The Community Round Up

As with last week, Wildcarders have once again hogged the limelight amongst the community chatter as they worked to finalise their revamped squads.

Our Hot Topic posters are full of eleventh-hour tips, although according to one of our community writers, those deploying this chip may be better off sitting on their hands.

Elsewhere, our scribes also investigate the most creative players, while our community discussions chew over other issues, including the best Chelsea options, bonus points stars and the origins of the Fantasy Premier League.

There’s further analysis of Antonio Conte’s assets in our Members tables round-up, while we finish off by showcasing a couple of community competitions that have been overlooked to this point.

The Community Articles

Stilicho has decided to take it easy this season in FPL by setting up a “ghost ship” team based around a power-five defence, which will sail through the 2017/18 fixture list without a single transfer or line-up change.

The community article on his (lack of) endeavours shows that he’s faring very well indeed and is even on course to top the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league, which he joined ahead of Gameweek 8.

Double Gameweek fever is taking Norwegian top flight game Fantasy Eliteserien by storm this week with Niemi on hand to run the rule over the best options.

Football’s chief creators are the focus of André94PT’s Members exclusive community article as he looks at a range of measures to discover more on these maestros.

Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas are among such players who are backed for success in Gameweek 8 in Hutch_Jameslatest canvassing of the crowd.

Meanwhile, Top Marx has been voted by you as the favourite community writer for the month of September. His latest article plotting the progress of the Hall of Fame top five can be found here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

Wildcarders are making the final tweaks to their overhauled squads tonight but, with so many expensive options across all positions, Legomane asked those deploying this chip ahead of Gameweek 8 what sacrifices they are making.

We have also helped out with a rate my Wildcard team Hot Topic for those seeking and willing to give last minute advice.

As Sully 29’s discussion on this chip points out, there are still a number of big decisions remaining, including how we configure our strikers.

Manchester City’s options are the main concerns. Earlier this week, Ktk_Interista considered whether Gabriel Jesus is worth acquiring in the light of Sergio Aguero’s speedy recovery from a rib injury. Spartac Mac also takes a look at the Brazilian and how he compares with his team-mates for points potential.

Our discussion on forward line strategy also shows that there is still no consensus on how many heavy-hitters to field up front, let alone which attackers warrant selection.

For those considering transferring in Jamie Vardy, the Leicester striker’s aerial threat could prove pivotal, says our hot topic on the best headers of the ball.

The Foxes frontman is among this week’s most popular players in FPL’s transfer market, claiming more than 225,000 new owners. But being the latest bandwagon has not proved a guarantee of success, according to Page 302‘s ”beat the knee-jerkers” update, which looks at the performance of a team he is compiling each week based on the most popular transfers.

Among the latest flops in this series is Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, who following a double-digit haul in Gameweek 6, lasted just 34 minutes due to injury last time out to return just a single point.

His likely absence this weekend could see Blues midfielder Eden Hazard fielded in an advanced attacking role, which is among a number of reasons we give on why the Belgian should be a target.

However, Kysersosa’s analysis of his toils on the road may put some off, especially as he has four away days in his next six.

Other Blues options worth considering are Cesc Fabregas and Cesar Azpiliceuta, who both feature prominently in our look at FPL’s baseline bonus point stars, which is calculated by stripping out goals and assist points. Ludo added to this topic later in the week by analysing why forwards tend to do so badly using this measure.

While Chelsea’s fixtures look far brighter from this weekend, Manchester United’s worsen. This prompted Cheese to wonder whether it is worth hanging on to Red Devils defenders over the coming Gameweeks.

Finally, Skooldaze dusted off his time machine to take us back to the origins of FPL, when a budget teenage striker by the name of Wayne was among the emerging bandwagons.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

The best Chelsea defenders are the subject of FPL Virgin’s most recent table, while FPL Shotlas has been focusing on cheap midfielders.

Elsewhere the latest baseline bonus points stars are revealed in my bonus magnets table and I’ve also taken a look at Manchester City’s key players, in particular their sharpest shooters.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

With no Premier League action last weekend we thought we’d provide an update on a couple of community tournaments that we haven’t covered for a while.

The Ironman leagues have been created by Teddy to cover a range of Fantasy formats and currently PDM is the man to beat, as he is currently top of both the FPL and FPL draft leagues. Elsewhere in the competition, I’m top of the Ironman Dugout draft contest.

PDM also tops the FFS Old Farts Club, which has been set up for our community’s oldest and wisest members.

Meanwhile, this weekend sees the second set of matches in the Community Watch tournament, according to Dreamslatest update from on behalf of the organising committee.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

How do we feel about the Brighton defence? They are yet to get thrashed and seem to concede 1-2 goals per game, max. They could be a few clean sheets in their next lot of fixtures

Ryan a solid option. I think it would be a waste of a defender spot though tbh with zero attacking threat and plenty of 4.5 options out there

Dunk for sure the best of the bunch, but assuming you already have a Burnley guy I'd look at Stoke, Swansea, Newcastle or maybe Martina also. (e.g. Wimmer/Johnson(!), Naughton/Fernandez, Lascelles/Yedlin). You're on 4 at the back right?

Cheers. I already have a Burnley (Ward) & Castle (Clark) rotation planned, Wimmer could be good as well, but not sure if he's nailed with Martins-indi and shawcross returning soon, Martina is being rotated with Holgate and Everton look poor.

