World Cup Final Transfer Tips: The Big Numbers

The World Cup final between France and Croatia takes place this Sunday, but McDonald’s FIFA and Fantasy iTeam managers ought to be aware that the third-place play-off between Belgium and England – which takes place on Saturday at 3pm – also counts towards their Fantasy scores.

Although rotation can be expected for this hollow match between the losing semi-finalists, the fact that Fantasy managers get five free transfers in the McDonald’s FIFA game (three in Fantasy iTeam) ahead of this final round ought to be more than enough to enable a full starting XI at the very least.

That we will know the line-ups for the third-place play-off before the final World Cup Fantasy window shuts on Saturday afternoon will also help with our squad selections.

While we can confidently predict the full-strength starting XIs for France and Croatia ahead of the final, Saturday’s play-off tie is sure to feature some peripheral Belgian and English squad players. Fantasy managers would, therefore, be advised to look out for team news an hour or two before kick-off as there could well be some Fantasy differentials with low ownership on display that could help reduce or consolidate a mini-league deficit.

Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is available to Fantasy Football Scout members as part of their yearly subscription, provides clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

What is the general feeling about Mahrez?
Great option as a cheaper way into the city attack ahead of Sterling, and Sane (popular picks last season)...and may even be in line to take penalties if Aguero isn't on the pitch?
Or will he struggle with a move to a big club, and be too heavily rotated?

You're about to be told to leave him alone for the time being as he'll be 'slowly integrated' by lots of people who chat with Pep regularly about his plans.

Can't argue with a 'slight rotation risk' line, though. They are all clearly rotation risks.

Not convinced that he'll start every game, if he does though he will be a great option. However, his penalties whilst with us were dreadful and he was soon taken off them in favour of Vardy. Doubt Pep would let him take them.

Like him, think he's the sort of player who could deliver with a high quality of players around him.
At that record price I'd think we'd see him played early doors; 195 points last season and the talisman for Leicester (scored 40% of their attacking points) so an effective FPL player (when not trolling us end of the season!)
I like the 9.0 price tag for opening day pickup I think; but I'm looking to probably own Kun and maybe Laporte.

I´m probably starting with him and 2 4.5m mids.
Of course, if he gets rotated too much I´ll turn him and one 4.5 mid in to lets say Wally and Stanislas so not a big issue.

Pre-season may help us, but my guess is he'll probably start GW1/2 and then it depends how he does (and I think early on he'll probably do well, motivated by the move and the new environment). No city Mid, or forward for that matter, is going to play every game, but could still score well.

There are many players I'm tempted on as they will likely play the opening couple of game whilst others return from the world cup.

Shaw, Martial, Mahrez, Aurier, Pedro, Morata.

Trouble is there is way too much uncertainty as to when the EC players will return, who will be first choice once they are back.

          Laporte too uncertain for me.

I don't dislike Ederson, but I feel De Gea is a better option (nailed on United defender) and plenty of better options in City attack.

      A.

Ederson brilliant option. Mendy could be (hopefully) or maybe Otamendi and forwards are a minefield.

Currently on Ederson + Ota + Mahrez + Aguero but probably gonna drop Mahrez

Interesting which tactic Pep will favour at City to open the season. If he sticks with 4-3-3, Sane and Mahrez remain good options. If he reverts back to 3-5-2, which he opened last season with, Jesus suddenly becomes an option, the appeal of Walker and Mendy immensely rises and we will potentially have two starting 5.5 centre backs to choose from. 3-5-2 would also reduce the appeal of Sane and Mahrez imo.

Definitely an early punt. He's cheap and holding a place for whoever shines in that bracket in the first couple or weeks. Think Chelsea will be light up front early on from the world cup and Pedro could be given a start or two.

Hi all. Followed this site as a non-member last season and loved it so signed up for next season!

First post and an early draft team. Please rate and be honest!

    Eder, Stekel
    Robo, Coleman, PVA, Daniels, SWard
    Salah, Sane, Gudmon, siggy, dealufeo,
    Aguero, Zaha, Kamara

Trying bench fodder up front this season as I see better value in defence and midfield cheap options, ie PVA, Coleman, Gudmon, etc, over Barnes, Austin, Wilson, etc. Thoughts?

