of a player’s points potential, Punty believes that this season has ended the notion that a budget price tag indicates less chance of racking up a good score. He wonders whether the large array of quality budget options this season, including Harry Kane and Leicester’s defenders, has made transfer value largely irrelevant this season.

The Puntmaster took a break from offering up the week’s best differential picks to ask which players have proved to be the most disappointing this season. With Manchester United and Liverpool’s ranks beset with injury and poor form for large parts of the season, it was no surprise to see their players amongst those mentioned.

In contrast, Kricky is for Kinear asked the community to name their surprise stars of the season as he compiles a 2014/15 Bargain Basement Cult Differentials XI. To start things off he asked the community to name their favourite budget friendly cult hero goalkeepers of the year and defenders.

Delaying transfers for this season’s unlikely budget stars has cost many dearly this season. Just a Hat’s discussion looked back at this season to see what other key lessons the community has learned.

Cutting down on points hits has been among lessons learned by many this year. But as Goodfella’s discussion on the links between hits and rank found, even the highest placed managers are keen on the odd points deduction.

The Members Tables

To give some further insight into the best double Gameweek players to consider I’ve constructed this table looking at Arsenal’s assets, as well as this look at Sunderland’s most attacking players. Both are sorted by shots in the box, one of the best indicators of goal scoring potential.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In the Official Deadzone League mateen .a. bakar has a strong lead of two points going into the final two Gameweeks. Ralph Noodles is leading the chasing pack in second place.

Greenwindmill, who sits in 27th overall, has consolidated a commanding lead at the summit of The Long and Winding Road main league and The FFScout Moderators & Contributors league. However, he dropped to third in the Top 1000 Any Season league in Gameweek 36, with Stuart Shingler’s impressive tally of 107 propelling him into first.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, Mark K., Winter_is_coming, HuttonDressedasLahm, ManTree(v2!) or just JAY! and Arfield Boyd have made the DGW37 final.

I get that Sunderland have a DGW but none of their options looking appealing in the slightest..

Like would prefer to keep and Kane over bringing in Defore or Wickam.

Would prefer to start any of my mids over Larsson (hasn't recorded a goal or assists since January)

And even my defenders have great fixtures vs say bringing in PVA.

Anyone agree or bringing them in regardless..

In the member area team defensive stats tables, is the "crosses conceded from left/right flank" the defensive teams left/right flank, or the opponent's left/right flank? E.g., if I'd check Chelsea's crosses conceded from left flank, would those crosses have come from plays against Azpi/Luis or Ivan?

    1. ACCOUNTING ON CHRIS
      • 10 Years

Left flank attack would be Ivan.
Right flank attack would be Azpi

      I think

      1. Camp No No
        • 10 Years

Sure, but left flank defence would be Azpi and right flank defence would be Ivan. It's not entirely clear in that table. I'd hope someone from the upkeep could answer this.

You know, it's the defensive teams stats, after all. So it's not clear that the left and right refer to the attacking team's perspective.

From the Team News section: "Further forward, Bobby Zamora is a doubt, so Leroy Fer could play “in the hole” behind Charlie Austin". Could be a canny differential.

I'm happy with Ozil. Cazorla a good option too but whoever scores is likely to be assisted by Mesut. He might actually be the safest way to grind out points over the double.

Do you think so ?...I thought he was a bit naff the last time he played. Anyway it's done now so just have to hope he tips the balance of probabilities.

Yeah I heard he didn't impress last time out, but he sometimes appears lazy and then does something magical out of nowhere. I think it IS a bit of a lottery though, and there's every chance Cazorla scores big instead.

Maybe, yeah. I'd be happy with Kos, Sanchez, Bellerin, despite the risk on playing time. Bellerin is so damn cheap that he allows a very nice squad while also scoring well himself. If he'll play the rest three (and I'm ready to take the risk he doesn't), he can be pure platinum.

Oh aye he's a great pick. I've never had him but it doesn't change the facts. If anybody had said you could have had him as a sure fire starter from GW1 he would have been in just about every team.

Yeah. And since he's been a starter, he's scored over 4.6ppg. If you got him for the initial price of 4.4, or even 4.5, that's more that 1ppg/price. From guys who actually constantly get starts only Kane, and temporarily (I guess) Myhill are doing that. That's how good value he is.

And I think he's there for the long haul. Plenty of folk are worrying about Debuchy but I think Bellerin is a better player and it's Debuchy who needs to worry...I'd have Bellerin all day every day if I was Wenger.

I wouldn't say that he's straight forward better now. But more talented, there I would agree. And I think there's no debate even, Bellerin is insanely talented.

I think it's of great value for them to have both, and that's why I would worry about Debuchy's presence. Although, maybe not for this end of the season. Not much need to rotate anymore and seen that team works, why to change it and risk the straight CL spot? Bellerin is one of the best performing players, after all. But next season, I wouldn't trust either to have the RB spot nailed, and I'd believe that both will perform better if rotated correctly. Chambers may be the solution to defensive midfield in the end, with Coquelin.

Yeah...Monreal/Gibbs on one side and Debuchy/Bellerin on the other is pretty damned good. I think Chambers has been a bit of a duff buy..not sure if he will live up to the hype of last year.

To me Chambers has looked pretty good. He's still young, and he can play many positions. Wenger originally said that he's more there as a CB or DM, didn't he? So, they might not buy a DM, but go with Coquelin and Chambers - and Chambers and Paulista can back up Mertesacker who shouldn't have many years left in his feet. A team challenging in CL will need 4 CB's who can start on that level.

Yeah he is young for sure, so maybe I'm being harsh. No doubt that Bellerin has taken his chance better than Chambers though so we'll have to se what happens in the next year or two in those other positions for Chambers.

Sure. Bellerin really has shown he can do it as a RB on the highest level. He should definitely play a lot already next season. Chambers must be less sure about his game time.
