One week until ‘Wasting Your Wildcard’ book release

We are delighted to announce there is just one week left until the official launch of Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard‘.

Written by regular site contributor David Wardale and fully endorsed by Fantasy Football Scout, it will be released on Thursday July 26, to plug the painful gap between the end of the World Cup and start of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Subtitled ‘The Method and Madness of Fantasy Football’, the book is being published by Penguin’s respected sports imprint, Yellow Jersey Press, and is packed with hints and tips from some of the best Fantasy managers out there.

But it is as much about the people as the game, with stories of glory and despair, mini-league skulduggery and humiliating failure and the strange grip the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in particular has on managers from Australia to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between.

There are in-depth interviews with FPL champions and Fantasy-mad Saudi princes, a comprehensive look at the eternal conflict that is stats versus ‘the eye test’ and chapters on the history of the game, the all-conquering beast that is Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and what the future of Fantasy Football might look like.

There’s also a revealing section on our very own Mark, detailing the methods behind his successful approach to playing FPL.

Written by a fan for the fans, we think Wasting Your Wildcard will inform and entertain in equal measure, while grappling with the reasons behind why we, as supposedly grown-up men and women, cannot resist playing a game of footballing dress-up.

And to give you a taste of what you can expect, we’re planning to publish an exclusive extract for newsletter subscribers in the very near future.

The comparison between Zaha and Arnautovic is pretty interesting. Thats whats doing my head in. Both started as wide men now tend to play up top. If Pellegrini decides to make Marko strike it will be interesting. Which one would you guys pick I can't call it.

      Zaha because of fixtures

Zaha. I've barely considered Arnie due to his fixtures. If there's any doubt about Zaha starting in the front two, I would get neither.

Zaha. Dominant attacking force on the Palace team. Arnautovic was a better pick last season as a mid. Now Hammers have more attacking threats so his share of their FPL points will prob reduce. I'm starting with Tosun.

West Ham's early fixtures mean no Arnie for me, and there seem to be question marks over Zaha. Zaha would be a maybe depending on pre-season.

Leicester are a really interesting 'wait-and-see' team this year. Tough opening fixture so happy to wait, but Diamante looked good at the end of last season and I honestly think James Maddison will be an England international by March.

I think Gray will lose out to James Maddison who's on my watch list, maybe even in my team.
Great free kick, corner taker and has a super strike of the ball on both feet.

He's not a winger though, he's a number ten, so he won't replace Gray at all. Both will probably start (depending on remaining signings)

    Please RMT

New Chelsea GK (Schmeichel or Cech)/Fabianski

    Cedric, Daniels, Dunk, Lejeune, Tomkins

    Salah, Mooy, Cairney, Neves, Ralls

    Kane, Aguero, Aubameyang

    - 5 way rotation between defenders. Aim is to avoid playing those who are against top six side.
    - 4 way rotation between cheap midfielders who potentially could all be their clubs penalty taker.

    Thoughts?

Sorry, you need to start again.

Your budget is being swallowed by your 3 premium forwards and your midfield and defence are visibly suffering due to that, one of the worst I’ve seen on here.

Why do you think your three strikers are that important?

Spread the funds, it needs a better structure.

If that's the way you're going with your defence, fair enough.
Kane to Quaner and upgrade midfield.

Might stick with this very bold selection IF Schmeichel moves to Chelsea.

    Schmeichel
    Davies Kolasinac Shaw Clyne
    Sanchez Salah Mane Martial Hughes
    Auba

Subs: Boruc, Sorloth, Wan Bisaka, Quaner

Its very ballsy. All should be starting for the first few games and all with the exception of Hughes play for top 6 sides.

N.B: Clyne will start the season as Pool's right back. With a few good performances he could nail down that spot. If hes dropped, I can always swap for Lovren
Kolasinac I feel will start the season as LB for Arsenal ahead of Monreal. The added bonus is hes one of the most attacking full backs in the league.
Davies will start the opening two games while Rose is still rested. Hes good for an assist or two.
Shaw should start the season as Left back while Rose is rested

Transfers might be needed galore after a few weeks but I'm hoping it will be worth it, with Team Value also increasing.
Martial can be taken out for Mkhi and Mane can be upgraded to De Bruyne
Davies and Shaw can be taken out for two 5.5 million top 6 starters.

Some info on today’s match against Brentford.

Brentford went 1-0 up with Aubameyang equalising with a screamer into the top corner.

Leno fumbled a cross for Brentford to score a deserved winner.

debating on whether he'll outscore Josh King who would be my option as a FWD for the same price. Could play 4-4-2 with Jota or 4-3-3 with King, the fact that Jota doesn't have pens and King does annoys me.
