The Community Round Up

Despite their defeat against Swansea, interest in Arsenal’s key players has picked up considerably this week as the Gunners, as well as Sunderland, prepare for double Gameweek 37. Our community writers and posters were full of good advice on the best players to draft, while our hot topics also take a look back at the season’s best, cheapest and most unlikely stars. We also catch up on the latest scraps for mini-league glory in our community tournaments as well as showcase the week’s best latest statistics in our Members area.

The Community Articles

Our resident Arsenal expert Jaffalicious has returned with a timely update on the best attacking assets from among the Gunners ranks. This has already proved essential reading for those wondering which players to bring in ahead of their double fixtures in Gameweek 37. AZ has also been helping out those looking for Arsenal’s assets with this close look at three of their midfielders.

However, early investment in Arsenal players in Gameweek 36 proved disastrous for many, according to our latest Rough with the Smooth round up of your week’s best and worst transfers, captaincy decisions and team selections.

The Puntmaster is among those to be cautious about Arsenal’s differential targets and has instead focused on a Sunderland midfielder and two single Gameweek players in his latest look at the week’s best punts.

Congratulations to Gussy whose guide to Fantasy Football success without ever watching a match proved to be the most popular community article of April. He earns a £20 Amazon voucher for his efforts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Although Arsenal players will be the main attraction during Gameweek 37, the community is clearly keen on taking some punts on Sunderland players ahead of their double fixtures. In our discussion on the best Black Cat options Brian Utd – Why Always We favours Jordi Gomez (prior to his injury), while HVT has his eye on Jermaine Defoe.

For those considering even more daring punts Jose Mourinho has indicated that some of his fringe players such as Izzy Brown and Nathan Ake are set to start against West Brom this weekend. Patch was keen to know more about these young stars and the community was only too happy to help out.

While price used to be a good indicator of a player’s points potential, Punty believes that this season has ended the notion that a budget price tag indicates less chance of racking up a good score. He wonders whether the large array of quality budget options this season, including Harry Kane and Leicester’s defenders, has made transfer value largely irrelevant this season.

The Puntmaster took a break from offering up the week’s best differential picks to ask which players have proved to be the most disappointing this season. With Manchester United and Liverpool’s ranks beset with injury and poor form for large parts of the season, it was no surprise to see their players amongst those mentioned.

In contrast, Kricky is for Kinear asked the community to name their surprise stars of the season as he compiles a 2014/15 Bargain Basement Cult Differentials XI. To start things off he asked the community to name their favourite budget friendly cult hero goalkeepers of the year and defenders.

Delaying transfers for this season’s unlikely budget stars has cost many dearly this season. Just a Hat’s discussion looked back at this season to see what other key lessons the community has learned.

Cutting down on points hits has been among lessons learned by many this year. But as Goodfella’s discussion on the links between hits and rank found, even the highest placed managers are keen on the odd points deduction.

The Members Tables

To give some further insight into the best double Gameweek players to consider I’ve constructed this table looking at Arsenal’s assets, as well as this look at Sunderland’s most attacking players. Both are sorted by shots in the box, one of the best indicators of goal scoring potential.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In the Official Deadzone League mateen .a. bakar has a strong lead of two points going into the final two Gameweeks. Ralph Noodles is leading the chasing pack in second place.

Greenwindmill, who sits in 27th overall, has consolidated a commanding lead at the summit of The Long and Winding Road main league and The FFScout Moderators & Contributors league. However, he dropped to third in the Top 1000 Any Season league in Gameweek 36, with Stuart Shingler’s impressive tally of 107 propelling him into first.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, Mark K., Winter_is_coming, HuttonDressedasLahm, ManTree(v2!) or just JAY! and Arfield Boyd have made the DGW37 final.

Who'll score more this week, Skrtel or Koscielny?

Is it 50/50 or Koscielny the clear winner?

Alright. That is an option. But to me, that would be for a hit, and probably benching either Skrtel or Benteke. Will PVA outscore either of them by 4? I don't think so.

On the other hand, if I'd like to do, e.g. Cazorla/Silva -> Hazard next week, it would have to be for a hit again, so I could as well take the hit now when I've got a DGW to compensate for it, right?

            1. Dr Dream
              • 11 Years
              9 years, 1 month ago

I did it for free...so PVA for a DGW followed by a Hazard inwards against Sunderland is a no brainer...TBH I'd do it for a hit as well...

                • 10 Years
                9 years, 1 month ago

Yeah... good planning. I caused my problems myself by forgetting to use my wildcard when I activated it. Well, I did a couple of transfers right away, but then forgot to really use it during the rest of the week, and so I ended up keeping some expensive dead wood in my team that causes me to either make a compromise I don't like too much or take a couple of hits to free some team value. I will have to take a minimum one hit to get three Arsenal players, anyway, and will be without either Sanchez or Hazard on last round without at least one more hit.

How sure are we that Cazorla will outscore Silva by 4 or more?

Sunderland vs Leicester could be a fascinating tactical battle if both teams stick to the shape they've been using in the last few games. If Leicester stick with the back three then they'll have to contend with having no spare man against Sunderland's attacking front three, while Sunderland's central defenders will have no spare man against Leicester's front two.

I expect the midfields to cancel each other out, making Mahrez less of a good play (Cattermole could do a job on him). Schlupp and Albrighton look like great options though, as they could have a lot of space out wide if Defoe and Wickham are lax with their tracking back. PVA and Jones could meet them higher up the pitch, which would make one thing a lot more likely: goals. It would be all about that 2v2 in the middle of Sunderland's defence at that point, and Brown and O'Shea might struggle with Vardy's mobility.

Wasilewski, Huth and Morgan have been great recently, but they're not the most mobile trio of centre halves. I could see them struggling with Defoe and Wickham if they can get in behind the Leicester wingbacks and stretch that back three. I'm definitely seeing goals in this one, I'm gonna say 2-2.

Insert other immobile and unconvincing Sunderland centre back. Even better for Vardy owners I would say.

Quite possibly the most interesting game this weekend from a neutral's point of view.

Would they settle for a point each?

I think both will believe they can win it given recent results. I don't think Sunderland can risk playing for a draw given their last two fixtures as (assuming they lose those) they would need Hull and Newcastle to not win another game.

I've managed to obtain my ideal three midfielders: Sanchez, Hazard and Henderson. However I can only afford a mid-priced fourth midfielder, which at the moment I'm unsure of who that should be. I'm thinking either a Sunderland midfielder, Chadli / Sigurdsson / Downing or maybe even Mané.

    What do you guys think?

I would be looking at the teams who still have something to play for. So Larsson, Grealish, Cleverley or Albrighton. Young and Fellaini might be worth a look as well.

    Looking for advice.

I'm 3rd in my ML and need to make up 40-50 pts if possible in 2 GW's.

I have Sanchez, Giroud & Ramsey from Arsenal.

Rivals i'm chasing have the following Gunners as of last week.
    Rival 1) Kosc & Cazorla
Rival 2) Sanchez, Bellerin & Ospina

I presume Rival 1 will bring in Sanchez as his FT this week so should I

    A) gamble and captain Giroud
    B) gamble and captain Ramsey
    C) captain Sanchez and hope Ramsey/Giroud is enough of a differential

Cheers for the comments and help.
