Dugout Discussion – Man City vs Chelsea

After Brighton claimed a vital win over Arsenal at the Amex Stadium, Sunday’s second and final fixture sees Manchester City entertain Chelsea in the 4pm kick-off.

The league leaders boast two of the top six captain picks for Gameweek 29 in Sergio Aguero (6.8%) and Kevin De Bruyne (2.5%).

Over their last four home matches, Aguero has nine goals and 50 points in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), while De Bruyne has three sets of double-digits and 45 points.

Leroy Sane’s goal and assist at the Emirates on Thursday evening has had a significant impact on the FPL transfer market. The most bought player (235,000+) for Gameweek 29, the German international goes in search of a sixth 10+ points haul in front of his own fans.

Meanwhile, sales of Raheem Sterling look set to escalate as he misses out again. The most sold player in each of the last two Gameweeks, he was transferred out by a hefty 746,000+ during that period.

For the visitors, Eden Hazard arrives on the back of fine recent away output – he’s racked up 40 points in his previous four on the road, thanks to four goals and an assist.

The Belgian looks set to start as a “false 9” today, with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud named among the Chelsea subs.

Both Pedro and Willian start alongside Hazard, with the Brazilian, in particular, boasting fine form. Willian was bought by over 95,000 FPL managers for Gameweek 29, with last week’s opener at Old Trafford taking his tally to four strikes in the last three matches across all competitions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I dont think theres much wrong with the plan, which is obviously to have Fabregas get the ball and play it through to the 3 pacy front men. The problem is Fabregas' passing has been shite and the few times it has been ok, Pedro has messed up.

Context is a great thing . City are streets ahead of any other PL side. It's down to spending power . This league will become like Germany and Bayern.

I disagree here. If it was down to spending power then Man Utd would have won the league this year as they pay higher wages than any other PL side, arguably the biggest spending power.

I am obviously not including teams outside the top 4/5.

The top 4/5 can all spend the same and my point relates to them.

Sorry but you're not right. City have the greatest spending power by far - just look at the transfer spending . Re wages there is a negligible difference with Man U.

              Sorry, but you’re not right.

The team that has spent the most each year has not won the league.

I think you are taking too much away from a masterclass from Pep. Yes they spent a lot, but so did others.
City have won this year due to Pep getting that team to play at a different level.

I didn't say that the team with the biggest spending power wins the league. Pep deserves credit yes but just look at the amount of money spent on that squad and then tell me who has matched it.

I know what you are getting at, I’m not trying to be difficult it’s just a difference of opinion.

It was when you said “City are streets ahead of any PL side. It’s down to spending power”.

My point is that Man Utd can spend just as much as City if they want which they have done, and more, over the past few years. I believe if Pep Guardiola went to Utd instead of City last season, then it would be Utd winning the league this year even if City spent more.

Part right part wrong. Pep spent very big money on areas where they were short. They get an injury or wish to rotate and a £40M + player comes on the pitch . Tell me another club in the EPL who can do that .

I can see what you are saying.

But my point remains because Man Utd could easily do exactly that if they wanted, but they have not had a manager with a strategy plan in the transfer window like City have had with Pep.

Utd have spent head and shoulders above City in recent years but found themselves not even in the top four.....

But I do see parts of your points, eg - Arsenal never spend enough so they have never done well enough. But on the contrary, Tottenham have never spent like the other clubs and yet they have been favourites in recent seasons/runner up.

I do agree that the money is in Manchester and that City have the vastly superior coach . But I do think that City owners have a "money is no object" attitude for the right players ( it was rather refreshing that they pulled out of buying Mahrez though ). I don't think that United have a hope in hell of matching them whilst Maureen is there.
