The Technical Area – Breaking Gameweek 31’s Template

With just four fixtures confirmed for Gameweek 31 so far, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) options for this particular weekend appear thin on the ground.

Restricted to just three players from any one side, managers find themselves exploring hitherto uncharted waters in the hopes of fleshing out a starting lineup capable of returning an adequate points haul.

Though a number of us may choose to preserve our Free Hit Chips for Gameweek 35 instead – content to roll out just seven or eight players in Gameweek 31 – others may view this Gameweek as an ideal opportunity to deploy the Free Hit now in order to gain ground on the pack.

With this in mind, this Technical Area will be looking beyond the obvious candidates for filling out our Gameweek 31 squads and pinpointing some high-upside players capable of big returns.

      Hard to call both moves could backfire.
      I dont think either of those moves is absolutely necessary maybe save transfer.

    Serious amount of duds on show in this GW. When trying to even throw a free hit team together it's very slim pickings and most will cancel out each others points anyway.

    More than happy with 6-8 players in GW31.

      I shall probably cobble a team together for 31 and FH in 35 - but I don't subscribe to the theory that 31 will be low scoring just because the top players aren't playing. Relegation threatened players still score, assist and get clean sheets. The only thing you can be sure of is that players who don't play will get zero.

        Outside of the core 8 or so players that people will throw together there's not much to be getting excited for or using chips on, for me.

        When I see people post being happy with 6-8 players or even taking big hits for 31, I must admit, I love seeing it. I'm going all in for XI and have been planning for weeks. Of course, I'm overlooking potential big hitters the next 3 gw's. Can't wait to see how it pans out. Thats why I've made the league below.

          I have the ability to bring in any defender up to 4.4M this week to fund RLC -> Walcott for free. (Downgrading Valencia). Are there any GW31 assets better than Danny Simpson in your estimation? Simpson next 3 are Stoke, Bournemouth, West Brom and he is only 4.3m.

          Cuco Martina is 4.4m and could get 1-2 more starts but Baines/Coleman are very close so it's a risk as he may not even be a starter by 31.

          Don't like Watford fixtures. Anyone else you can think of? HUD options start at 4.5m to my knowledge, and obviously can't buy TAA with Gomez lurking.

              Francis at 4.3 probably. Not very exciting though but get a solid home this week and 31. 29 and 30 is a huge problem for defenders for this strategy. The big hitters have hard games and the 31 players do too. If TOT/ARS/LEI defenders score well, the managers going all in on 31 will already have chosen the wrong tactic

                  I think the best way forward is getting in some big players with excellent fixtures for the next 3 gws such as Mahrez and Eriksen, but ensure you can get 10-11 players out in gw31. I expect to get 3 transfers in in gw31 for minus 4 to make up 11 players. I always think you need 11 players in a blank gw and it is still dangerous not to. Last year i posted a big score 20-30 more than most. So if people only think 7-8 players are needed happy days.

        Azpi/Francis/Lowton/Kenny/Ogbonna
        Pogba/Lingard/Allen/Salah/Sterling
        Kane/Aguero/Wilson

        I have two free transfers and am thinking as follows:

        1. Azpi and Pogba out - Mane and Van Dijk
        2. Pogba and Kane out - Mane and Firmino in

        What is everyone's reasoning for keeping Sterling?

        Obviously, he's been in fine form this season but do we think the tough fixtures plus the blank GW and then more tough fixtures after could make him go off the boil slightly?

        Surely Mahrez or Eriksen will score more points over the next 3?

          I think people have other priorities so they justify keeping him to themselves and then tell others to do the same without necessarily thinking about what's best for the other people's teams 😀

          I'm keeping, but I'd be tempted to sell if I didn't prioritise selling Otamendi and Speroni.

          I am 0.1m off of Valencia, RLC, Sterling -> Robertson, Walcott, Mahrez (-4) because RLC dropped and Robertson rose this week so am pretty disappointed but for free I would sell Sterling for Mahrez.

          Focusing now on RLC and Valencia -> Walcott + 4.4m defender instead unfortunately because of the 0.1m Robertson rise and 0.1m RLC drop... as a Jones/Valencia owner wanted to see the CL results yesterday but should have made the moves earlier in retrospect with a fit bench (Choupo Moting / Kenny / Ogbonna).

              i am 60 points behind the top 2 in my ML and am beginning to consider differentials.
