Join the Scout Team – Trials Open!

It’s been a while since we added to the team and, given that we’re still going and this Fantasy Football thing is kind of taking off, we believe it’s time we added to the squad – so effectively this is the beginning of our scouting mission!

To begin with, what we’re really looking for most of all is “talent” – namely Fantasy Football obsessives who are excited by the idea of leaving the stands, getting out onto our pitch and playing an active role in the site or wider community.

Obviously, there are some pre-requisites but, for the initial search, we’re not focusing on a specific position, so your skills could be from different fields:

  • Maybe you can write Fantasy Football articles.
  • Maybe you’ve created and managed your own Fantasy Football site and now want to be part of a team.
  • Perhaps you have experience in a Fantasy Football community or even any community.
  • Or you could run a Twitter or YouTube channel.

If you can do any of those things or, amazingly, perhaps all of them, then we’d love to hear from you.

The nature of the role will depend on the person and skillset. We have a core team who’ve been with us for years, so we’re a loyal and flexible company to work with if it’s a good match.

Obviously we’d kick-off with a trial and then likely look at a part-time contract, so you’d need to be happy with freelance work to begin with at least, but if things go well this could extend into a much longer-term deal.
Even if you’re not looking for a gig, but you’ve just fancied writing an article a week and have an idea to pitch us, then please get in touch.

As a company, we work remotely for much of the time but, ideally, we’d meet and work together on occasion, so being willing and able to work in London from time to time would also be a big advantage.

If all that sounds interesting and you’d like to put your name forward, please drop us a line at jobs@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with some indication of what you could add to our line-up and if possible examples of relevant previous work – be it a link to an article, website, Twitter channel or YouTube channel. CV’s are good too but not essential.

N.B. In our experience, this process can take some time and, as we’re in the middle of the season, we may be slow responding to applications, so please be patient.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thinking of saving FT unless Jones is ruled out. What do you reckon, G2G?

    DDG
    VVD - Jones - Mee - Mariappa
    Salah (c) - Sterling - Erikson - Albrighton
    Kane (vc) - Firmino

    Speroni - Wilson - Bauer - Walcott

Ay true. If he's out have you any suggestions? Fancy a Spurs defender but with 5.4 can only afford Trippier and big rotation risk

Slim pickings tbh. Avoid Trippier he’s rotated more often than Davies. Monitor Christensen long term only 5.3

Just had the most surreal conversation, I was in my favourite butchers purchasing a fabulously juicy cut of venison when who should pop in but Andrew Lincoln. Amazingly he recognized me from our one previous meeting; well i say meeting, in fact he had had me removed from the set of Love Actually for trying to upskirt Keira Knightley with my brand new Cannon EOS 300D. Anyway to cut a long story short it turns out he can't decide between Salah and Kane for the armband, any thoughts?

I'd imagine they would have an early inspection for those reasons, but if it looks payable and then there is a deluge later on and it becomes unplayable, there's not really a lot they can do other than call it off.

It’s not the pitch that is likely to be the issue, it is the snow on the circulation areas, pavements around the ground etc which may be a danger to fans - low temps and freezing snow on the ground etc

Yes, if the game is not played in the current game-week then any City or Arsenal players in your team will have played zero minutes and will therefore be auto-subbed.

If however the game is abandoned after having started but before full-time and therefore needs to be replayed, I would imagine that any points scored before it was abandoned will count and that players who have played more than zero minutes will not be auto-subbed.

I’ve checked the rules and FAQ’s and this isn’t covered. However the situation you outline would seem less likely to me as this would be really unfair, in effect those players involved would have 39 fixtures. Surely it’s more likely that any points in an abandoned match are void?

Have abandonments occurred before in the Premier League? Probably not, because of undersoil heating and other advances. I certainly can't remember any.

They have certainly happened in Cup matches, in other leagues or divisions, and probably in First Division matches before the Premier League existed, but I can't remember any instances in the Premier League itself.

Abandoned matches are normally declared void and replayed, but not always. There have been instances where the score at the time of abandonment has been allowed to stand, usually when the match is at the end of the season, it is not practicable to find a new date and no issues depend on the result. And others where the match has been awarded to the team that is not at fault for the abandonment (for example, after crowd trouble).

