FPL Fixtures: Early guide to possible blank and double Gameweek dates

Manchester City’s victory over Liverpool last night marked the end of a hectic festive period in which 40 Premier League matches were contested across 14 days.

FA Cup third round weekend now brings some welcome respite in which to take a cursory look at the weeks and months ahead.

We’re only six Gameweeks away from the first mini-blank of the season, with the final of the EFL Cup set to be contested on the same weekend as Gameweek 27 in the Premier League.

Barring any seismic shocks in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, Manchester City’s Gameweek 27 match against Everton will be one of the Premier League games to fall victim of that schedule clash.

Burnley v Spurs or Chelsea v Brighton could also be affected, depending on which of the London sides triumphs in their forthcoming semi-final.

Gameweeks 31 and 33 will also very likely be blanks for some top-flight teams, with the FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals set to take place on those weekends.

At the moment, the much-anticipated “double Gameweeks” look likely to be in Gameweeks 32 and 35, given that the midweeks following those scheduled Premier League fixtures are the only ones not affected by European club competition or the March international break.

Forward-planning is not just about navigating the blanks and doubles, of course, but factoring in which top-flight sides have a congested fixture schedule around their league games.

Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City are in EFL Cup action twice in January, while those three clubs plus Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal recommence their UEFA Champions League/Europa League campaigns from the middle of February onwards.

We’ve cobbled together a calendar for the remaining Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season, though in some cases (Premier League fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, FA Cup from fourth round onwards) the dates are subject to change due to the whims of the relevant television broadcasters.

The FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League finals take place after the Premier League season ends, on Saturday May 19, Wednesday May 29 and Saturday June 1 respectively.

The excellent Ben Crellin is an invaluable resource at this time of year, particularly his “percentages” spreadsheets regarding the chances of all 20 Premier League clubs being without a fixture on a blank Gameweek.

Chances of Wilson dropping tonight (-97 on FPL stats)? If so, move to Arnie for a FT? Thanks!

Doubt very much he’ll drop. Wildcards have skewed prices and transfers will slow down massively now for the next week.

When will today's signings be added to FPL? Want to bring Clyne in as a bench option & have exact money to do it, but also 3 Liverpool players.

Hey guys. Mind imparting some advice?

    Fabiabski
    Robertson / Digne / Kolasinac
    Hazard / Son / Pogba / Martial
    Kane / Aubameyang / Ings

    Hamer // AWB / Camarasa / Doherty

    Which looks better? 2 FTs.
    A) Kane/Martial >> Rashford/Salah
    B) Aubameyang/Son >> Salah/Rashford

A leaves 0 ITB. B leaves 0.1 ITB, for Kolasinac >> TAA, perhaps. Rashford could also be Arnautovic. Read the article earlier. Aubameyang has some crazy stats... Tougher fixtures though!

Nah, as Rashford is close to rising. Not unless I combined it with a -4 elsewhere.

Not sure who I'd captain this week. Not having Salah could hurt.

Actually - I take it back. I can do it potentially, but only if Salah doesn't rise. Doesn't look likely.

Which plan would you go for to get in Salah with this team (I have 2FT and 0.8m ITB)?

    Fabianski - Button
    Alonso - Robertson - Doherty - Digne - Kolasinac
    Hazard - Sané - Pogba - Richarlison - Højbjerg
    Kane - Rashford - Jiménez

I have for example looked at these:
    A) Alonso/Hazard --> TAA/Salah
    B) Kolasinac/Sané/Rashford --> AWB(4.4m)/Salah/Kamara

    Thoughts/Suggestions?

    1. lankdog
      • 7 Years

Way too much money on the bench and in defence imo - could do Alonso/Sane --> Salah/Bednarek but I think you'd need to find 0.1 m somewhere else, or could do Alonso/Rich/Sane --> AWB/Fraser/Salah

Only if none of the teams concerned need a FAC4 replay though, right? I can't see any other feasible slot than GW25.

Much more likely that they go back to GW32/35 I'd have thought. The FA aren't usually the sharpest about this kind of thing and to bring the GW27 blanks forward they'd have to move pretty fast.

I like Ake but they have had so many more bad deals than good ones. Mings is 25 and terrible, Ibe has completely flopped and has been linked with moves away and Solanke is a good player, but he's a striker who has scored 1 professional goal at 21. £20m?

For transfers every few transfers like this, they've got players like Fraser/Wilson/Brooks/Ake/Lerma etc.

Hazard blips but does well over a season.

        Andersson fixtures downturn slightly.

Im far from married to Hazard, he'd be an easy route back to City mid.

He does blip but scores well but I got rid of him again several weeks ago as don't want to spend that money on captain magnet who blanks like he does. 2 double figure scores last 10. Not good enough. Anderson 2 more points last 10

Looking at the 6 heavy hitters

How many are you looking at having in the medium term?

    (Sterling/Hazard/Salah/Kane/Aubameyang/Aguero)

With 2 - minimum really (allows to load up with other very strong players)
With 3 - optimum possibly (still allows for good defence plus mid price high performers)
With 4 - potentially great... (looking to budget performers to deliver)

I’m on 3 but considering the move to 4 now we have plenty of info...

Poch on bringing Kane on at 6-0 up: "It is important too for the fans here and the opponents to enjoy Harry Kane, he's an icon in England and not everyone can have the opportunity to see him. It was very nice for everyone."

    Black GW31
    DGW 32
    Blank GW 33
    DGW 35

That's going to take some negotiating, the usual strategy on loading up on players with two DGW's by using WC the week before the first double is unlikely to be viable with GW31 being a likely multipal black GW.

        BB DGW35

Depends how many sides are out in these blank GWs and double gws- the first blank is two games - Man City, Everton and Chelsea/spurs as worries - it’s not a complete disaster- you wouldn’t want to play Everton players against city anyway
