Premier League fixture list published as Manchester clubs blank in Gameweek 1

The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

Also check out Porstmouth Bubblejet’s fine work in identifying the clubs that rotate home and away fixtures in 2020/21.

    Leicester fixtures are juicy.

Justin, HBarnes & Perez too much?

Yeah, this is where the fixtures are a hindrance. Leicester finished the 2019 season superbly, but poorly the 2020 season

    Mcarthy
    TAA, Vinagre, Saliba
    Auba, Salah, Maddison, Soucek
    Kane, Werner, Mitro

    (Button, Justin, Ferguson, 4.5)

    What’s the verdict?

So after 2hrs of planning and tinkering and considering future transfers .... I think GW3 captain is quite relevant

Liverpool play Arsenal & City play Leicester ... so it’s either Werner if Chelsea show early form or Bruno.

I think I’ll start with Werner. Auba (c) first 2 GWs followed by Auba-> Bruno or KDB depending on whether I need Bruno captain or not.... will probably start with Greenwood on bench as can’t have too many placeholders/transfers first couple of weeks

Contemplating going without Salah ... which means I’ll just have TAA first 3 weeks and possibly no city either .... scary not owning Liverpool and city players

Thanks, yeah I know what you mean about Werner but I want to take a bit of a flier on him early.

Given fixtures it's an easy pivot to Ings or Jimi if it doesn't work out, which would free up some cash as well.

Anybody else not too bothered about the fixtures and think a lot of the players are fixture proof?

Spent years drafting in the likes of Kane and Auba because they have a sea of green but how many times does it actually work out?

Is there any actual hard evidence that certain players perform better in the easier fixtures? Because to be fair, for the big clubs, I consider most games to be easy in an attacking sense.

Aubameyang was always going to be in my team especially if he had half decent fixtures. Why are bookies odds for first goal scorer shorter against weaker teams. Because they are more likely to score. Especially if the smaller team is not set up to defend.

Nice little swing in fixtures for Liverpool, Wolves, Chelsea Tottenham ain't bad, City not terrible. Only MUN and Arsenal don't have it great in that period of like GW3-7.

Ok it’s not perfect but this is the sort of thing you can do for a WCGW3 where you can begin to capitalise on the city/United fixtures. Will do Salah > Fernandes GW2. Can be improved but what do u think x

Leno (ful, WHU) Nyland (X, X)

TAA (LEE, che) Davies (EVE, sou) Justin (wba, BUR) Saliba (X, WHU) Ferguson (X, X)

Salah/Bruno (LEE, CPL) Auba (ful, WHU) Son (EVE, sou) Maddison (wba, BUR) Soucek (NEW, X)

Vardy (wba, BUR) Mitro (ARS, Lee) Davis (X, X)
