With Bournemouth sitting third in our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of 2019/20 and meeting only two of the ‘big six’ in that time, there will be plenty of interest in their Fantasy assets from the off.

Despite £2.0m price hikes, Ryan Fraser (£7.5m) and Callum Wilson (£8.0m) currently sit in more than one in five Fantasy Premier League squads – although the ‘auto-pick’ selections will be skewing Wilson’s figure slightly.

Joshua King‘s (£6.5m) ownership is also in excess of 20% at the time of writing.

We have already taken an in-depth look at King and Wilson in a Members’ article, which examines the pair’s attacking credentials in a direct head-to-head comparison.

This Numbers Game piece will explore Bournemouth’s wider attacking threat but also analyse their defensive numbers from 2018/19.

Nathan Ake (£5.0m) is, perhaps surprisingly given the Cherries’ well-documented problems at the back, currently the most popular FPL defender in the £4.5m-£5.0m bracket, having been drafted in by over 16% of FPL bosses.

I did it last season, to great effect (21 points, carried by AWB). I was happy, but won't be doing it this season, as I don't care enough to craft a suitable bench. I definitely won't be holding on to it for DGWs however.

Sheffield Utd irk me. My biases and pre-packaged wisdom tell me they'll put up a valiant effort but ultimately fall short, a la Cardiff of last season. But if Wilder's weird tactics can translate even partially to the PL, I'm sure that will create chances which could lead to juicy points... Is it worth a gamble however?

Fixtures, price and the fact that their best chance for points is early season suggest they are worth a look. I've got O'Connell and have considered sharp.
They'll likely get relegated though. And they still need to buy half a squad.

      I’m quite possibly going for a 4.5 in a 4 man backline. O’Connell seems a nice punt.

SU early fixtures aren’t too horrid. I’m not expecting the world but he’s got a fascinating profile and I fancy he could earn me more than a 5.0 5.5 mid which would be the alternative

Sterling versus aguero is an interesting one. Sterling scores more points but has had lower ownership. I hardly ever had sterling last season and didn't feel like it ever really hurt me (only 17k overall so it probably did). However captaining aguero for one hat trick seemed a huge boost. Not captaining him for another (and taking him out for the final one) seemed to hurt massively.

Is this just down to ownership? Will probably change this year?

      kun for me
easier to swap with kane auba etc if theres injury etc
with ster in my team an salah plus premium defence i have 3, 6.5 forwards, no flexibility to change there
also i hate not owning aguero , capable of a haul, populer captain pick to
just wish i could have ster to!

Why are you limiting yourself, it shouldn't be always a like for like replacement. If you prefer Aguero that's fine but Sterling can be replaced by so many mids.

          • 11 Years

true ster can be replaced, as can salah etc
not limiting myself, just feel its more balanced
harder to replace 6.5 forwards with same price or lower if they get injured, dropped, out of form etc

Quick look at fixtures and pick two. If there were obvious ones they wouldn't be 4.5m.

And whichever you pick, you'll get the wrong ones. And if you get the right ones you'll rotate them wrong anyway.

      It's not for me.

Vvd was a wretched own early on for me. So frustrating. Digne only enters my thoughts at all if Everton buy big up top. But again last season’s experience with him is a major deterrent. Looking for a preponderance of regular returners not streak players.

Townsend kept pace with Zaha for most of last season - it was only when Bats came in that Zaha kicked on.

He's not an exciting pick I grant you and is a slight placeholder but he's nailed and consistent. Yarmolenko is an option but I distrust minutes in that midfield,

May I ask which combo scores more?

    A: Kane & Ryan
    B: Vardy & Ederson

      B. I think Vardy could match Kane this year plus Ederson will easily outscore Ryan

Azpi, Luiz is just a bad defender which his running around like a headless chicken when under pressure.

But they get the same clean sheets and Luiz is more of an attacking threat?

He does that right footed kick to Pedro/ Willian/ Hazard in the top right corner and occasionally ends up with an assist. But exactly him been that exposed at times for no good reason in my opinion costs them the same amount on CS on the other end.
He might be lucky and gets hit by someone on his head and by coincidence it ends up in the net, but not very often, he's no Duffy.

      For me Aguero (12) + Salah (12.5) = maximum F + M flexibility to start the season.
