Best West Ham players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

West Ham United’s line-up for their trip to Anfield in Gameweek 1 will have a very different look to the side that sleepwalked to a 13th-place finish in 2017/18.

Summer signings Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m), Issa Diop (£4.5m), Fabian Balbuena (£4.5m), Ryan Fredericks (£5.0m), Jack Wilshere (£5.0m), Andriy Yarmolenko (£7.0m) and Felipe Anderson (£7.0m) all have realistic chances of starting against Liverpool a week on Sunday, while new manager Manuel Pellegrini has ditched the three-man backline favoured by predecessor David Moyes in favour of an attacking 4-3-3.

West Ham were a team of contradictions last season; no side conceded more league goals than the Hammers, but only the clubs finishing in the top seven kept more clean sheets.

Similarly, while their total of 48 goals scored was the eighth-best in the division, their underlying attacking statistics were mostly unremarkable – more of which we will discuss later in this article.

A grim-looking opening run of fixtures in which the Hammers play five of the “big six” in the first nine Gameweeks will likely deter too much Fantasy investment in Pellegrini’s side, but in Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) the east London club have a player bang in form and in high demand among Fantasy Premier League managers.

In-depth data on West Ham’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the feature below.

    Morning all, thoughts here?

    Ederson
    Bavies, Mendy, TAA
    Salah, Mane, Mkhi, Richarlison
    Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

    Boruc, Chalobah, AWB, Peltier

looks good, If arny and mkhi had better fixs I'd be on them too.

Yeah, I’m not sure about Mkhi. Great fixtures from GW3 but perhaps I should either switch to Pedro or downgrade Mendy -> a 4.5 and swap Mkhi -> D Silva.

Arnie’s in great nick and I think WHU will score plenty this year with their new look attack. 2 home bankers and I can see home scoring against ARS too in the first 4 weeks.

There's a decent chance that Davies is your only starting defender in GW 1.

I think that’d be pretty unlucky. TAA and Mendy are training and 1st choice (will monitor Mendy in the CS) and AWB & Peltier also appear to be first choice.

Do you think Mendy is nailed? I like your team. Prefer King and Wood over your 7.0s though.

Yep - Mendy is by far their best left back. King & Wood are also good options, but I’m edging towards Zaha & Arnie.

RMT(although i'm expecting some hate note rate)

    343
    Patricio (4.0)
    Luiz Shaw TAA (Scheltto, Peltier)
    Sanchez, Mane, Sane, Richarlison (Stephens)
    Kane, Firmino, Jimenez

toying with the idea of Firmino down to Zaha then improving my 5th mid and defence. Like having 2 wolves so any alterations osing Jimenez or Patricio would likely see Jota jump in.

Obviously not having Salah is dangerous but I understand people thinking he won’t repeat it! (As my name says! But I actually have him as see him as best captain early on). But considering you don’t have Salah I would expect a better defence. All of you’re defenders are rotation risks and potentially missing early games. I’d try add 1-1.5mil into defence to help sort it.

yeah that's fair. I have a feeling that one of Shaw or TAA will explode though. Think David Luiz is nailed playing Sarri ball better than the other center backs at chels. The other defender i'm really keen on is Mendy, but he's not exactly nailed either lol

Yeh I’ve gone Ederson because he is more nailed, but would prefer Mendy if I knew he was starting. Shaw no chance, out of the team as soon as Young is back. TAA should however be really good value but only once he returns to the team after WC break. I’ve got Robo so might downgrade to TAA later to free up funds.

        Tend to agree with this.

Shaw & Kane -> Mendy & Aguero/Auba and then use the extra 0.5 to upgrade one of your 4.0s to Tomkins.

Essentially I’m down to this... Is DSilva gonna outscore Zaha by a lot?

    A) PVA, Zaha, Neves(bench)
    B) Tomkins, DSilva, Sørloth(bench)

I like PVA far more than Tomkins as well so if people think DSilva and Zaha might return similar then Zaha would be the better value, but really can’t decide. Any thoughts?

    1. athreya
      • 11 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

Over first few weeks Dilva will outscore I think. There is also Zaha’s potential transfer in real life to consider. If he goes to Chelsea for example his value goes up imo.

I am starting with Dilva and I have Arnie. Easy to switch to Zaha if he’s on fire or goes to Chelsea.

