The Scout Squad’s best players for FPL Gameweek 2

In our weekly series, Fantasy Football Scout contributors Sam, Neale, Tom and Az debate the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards for the upcoming Gameweek.

Six FPL players have been given full backing by all four of our panel, with Erling Haaland (£11.6m) unsurprisingly among the consensus selections.

There’s no Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea representation at all, however, with those two clubs meeting in a tough-to-call clash at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.

ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

Everything you ever wanted to know about the FPL Bonus Point System - part one

In this series, our four resident Fantasy Football Scout contributors each propose an 18-man squad of Fantasy players with the focus solely on the upcoming Gameweek.

Their selections serve as a long list for the Scout Picks, as the players nominated will then be narrowed down to a squad of 15 (with the starting XI not exceeding a total cost of £83.0m) for our final weekly selection ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Each writer must meet the following requirements:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

Any reason Jesus’ ownership is so much higher than Saka’s?

Saka *should* be on pens and gets an extra point for a goal or clean sheet.

    Interested to hear people’s thoughts.

Both the same price. I think Saka may well out score Jesus over the season. Enables you to go Kane Nunez Haaland up top too.

Partially this. And then once his ownership became so high, even more started picking him because they were afraid of going without

Not sure that’s really that relevant. Most people at this stage wouldn’t have that much money up top even if they didn’t have Jesus

    3. svgcr

More midfield options to replace Saka if you go Jesus.

    4. banskt
      • 10 Years

I think it was preseason form.

He is a great player, but I doubt his prospect in FPL, especially without the penalties. He will not be in my team unless he proves otherwise.

    5. Ballzit
      • 2 Years

It’s forward options compared to mids. Perceived premium returns possible for a forward at price point no one else is at. Darwin or Wilson questioning that perception to some degree but still difference in price.

Saka has the other 4 or so players at the same price point, plus the additional budget options.

Yes Saka is pretty obviously best player on Arsenal. Jesus just still may be a big benefactor of Arsenal attack

From what I can tell, anyway

Have you read this? I'm thinking of not waiting and taking Aaronson or Harrison for Bailey now, this gameweek.
    https://twitter.com/CraigHope_DM/status/1557770229798866945

‘Ralph just doesn’t really talk to people anymore,’ said one source. ‘He drops players without any real thought and has no relationship with them if they have an issue.

‘There is a real defensive focus and they’re going into games just trying not to lose. Players are used out of position and there is no consistency - a lot of them are very unhappy.

‘When they sacked the coaching staff, there was a feeling it should have been Ralph who went. The club say they have full faith in him, but it looks like he knows the game is nearly up.’

I think RCB to counter Son. The predicted lineup on here has RCB too. But I just checked & actually Tuchel used a back 4 against Spurs last season. The back 4 experiment v Arsenal preseason was distastrous though...

I’d stick. It’s Bournemouth at home. Think he has a decent chance of starting. Could get good points even if he comes off the bench. Then if u want u can get rid next week and upgrade bailey or mitro right away

Stick and reassess after GW2. You could then use 2 transfers (plus maybe a hit) to do a mini WC for the reshuffle that you are planning.

Seeing all the most transferred in players who scored high in GW1 shows me there's a lot of people assuming they will get these scores every week.

I get the Haaland in and Kane out as this was the plan for a lot of people and this makes sense. Kane for the Southampton game and then Haaland for the Bournemouth game.

I just think most have spent so long choosing their best team only to wildcard or panic after just one week. There's 37 more gameweeks to go.

Difficult choice between A and C. In an open forum, I will always suggest A because it avoids a hit and KdB has a good chance to outscore Haaland.

However, I would have gone C if I was the manager, because I would want Haaland more than KdB in the long term.

Thinking of starting Andreas and benching Bailey this week … how are others thinking?

Same dilemma. Strongly considering Andreas on the pitch. Only thing that is still keeping out Bailey is the home fixture of Villa vs the away fixture of Fulham.

      1. Eh, just one more thing ...

Yup, agree on paper it looks silly to bench Bailey with that fixture.

Everton keeping Chelsea to one goal and Leeds putting 2 past Wolves… and Andreas advanced and on some set pieces with Bailey perhaps at risk of being rotated (perhaps unfairly) …. Certainly one I will ponder up until deadline.

Yes, Everton looked better defensively than last season but then they lost two more defenders. Now, they have Coady but he had lost his place in the first team of Wolves.

Agree that Andreas was the (significantly) better player than Bailey for the first GW. Also on set pieces and setting up crosses for Mitrovic, who does look like a man on mission this season.

Or post teams atfer the GW is finished, discuss what went wrong or right but not reveal your plans for the following GW.

Watching other's teams and coming up with your own team might mean we'd pick better teams. There'd be no FFS if people didn't post their teams or ask for advice here.

Literally every question is who to bench out Bailey, Andreas and Neto.

        Repeat repeat repeat.

        Or should I bench James.

        Repeat repeat repeat.
        Etc etc etc

          There are other questions too.

Every team has one or two differential picks, which are nice to see.

If you think this site is so bad why are still posting on it? More traffic means great ad revenue potential for FFS, on top of membership revenue. I'm not a member any more byt fair play to them for making money from it

Of course but I am just trying to make people think for themselves too.

I enjoy this site very much but when people get lambasted for wanting to use their WC because you are told when to use it makes a critical thinker turn into a sheep.

I remember when Leeds got promoted I did mad research on Stuart Dallas. He did well for us that first season. Now I look at Rasmus Christensen and what I see is a way more powerful player. My question is how did he look in this first match against Wolves? Also can Leeds actually produce clean sheets? I'm interested for sure.

On paper this decision looks stupid but I've got to start one of Digne, Neco, Patterson. Nico doesn't look worth it till Forest have gelled as a team and on paper Digne makes most sense. However, Villa look in trouble with the unrest (I might be basing too much on BS rumours and 1 game) and despite Everton's lack of firepower upfront they looked a bit more cohesive and Tarkowski is an excellent acquisition. Should I just start Digne due to home advantage?
It's probably classic overthinking as both will get 1 pt most.
