Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

Considering going for 2 strikers this year. How about this as a first draft:

    GK: Pope
    DEF: Robbo, Zinch, VVD, Dann
    MID: Perez, Ceballos, Sterling, Salah
    ATT: Kane, Wesley

    SUB: Ryan, Ayew, Dendoncker, Guilbert

Doubts: will Dann play? Ceballos will be arsenal's new number 10? Will ayew be starting when Zaha leaves crystal palace?

No need to have two 4.5 GKs as it will just be a rotation headache - and the extra 0.5, could help improve your team quite a lot

Coleman will have competition from Sidibie who is a better full back. Digne is nailed on in that team.

so all those people that owned Coleman before Sidibe signed have already transferred him out? have they even signed him yet?

        1. DAZZ
          • 12 Years

I think Digne is higher owned he quite obviously has more attacking threat, plus the corners and direct free kicks

I would expect him to be higher owned yes, but the difference is ridiculous - they had the same PPM last season and Coleman is cheaper

    Sorry bottomed.....

Hi guys, think this is me.
Going without Salah, just because I think Sterling and Kane are better options and will score more. Gone for a strong bench which is not popular around here, with the aim of rotating the likes of Ings,Wesley,Fraser,Lanzini,Pope,Heaton for their hard fixtures as well as having a strong option off the bench for inevitable rotations. Strongly believe that will add a ton of points and be more worthwhile then using the spare 2m to upgrade my team. In saying that, if it doesn’t go to plan or I money to hope onto someone in that 8.0-9.5 mil bracket then I’m only 2 transfers away.

    Would love your thoughts,

    Heaton
    TAA VVD Digne
    Sterling Moura Fraser Lanzini Tielemens
    Kane (C) Ings

    Pope Wesley Montoya Rico

He will use him in a rotation. Allows me to avoid fixtures like
        Ings (LIV)
        Wesley (tot)
        Fraser (mci)
        Ings (manu)
        etc

Could be a lot of points in allowing me to rotate.

Robinson would bother me with the new signing.

Guilbert and Heaton seems bold - had an issue with AWB and Guaita last season - both decent picks individually but together dicey and the Palace defence was very decent last time while Villa is completely unknown.

      1. Ask Yourself
        • 10 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

Fans are certain he starts due to his instant adaptation to the system in pre season. Guilbert only plays 1 in 2 games and after a short time heaton will become Pope. Heaton is a top keeper with a lot of save points potential whilst Guilbert looks like a huge assist threat, been looking over Villa pre season highlights

Maverick I like it. Problem with the formation is 2 non players on the bench. I think maybe Bilva and Wilson ? Gives you a nice city triple up that should see nice returns I think Bilva should do well this year and everton’s Lack of pre season goals has me worried. Think Wilson will explode over king once again and there will be a greater disparity in points between him and king that Bilva and KDB

first team post for 2019, I'm ready to cop it for a bit of imbalance, but this is the happiest I've been with my team.

Triple Bournemouth is risky. I'd get Jota instead of King

Like it a lot, has great balance, and lots of players you can easily swap out of should others emerge.

    A. Zinchenko, King and Jota
    or
    B. Two rotating 4.5 defenders, Wilson and Adams/Wesley

Everyone hating Jota...yes playing in Europe but had great pre season plus playing up top...worth a punt?

Wood has had a much better pre season, playing in Europe and doesn't get subbed every week

Jota is the most talented of the 6.5 strikers but a trip to Aremania three days before the season opener is a worry. I'll start with Wood or Deeney and easily sidestep towards Jota if needs be. There's also an opportunity that with his high ownership, tough fixtures and EL commitments his price will probably drop he blanks a few times, then, in GW6 when the fixtures turn, he will be available for a cut price.

    Thoughts on draft number 108?

    Pope
    VVD - Digne - Zinchenko - Ake
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - Perez
    Rashford - King

    4.0, Greenwood, Dendoncker, Lundstram

    Thanks guys!

    A) Wilson + VVD (4-4-2)
    B) Fraser + Robbo (4-5-1)
    Already have Trent

Taking a punt on Robinson as playing OOP. Sigurdson really was just safety/fixtures

I’m quite surprised that so many are opting for Wilson over King. I can’t see how he is justified being 1.5M dearer, especially when King has and could still be the main penalty taker. Plus King has played more minutes than Wilson in all of the last 3 seasons, and has scored more goals over the last 3 years. Wilson had the season of his life last year and still only scored the same amount of goals as King.

Can someone explain what has changed this year please?

Wilson was out injured for a good time last season.

There was a link to video posted a while ago, where Munday and Jonty compare players. Maybe someone can post it here?

That should make you donthe right thing and get Wilson at any cost...for the start at least

Wilson was injured, and was slowly starting to come back to form. Also combined with the fact he and Fraser were a great combination last season.

You made this up. Wilson played 400 minutes less, scored 2 more goals and got 9 more assists

*last season which is more relevant than previous seasons where Wilson was out for long periods

After reading an article on them here in FFS I was convinced the 1.5m is worth it.

What am I missing with all the King hate?

Nailed on striker, likely on pens, against two promoted teams first up.

Striker only really when Wilson is out. Half of his non pens last season came in the short period he played as cf in Wilson’s place. 4 in 28 when on wing or in support.