      1. Jackie Moon
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Yeh I have Arnie as well ATM. DSilva instead of Zaha just makes my defence look weak and I quite like the value in attacking defenders like PVA, Coleman, Robertson who are all in my team, but really not liking the 4.5 defenders I would need to choose from if I get DSilva.

I actually feel Zaha is better value at Palace. He’ll most likely play up front and be their main attacking threat, but at Chelsea I see him warming the bench too often.

    mooy, salah, jota, mahrez
    firminio, aguero, Kamara
bench, fabianski, wan bissaka, enobakhare, zanka.

De Gea Bailly look soverkill. Plus De Gea and Fab is wasting money.

Wood got hooked due to injury yesterday so you'll have to track that. I'm in the same boat

  18. Hotdogs for Tea
    • 8 Years
    5 years, 9 months ago

I have never tracked it, but I suspect that if I had just stuck with certain players in certain positions (pick and forget) irrespective of short term form or fixtures, then that slot of the 11 players in my team would have yielded more points than the accumulated number of points that position provided with the chopping and changing with hits etc.

Obviously injuries and double or blank game weeks need to be considered on their merits

For example, if you are playing a 352 then a fifth mid that guarantees 110 - 120 point (Fernandinho, Jorginho, Kante), why not just take those points ? Same for a nailed premium defender etc.

Inevitably we transfer out a player that has blanked for a few weeks and he then hauls - Alonso last season @ 6.5 was only outscored by mids who cost 8.5, so why not just hold 3 or 4 such players ?

I think I may adopt this idea this season 🙁

I’m aiming to adopt this philosophy in respect to my defence this season. Premium keeper, 4x premium defenders from last season’s top 5 and just stick with them unless they get injured.

      We’ll see how patient I am though... it’ll be a test 😉

      1. Rotation City
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

I believe premium defenders carry great value generally, but I'm approaching it a bit differently this time. I think defences will be weak with World Cup absentees, and 3 of the big 6 playing each other, I'm putting money elsewhere initially. Then I'll stack my def on the first WC once we know what's what.

hard to sit on a premium defender that has blanked with 1 pointers for three weeks running though or a 10.0 mid when others are hauling big time .... but i may just do that with a few players

Why aren't people going for Babies? He was the best defender in the game at this point last year, and has (new, FUL) to start. Granted he won't be playing LWB but he's nailed as Rose went to the WC.

Think playing LWB is a huge part of his appeal. Those runs into the box, shots and assists are probably going to plummet.

Ahhh ok. Thanks for his, I hadn’t realised. Definitely replacing him... who has been playing LWB in pre-season?

Kyle Walker-Peters has had the most time there I think.

I’ve got Davies and not overly concerned given he’ll only be at CB for two games max, if at all. I want him long term so it’s okay.

The alternative would be Aurier who seems have had an excellent pre-season at RWB by all accounts.

Their CBs are knackered and the they've been playing 4atb in preseason

Personally I won pick any Spurs players atm. Davies were only player from their starting 11 who were not in the WC. Afraid that Spurs is not fresh enough at the beginning of the season.

They still have a deep squad and their first two are wonderful.

The bandwagon on arsenal is just ridiculous at this stage. They are a clear wait and see approach. We have no indications of how much they are going to improve and the fixtures are just atrocious. So much easier to wait until gameweek 3 to see who’s nailed and see how they line up .

Pretty sure they stopped before the end of last season so I wouldn't be counting on it.

Turns out the “leak” was Danny Ward, who’s now gone to Leicester, so no! 😆

Have a look back through their tweets when Ward left.

From what I can gather, they were getting the info from Ward, via the local fella who used to drive him around or something mad 😆

Solid. My 11 is very similar. Have you considered Fabi/Robbo -> Ederson/TAA?

    A) Davies & Austin
    B) TAA & Zaha

Or would you pick another combo with the same amount of money?

      I'd go kamara or quaner

Quaner is an avoid based on this comment from a fan:

It was never the plan to have him as a starter last year but with Kachunga injured and Ince heavily underperforming, Quaner played a lot of games and even managed to find 4 assists. His crosses from the back line were not bad actually. That being said, with the addition of Sobhi and Diakhaby, and Kachunga back in the team, there is no place for Quaner. He is next to Malone and Hefele the third player not invited to the training camp in Vienna and should be on his way out. So to the 7 pct of participants with Quaner in your squad. Don’t.

4-4-2 atm so assume your question still remains, have Quaner in there currently.