      Worth a look on Sarri's tactics: http://www.thefalse9.com/2017/11/maurizio-sarri-tactics-napoli-formation.html

Think one of Moses or Alonso has a chance to play the Ghoulam role bombing on IF Sarri imports his favoured system. Azpi I think is the versatile Mr Dependable (Hysaj) who can play RB or LB or in a 3 ofc if he chooses to stay with it!

Azpi in my FPL team but will need to see how Sarri's Cheslea look early on

    Fact check;

The reason Alonso isn't going to be a good option under Sarri is not because he's going to play Left-Back rather than Left-Wingback.
It's because he's not a very good footballer and Sarri won't play him at all.

He cant defend. And the only reason he looks good going forward is the fact that because he has a stupidly attacking position, he frequently ends up doubling up on the opposition defense, leaving him unmarked.

What a stupid way to look at it. He was a defender with a free role. Will go down in FPL history.

Why is it stupid? Hes poor defensively which is clear for all to see. You're deluded.

He isn't an exceptional LB, agree, but decent at defending and more than decent attacking which makes him a great LWB, perfect for 3-4-3
So you can't say he isn't a good footballer.

I'd say that's what Jorginho is coming in for, to screen for the fullbacks when they bomb forward.

You've never seen Jorginho play if you think he is going to cover for the FBs when they attack. Chelsea also have this Kanté fella who is the best defensive midfielder in the world right now.

Just going to post this as a non-reply.

Looks like Auba only started 3 games "on the wing" (may have miscounted), scoring 3 goals in the process. Laca scored 2 in those games.
    _________________________
Goals scored while both were on the pitch (while not starting the game together:

    Stoke
    --Auba: 1 + 1 (P)
--Laca: 1 (P) - Aubameyang praised by Wenger for letting Laca take the penalty

    West Ham
    --Laca: 2

Again, apologies if I've miscalculated. Laca could be a great option. Auba is more of a goalscorer from what we can see with the eye test and history, but Laca could prove value, and even push him for goals if the attack is strong, fluid and punishing enough.

Yet to be seen who's on pens, though. And you'd think if anyone was less nailed, it would be Laca. Let's see if there's any tansfer business for a left-(or any-) sided attack (Zaha or Martial please!!!!) too.

I'd love to save that Auba money, but at the moment the security of starts (and goals) from Auba seems worth the money.

It's not a great idea to draw many conclusions from this, for multiple reasons, but I would conclude that Aubameyang will score goals, regardless of where he plays, and that Lacazette shouldn't be discounted yet. That's all, folks 🙂

If Laca is starting through the middle I think he's the better option. A lot you can do with 1.5m.

Yeah maybe you are right Lacazette is being overlooked for some reason. You would think he would have attracted more than 2.3% ownership considering there is a good chance he might match or even outscore PEA during the opening weeks at least.

I wonder what his ownership was going into the start of last season?

All about pre-season innit. If he does well, there ownership could swap. If not, it remains as-is, or plummits to 1% if looks even less nailed than he currently is.

The thing with Laca at 9.5, though, is that Arsenal have other attacking options who've been reasonable priced. Lacs has shown so far to be happy to work for the team and share the goals, which makes Ramsey, Mkhi and even Ozil potentially better value, since they are candidates for each goal scored. Whichever FBs are most nailed would also be involved in the attack, and we might want Arsenal assets from the back too.

Auba, on the other hand, will get you your goals. With money saved elsewhere you can pay for these absolute points, and it might even prove to be value for money. Laca just isn't potent enough in our imaginations, and for good reason. But the end of last season shows that he could actually start flying this year. Could...

I like both Aubameyang and Lacazette. They never trolled me last season, unlike other big names 😛

I think they like playing together, and they should flourish with Mkhitaryan and Ramsey creating for them.

Not much of an analysis, sorry.

My post wasn't much of an analysis either 😀

I'd be very tempted to get both if it weren't for the first two fixtures. It's easier to waste money on the likes of Ramsey and Mkhi than on a 9.5 option. Aubameyang, on the other hand, doesn't feel like a waste, because he's a goalscorer at the top level.

Both are worth considering imo. The pricing of Arsenal’s players makes a double/triple up viable if they hit form.
