Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is expected to be the most popular captain going into Gameweek 1 of the new season.

His Liverpool side play host to newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night.

The Canaries were particularly leaky at the back last season, even as they won promotion from the Championship.

Their goals conceded tally (57) in 2018/19 was the worst inside the top four and only four teams recorded worse than that in the division’s top 12.

By contrast, Manchester City were the only Premier League team (57) to score more than Liverpool in home matche last year (55).

With Sadio Mané‘s (£11.5m) involvement in Gameweek 1 hard to guarantee, Salah seems to be the obvious candidate to benefit from such an appealing opening fixture.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) could be an interesting difference-maker as Manchester City prepare for a trip to West Ham.

The Hammers could be without Mark Noble (£5.0m) and Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) in Gameweek 1 which would make them more vulnerable than they already are to the defending champions.

Manchester City scored four times on their last league visit to the London Stadium, with Sterling notching a goal and two assists.

The England international will also be in good spirits after scoring against Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£11.0m) is also pulling some support in ahead of Gameweek 1 as Spurs prepare for a meeting with Aston Villa.

No forward had more shots on target than Kane last season.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll below, which will be used in our Captain Sensible analysis article later in the week.

Anyone considering punting on Pepe? Those first two fixtures are amazing...

I reckon he comes off the bench against Newcastle but who knows

Yeah that's the problem. It seems likely he comes off the bench first game.

Awkward price point and might not start gw1

Best case scenario is 30-45 mins vs newcastle and then start vs Burnley. No chance he starts imo

Better start of with KDB then, and swap later. No reason for expensive punts at start of season

His price makes things interesting. There are two other 9.5 mids that are worth watching for - KDB and Son. I think the team's structure needs to have 9.5 mid 'placeholder' to easily swap out to whosoever is scoring. This is of course assuming that you would not want to swap out your typical 'season keepers' in Salah and Raz.

    bit weird but:

    A) KWP GW1 (Zouma + Wickham bench) - Zouma GW2
    B) 6.5 forward (Rico + Gibson bench)

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 10 Years

This does depend fairly heavy on who the 6.5 forward is mate who are you thinking of?

no idea 😀 would have 2 of them - any combo of Jota, Deeney, King, Gray, Locadia, Ings, Wesley, even Tammy & Wesley etc.

Martial looks set to be playing as a Centre Forward or at least a Wide Forward. He's played the most minutes out of everyone in pre-season so I think he's a good bet. Just not sure of the first 2 fixtures as they'll be tough.

Read this on a Bournemouth forum after Bournemouth beat Lyon 3-0:

"Rico unfortunately had a poor game when the LB spot was his for the taking. I think he may possibly have handed it back to Daniels for next weekend."

What's everyone's thoughts on the below?

    Alisson
    Zinchenko - Robbo - AWB
    Perez - Salah - Sterling - Barkley
    Wilson - King - Jiminez

    Bench
    Ryan, Kelly, Lundstram, Dendoncker.

Not sure on Barkley or AWB at the moment. Might do AWB>Digne then Barkley>£5.5 midfielder.

I would drop Alisson for a 4.5. and not sure about Jimenez at that prize. And Wilson+King is a bit too much? And upgrade bench.

Having held off posting all summer here's my third of the day.
My focus is having all of my cash in my starting 11.
I tried to spread it last season and had too many weeks with points on the bench (22, 20, 15 - not small numbers!)
My plan is to review this when I play my WC but I figure the start of the season, everyone should be fit, one or two injuries can be dealt with using transfers why not have the cash on the pitch, there are options across the price points in my team for tweaks as form comes into play.
    Fraser -> Martial...Vardy -> Lacca etc etc.

    Pope
    Shaw - VVD - Robbo
    Salah - KDB - Fraser - Perez - Barkley
    Vardy - Wilson

    Heaton - Kelly - Lundstram - Greenwood

0.5 ITB for a small upgrade if required in the first few weeks.

Let me know what you think!
