Aston Villa return to FPL after play-off final win

Aston Villa will return to the Premier League in 2019/20 after winning the Championship play-off final on Monday afternoon.

The Villans, managed by Dean Smith, beat Derby County 2-1 with goals from Anwar El Ghazi and John McGinn.

They join Norwich City and Sheffield United in the top-flight for 2019/20, who secured their passage through the automatic promotion positions.

Following relegation in 2015/16, Aston Villa endured three seasons in the second-tier of English football.

But they will be back on FPL once again this summer.

At this early stage, it is difficult to tell exactly who will be the key Fantasy assets.

For example, Tammy Abraham finished the season as Villa’s top goal-scorer in the league having found the net 25 times.

However, it is currently uncertain where he will be playing his football in 2019/20.

Abraham has been on loan at Villa Park from Chelsea this year and could be back at Stamford Bridge by August.

Maurizio Sarri’s Blues are currently under a transfer embargo and will be unable to sign any players in the summer transfer window.

Therefore, they may require Abraham’s services in 2019/20.

“You can never say never (about coming back to Aston Villa). First of all, I’ve got to enjoy it with the boys tonight, you know. But you can never say never. We’ll see what God has planned for me.” – Tammy Abraham

However, Abraham is not the only Aston Villa player to have achieved promotion as a loanee.

El Ghazi was a star performer in the play-off final as he scored the opening goal and provided the assist for the second.

He has been on loan at Villa from Lille this season so will need to have his situation sorted in the coming months.

At the other end of the pitch is centre-back Tyrone Mings who has been on loan from Bournemouth.

Axel Tuanzebe and Kortney Hause have also been on loan from the top-flight, from Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

In the next few days, we will have more information on Villa manager Dean Smith as well as some data on the key assets in both defence and attack.

Who do Newcastle sign first? Man city’s newborn cousin. Improvements needed up front, on the wing, in midfield and at full backs. A strong young core to begin with and one big statement signing to come

This could be our chance to have bale back in our FPL teams what a perfect signing that would be to start it all off, Man City Robinho style

Just read about this. Guess they won't be signing Rondon then 🙂

Have to say, its exciting and everything, but I hate it when new money is the reason for a shake up. Sad that ordinary working class fans have to hope that a rich oil magnate buys their team to get anywhere whilst their own lives are sucked down the toilet by austerity and such.

        Seems unlikely lol.
Corbyn is on the march now if the rest of the English working class are serious about their dissatisfaction then they’ll give up on the party without a manifesto and turn to the only man who genuinely wants to help them

Would be much better off signing players like Sancho, AWB, Creswell, Rice, Brooks, Sessegnon etc. IMO with someone else like a Zaha.

Build up a good core of youngsters who can develop together. Then as you climb the leagues replace players like Zaha with better players.

I'm not getting carried away yet, we've been here before. My take on any club outside the top 6 having a new owner is that the club needs to build a strong core before splashing serious cash. The last 2 pl teams to be successfully bankrolled are City and Chelsea. Look at the core both teams had.
Chelsea: Cech, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Ivanovic, Lampard, Drogba.
City: Hart, Kompany, Zabaleta, Yaya, Silva, Aguero.

These 6 players were the backbone of the team with other players filling in other positions. Bear in mind, both the above teams have had plenty of big money moves that haven't worked out but the strong core carried the team through.

The opposite is what Fulham did this season. Spent 100m on a ton of players and no cohesion between them. New owners need to be patient and let the team possess a few leaders who will stay at the club before expecting to compete with the big boys

In answer to your question, I think all positions aside from GK and CB can be seriously improved, but I'd prefer gradual change.

City got taken over in 2008. They did not win the title until 2012.

Just because you have money does not mean the big players come to you. You have to climb the mini-leagues in the PL. First get into the mid-teams league (Leicester, Everton, Wolves). Then into the good teams league (Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs). Then the elite league (Man City, Liverpool).

It might take quite a lot of player turnover to get there although I agree with you on having some young core players to build around.

Look at City - they had Robinho, Elano, Sturridge, SWP, Dunne in 2008/09. When they won the title in 2011/12 this had switched to Aguero, Silva, Balotelli, Toure, Lescott.

Wouldn't this hot topic make much more sense if anything had actually happened? I think its far more likely than not that the deal falls through at this stage.

Yes, of course! But as it hasn't happened, I figured it would be worthwhile thinking about the kind of players Newcastle need to sign - that's valid whether or not this deal goes through or doesn't

But there's a world of difference in the players they would target depending on whether they are under new ownership or not. The OP was talking about Gareth Bale, whereas if there's no new ownership they'll be looking at trying to get Rondon to sign permanently. Those 2 players are worlds apart in terms of profile, transfer fee, abilities and wages.

Who's the best non-British/Irish player to have played in the Premier League NOT for a current top 6 side?

        For me it's Juninho (Middlesbrough);

but honourable mentions also go to: Paulo Di Canio (Sheffield Wednesday/West Ham), Tim Cahill (Everton), Tony Yeboah (Leeds), Yakubu Ayigbeni (Everton/Middlesbrough/Portsmouth) Jay Jay Okocha (Bolton) and Mark Viduka (Leeds/Middlesbrough).

Can anyone tell me if south africa in first round of world cup fantasy can be considered to be having double gw since they have 2 matches in first round ? Is it ideal to captain on of their players to get double points ?

Why the F are Japan and Qatar playing in the Copa America? I mean I read they are special invitees to make up 12 teams, but why only them? Any insights on what criteria did they use for extending invites?