The following is a SkyBet rule, but it probably has little or no relevance to FPL:
              "Abandoned Matches
If a match is abandoned, any bets where the outcome has already been decided e.g. half-time result or first team to score will stand. All other bets will be made void regardless of the score-line at the time of abandonment. Abandoned games will be deemed to be games which do not reach their natural conclusion by midnight local time.
Games where a referee removes the players from the field of play for a temporary period, but resumes the remaining minutes of play by midnight local time will not be deemed as abandoned."

Watford home game was abandoned a few years ago - some veterans might remember what happened. Betting and FPL won't necessarily follow the same rules as each other. Can't believe it is not on the FPL rules though - very poor from them!

Watford v Wigan, 30th December 2006, abandoned after 56 minutes because of a waterlogged pitch after torrential rain, with the sides level at 1-1.

Heskey's and Priskin's goals were struck from the Premiership records, but does anyone remember what FPL did about it?

    Hey guys,

I calculated the ranks of the top 50k in the case of Arsenal vs City game postponement. You can find them in the spreadsheet here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hNH4vULpI6LysWa-PZAmsoTns9v4HAGuRgNlwhr5ggs/edit#gid=0, just CTRL+F your name or FPL id if you are inside the top 50k and you can see how your rank will be affected by the postponement.

    Interesting stats:

The top subs replacing the postponed game players are:
    top 1k: No sub [28.7%], Tom Carroll [4.6%], Milivojevic [4.4%], Ogbonna [4.2%], Quaner [3.6%] and Lingard [3%]
    top 10k: No sub [32.4%], Ogbonna [4.3%], Tom Carroll [3.9%], Milivojevic [3.9%], Quaner [3.1%] and Lingard [2.7%]
    top 100k: No sub [35.2%], Tom Carroll [3.6%], Milivojevic [3.4%], Kenny [3.4%], Mariappa [2.6%] and DCL [2.6%]

Autosubs [average extra points per team] (if game played and all regular players play):
    top 1k: 0.579
    top 10k: 0.6726
    top 100k: 0.75463

Autosubs [average extra points per team] (if game played and Sterling misses):
    top 1k: 1.93
    top 10k: 2.1377
    top 100k: 2.10639

Autosubs [average extra points per team] (if game postponed):
    top 1k: 3.504
    top 10k: 3.7401
    top 100k: 3.86541

So, using these stats, you can judge by how many points you're getting off the bench and vice captaincy in all cases, and see how you compare to the players around you.

Team who will benefit the most if game postponed: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/1396474/event/28
    32 extra points: 10 Salah (vc) + 22 bench points (12 Murray + 2 Martina + 8 Mariappa). Jumping the ranks from 3038 to 804!

Are you sure around 30% of teams will not have any player being auto subbed in if ARS - MCI is postponed? That doesn't make sense to me, but I'm sure I've read this wrong.

      1. Ragabolly
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

This means that 30% of the city and arsenal players in people’s teams won’t get a sub.

      2. Ragabolly
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 2 months ago

Every team with missing players will most probably have autosubs of course. But not every missing player will have a sub, for example people playing 3 at the back with otamendi out and no playing defenders on the bench. Or people with 3 city players who don’t have 3 playing subs. That’s what the stat meant.

Yep, but is it really so high? Looking at my ML, quite a few teams have Sterling and Aguero. Are you saying 30% of these teams have NO points coming off the bench??

          1. Ragabolly
            • 14 Years
            6 years, 2 months ago

No, not that. Probably most teams are getting some becnch points or soemthing like 90% of the teams.

I mean 30% of the city and arsenal players won’t get a sub. So I mean one case would be my team for example. I have Sterling and Otamendi but i already have Jones who missed and will be autosubbed by CM. Sterling will be subbed by DCL. But I have no one coming in for otamendi as my last sub didn’t feature either. So that’s what I mean, I have two players getting subbed and one with no sub, if the sample was just me, that would make a percentage of 33.33% of postponed game plyers not having a sub which is actually close to the 30% of the whole thing. Hope that makes sense

if this city game gets played gw31 I have no idea which city players would play, their fixture schedule is crazy. but arsenal would be able to play a full team. arsenal players easier to pick as a result?

I don't see why City wouldn't play a full team. They don't have a game between GW30 and GW31. Otamendi, Walker, Sterling, Agüero, KdB and Silva should all play.

Arsenal on the other hand play against Milan just 3 days earlier.

Martina and Quaner may not play or get reduced minutes. Have you considered getting a GK for that GW? It looks like you have the basics that you need. 3x pool, Shaqiri and Walcott. Zaha/Moy may be the joker for that GW.