3 at the back with Davies Jones Clark Ward and Rosenoir atm

If 3 at the back I would bank the 0.4. I know it looks so ugly having mbemba or whoever it is in there but you're just not ever going to need them until the 2nd wildcard. That 0.4 feels so important this season up top, the difference between safe silva and risky sterling/sane for example

I brought in Dunk for Hegazi last night before Hegazi dropped.

I think Dunk represents good value as a rotational defender at £4.4m. Brighton are solid and have good fixtures like you say. They also seem to create decent opportunities from set-pieces, with him and Duffy looking threatening from these.

      1. We Will Klopp you

I've heard about their set piece threat, could be a good pick. My options are either Brady to Choupo or Rosenoir to Dunk (5th def), so dependant on how Brighton do this gw and how Brady does

A transfer for a defender always seems a bit uninspiring but by the sounds of things, bringing in Dunk would give you a nice rotation over the next few weeks.

Similar situation as myself, it seemed like the most sensible move going forward. I’ll have a three-way rotation of budget defenders, two of which will have good fixtures every week for the next 8 GWs.

Might be a way to outsmart those getting in Luiz and Otamendi but if I do bring him in I hope I don't end up ruing it with those annoying 0.1ms when trying to bring someone in at a later point

No, played my WC in GW6. I would've definitely had Silva on a WC now. I ended up replacing Morata with Hazard and a switch to 3-5-2, so Silva will have to wait unfortunately.

Don't have Vardy but have all the rest. I'm expecting a low scoring week for my team, but feel comfortable that those WC'ing won't crush it completely. Plus tables turn next week when Kun, Morata return and Pool's fixtures turn in GW10.

Is that a wink or is there something stuck in there? Of those monstrosities I'd say the priority would be to have a playing 5th mid, so maybe the mccarthur one with Cook or Hogg? Really though I'd try and squeeze an extra 0.1 or 0.2 from somewhere and clean that up a little.

Thinking that 5th mid gives me nothing so Dunk as 1st on the bench anyway. Having that in mind 4.5 or 4.3 mid makes no diference imo. Plus Mariappa/Mbemba gives me so so bench plus few big guns in my team. What do you think?

Mind posting the rest of your team? In theory it's fine it just feels as if coming into the winter period you're gonna need at least one more starter there. The 3.9 keeper I wouldnt be so bothered about, such a crapshoot picking keepers anyway.

Missed Sane and Sterling price increase, what should i do to Salah :
    A) Keep
    B) Transfer to Sterling
    C) Transfer to Sane

    *Have silva and Otamendi
*Cant buy back Salah if his price stay at 9.2, but available to coutinho

A, personally. With the news that he's also on penalties, I'm now even less inclined to get rid of him.

Is he on pens or was Klopp just calling him their best penalty taker after his act if elite mental strength?

Has Firmino missed a pen to be taken off them?

I don't have enough quality defenders not to play him, unfortunately. I think Burnley are a decent shout for a clean sheet though.

Haven't settled on WC yet but might do Ward/Lascelles 4th/5th rotate double Pope/Elliot. Love their run of fixtures

Either way I'd be starting Ward or whichever Burnley option people have. Lowton over Jones this week for me.

Avoided the urge to play the wildcard over the break, but that's left me not in the greatest position. Thoughts?

    Eliot
    Davies | Jones* | Ward
    Eriksen | Salah | Mooy | Ritchie*
    Kane (C) | Kaku | Firmino

Bench: Foster | Daniels | Carroll | Long

    2 FT, 0 itb.

    A) Firmino + Daniels -> Vardy + 4.5 def (e.g. Swansea/Brighton defender)
    B) Firmino + Ritchie -> Joselu + Silva
    C) Firmino + Ritchie + Daniels -> Jesus + 4.4 mid + 4.4 def (e.g. Duffy/Wimmer) (-4)

A seems the most sensible. If Ritchie or Jones doesn't play, it would mean I have a defender with a decent fixture as a back up. It also helps with finally getting rid of Mooy next week, as it will give me enough extra cash (0.3) to upgrade him to Choupo.

B and C are more just hypothetical ways of getting in some City attackers. C in particular is a bit crazy, though I have the wildcard which I'll use soon regardless which could mop it up.

What moves would you make in my position? 🙂

Realised I have just enough money to get rid of Mooy instead of Ritchie for Silva if I went for B. Not that I want 2 Newcastle attackers for long, and I'm hoping I'll hear something more before the deadline about Ritchie, but would you go for that instead?

I’m firmly in the ‘keep’ camp but if you have a plan to bring Lukaku back further down the line then it could work.

Sounds like Conte could be doing that in the real game, two games where you could have a 10m striker making up the numbers.

    on WC

keep Eriksen, then transfer to Hazard next GW

or swap to Haz right now?

    1. Freddo

Keep and then swap, if Eriksen hauls today (like he should) you probably won't want to swap.

eriksen fixture proof after all :p

The only real attraction for Hazard over Eriksen is his low ownership, 4 weeks of him outscoring Eriksen could be great for the rank, just this could be a bad week to start it as Spurs could score well today.

WC team set with 1m in bank

    Ryan Elliot
    B.Davies Luiz VVD Ward Fernandez(Swa)
    Fabregas Sterling Silva King Carroll
    Vardy Kane Lukaku

    How is it looking gents?
will play 4-3-3 regularly as of now , can upgrade 1 of the 4.5m to Richarilson/Gross etc when someone like Morata comes back (Lukakku->Morata) or alternatively can get in Aguero
