The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

The Members Tables

Prolific wing backs are the focus of Stoke Me A Clipper’s latest table, while vkux has been delving into the underlying statistics of forwards and midfielders priced under 9.0.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

5.5m defender a tricky spot now. Would be ideal for christensen if fit, and Jones/smalling makes it a difficult choice

Exactly. That's why I'm hoping to collect Arsenals 2 CS over next 2 GW then by then will be clearer which United or Chelsea defender is best

great idea... I have monreal currently and it does look good for them, defence and attack for next 2.
I plan on getting Christensen too, had hoped next week but think i'll hold as ling as possible and alos assess jone/smalling situation. Other DGW34 defenders don't look worth the investment and Tottenham a bit too expensive for playing MCI in one of their Double games

Which combo for WC? No FH and BB in 34. (Reason for thinking of C and D is would give extra player in week 35 (but A, B or the more expensive D probably better for 32-34)

    A Groß Barnes
    B Gudmundsson Murray
    C Gudmundsson Barnes
    D Gudmundsson Wood

    DDG—Ryan
    Christens/ Scheloto / Morgan / Cedric / Lowton
    Willian / Salah / Gudmo/ Gross / Mahrez
    Vardy / Luka / Auba

    Ryan / Pope
    Monreal / Smalling / Morgan / Dunk / Lowton

    Salah / Mahrez / Son / Willian / Gudmundson

    Auba / Lukaku / Vardy
    +0.5

    Gives 12 x 34 for BB, 6 x 35 and 11 x 37.

Plan is to roll over 33 trans, then possibly Monreal to another
    Utd def for 34?
I have really struggled over Keepers more than anything else and have tried so many combo’s to try and get DDG in but just doesn’t seem worth it for the money and flexibility to use elsewhere when Pope and Ryan will cover fine until 37 when I will look to swap for possibly Ederson.
    Any observations/ glaring errors????

I'm going Auba now, then to Lukaku for 34, but keeping enough cash behind to switch him to Kane in 36 without a hit, having played my FH in 35. I don't want to build in a hit into my WC plan, because something else will go wrong along the way.

No, unless weird things happen like he suddenly becomes prolific or Kane gets injured again. I can't afford them both without ripping up my team, so it's one and then the other for me.

true yeah. fairly set on who I want at this stage, plus no FH or wildcard too.
I guess those with a cheaper forward line will benefit in midfield!
my line up in midfield is:
              Salah / mahrez / willian / eriksen / mkihyaran.
so no cheapo options in there, which I'm hoping will pay off

Plan was WCing in gw33, but now thinking should I do it now.
Dont have any ManU defenders and they have SWA and would like to double up with De Gea.
Do it now, or is this stront enough GW32?

    Pope
    Alonso - Otamendi - Gomez - Åke
    Walcott - Sterling - Salah - Stanislas
    Auba - Firmino

So dont like the Walcott (mci), but everyone else looks fine for gw32?
Probably someone can can be rotated and have Quaner and Milijonevic coming off the bench.

not sure I fully agree there. TOT and CHE are well known for their defences to be fair. Neither likely to concede a huge amount but I'd be happy if Willian and Eriksen score a goal or even assist to be honest.
the fear is Wilson vs Watford.. awful team and BOU are so attacking, but the long line of 2 pointers from him puts me off. That plus I know if I play Wilson the decision between Willian and Eriksen is a lottery.
knowing my luck will pick the wrong one.
        thanks for the reply

I would do Murray -> Barnes to free up cash to upgrade the defence. Fernandez and Naughton are more nailed than VdH, I reckon. And Morgan is more nailed than Chilwell. I also think Robertson is a rotation risk at the minute with CL commitments. Otherwise, it's the same as my GW34 team will be, so very well done!

I think there's value in Swansea defenders. Good GW34 fixture and an excellent double in 37. Probably won't need to play them any otehr week, and Naughton and Fernandez are super-cheap. They could easily keep a clean sheet against EVE and outscore a dgwk Brighton defender, for example.

Need a support group for those without freehit (all other chips intact).

What the hell are we going to do ?.

Best i can come up with is
    TC 34
    WC 35
    BB 37.

Is this the best possible strategy?

Yeah I think this is the best one, although expect a lot more rotation with BB in 37 than in 34... The other options obviously is to WC now and just have Liverpool players in your team and so on, Burnley too, might still BB 37 and TC 34 cause you ain’t getting many doubles in 34 this way

WC 35 you may well already be priced out of targets? Too little time to benefit from transfers in my opinion.

Me WC Now, BB 34, struggle perhaps with 7/8 in 35 and TC in 37 .

Any observations/ glaring errors other than lack of CHE DE GFS ????

Based on nailedness really. Plus you've got DDG as United cover. Don't trust Smalling as for now but is great value if nailed

As i have all my chips left, what is everybody's experience/preference when it comes to either

    1) BB double gameweek
    or
    2) TC double gameweek

what do you think has a higher points ceiling?

    1. james 101
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

      Depends on your teammate.

I mean if you have a strong bench, that can bring points, but we've all seen what a player like Salah or Kun can do on their day...

    2. My Name Is Prince
      • 11 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

BB gives you a lot of “free” points in a double as long as you have certain (or close to certain) starters, and a lot more chance for attacking returns as well, twice as long, so it’s of course amazing!

TC can be nailed in any week really, although the likelihood is a bit more in a double, but for instance the correct week this season would have been Salah in a single week...

Why are people wasting a transfer over Auba > Lukaku when Kaku could easily beat him over (SWA, mci) anyway.

Fair point 🙂 maybe go both? (see below)

    2. QuintonFortune25
      • 7 Years

Both are highly likely to score well over next 3/4 GWs and probably til the end of the season. Therefore easiest way to decide is to just get them both!

Can’t the see the value in 2 expensive striker when only one of them or Salah will be captain.

      Auba (GW32-33)
      Kaku (GW34)
      FH35
      Kane (GW36-38)

      Seems the best strategy.

Because having Auba now and Lukaku in 34 means I can afford Mkhi for the next two as well, and those two Arsenal fixtures are just too tempting.

Are you going Kane and Lukaku for GW37 when both have DGW?

If so, maybe this is a reason to go Auba and Lukaku in WC now to avoid saving cash or spread the cash too much?

    1. QuintonFortune25
      • 7 Years

Exactly what I'm doing yes. Much easier to find the extra cash for Auba to Kane than Vardy or Firmino to Kane

      1. GE
        • 7 Years

Agree, think I will just go both. More frustrating to see Lukaku go riot against Swansea if you don't have him than Vardy/Firmino going riot.

    3. Karan14

Nope better value elsewhere. I’m going Kane Vardy J.Ayew for 2nd DGW.

City mid, Hazard, Spurs mid & Mkhi all could be great options for GW37 and having Lukaku means I can’t spread the cash.

      1. GE
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

So you will have Lukaku now or Auba and then to Kaku in Gw34?

          Auba (GW32-33)
          Kaku (GW34)
          FH35
          Kane (GW36-38)

          Seems the best strategy.

Interesting, Thanks 🙂 but then you have to save cash for Kaku -> Kane? That's tough if Kane get injured and such a waste of saving. Maybe Kane in for Kaku in GW37 and use 2FT?
