Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 2?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are faced with a tough captaincy decision for Gameweek 2.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) go head-to-head again after huge opening-day hauls, but there are other FPL assets whose cases deserve examining too, including Sadio Mané (£12.0m), Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 2 Captain Poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Salah has dominated the vote so far.

The Egyptian midfielder, who produced a goal and two assists last time out, has gained 63.4% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United midfielder Fernandes currently in second place, backed by 19.79%.

Mahrez occupies third place with 2.88% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) and Mane, with 2.3% and 1.54% respectively.

MOHAMED SALAH AND SADIO MANE

Nothing from Rafa in the presser about why DCL missed training yesterday. Must be going to Spurs as Kane replacement 😉

    Bottomed. Reposting.

Super off topic question so forgive me: for 11 years running (except last year), I’ve traveled to the UK with my friends just to watch some premier league matches. This year, we are scheduled to go for the weekend of Sept. 17. With the rising cases, what is the environment like in the UK at the moment. Is it mostly normal? Are people going to pubs and bars? Trying to decide whether to go or cancel.

Again, sorry to be so off topic, but it’s hard to get actual news sometimes.

      Yep.

All we can really say with certainty is that Salah will be captained by more engaged managers than Bruno will. So it comes down to whether you want to play safe or play risky with the Bruno/Salah coin flip rather than whether you can somehow figure out which of the two will get more points.

Captaining Bruno is not 'risky' (ever). Captaining Mahrez for example is 'risky'.

Therefore I have decision making system. I use bookies odds and make some calculations. So if the end result isn't what I hoped for I have no regrets. I made correct choice but my C wasn't good enough and it's his fault, not mine.

Seeing a lot of people on here talk about the early kick off curse. Is this just because if your captain blanks in the first game the rest of the matches become an anxiety issue? Or do people really believe there is some kind of cosmic hoodoo?

Anyone got any first hand experiences of this curse? Or the opposite?

I suspect it may have its origins from occasions where big teams/hot favourites played champions league games midweek, particularly long away trips, and have a tight turnaround for the early TV match, and then either rotate heavily, start slowly, sub early, or some combination of all three to conspire to sabotage popular FPL big hitters

But when clubs have clear schedules it shouldn’t *really* be a factor

Certainly didn’t impact Bruno last week

In terms of defences Saints and Burnley were equally poor in GW1 relative to shots and big chances conceded. I’m tempted by Bruno but I think the crowd will play a part this GW a and I’m betting on Anfield and Salah. I also agree with the forget EO concern just pick the player who you think will score the most points and in this case I’m settled on Salah.

Do we think that Southampton will concede more than Burnley this week? in general. I need to get rid of this bias that Nick Pope and Burnley's defence are magical.

Ugh, Man City are a pickle. If everyone is 100% fit, here's the order of nailedness that I see (excluding defensive mids):
    Ederson
    KDB
    Dias
    Stones
    Grealish
    Mahrez
    Cancelo
    Gundog
    Foden
    Zinchenko
    Torres
    Jesus
    Walker
    Bsilva
    Can't think of anymore.

I am thinking of moving Gundo > Pogba, losing 0.1M
Gundo price should go down according the FFF, so should get my money back for GW3. (have 0.5 ITB) so can afford this

Is pogba worth one game away to Saints? If he scores a couple of assists he is likely to go up again....??

I am normally WCing on GW2 so this makes a big change for me...
