Suspensions

FPL suspensions: Jesus and Gordon one booking away from a ban

Gabriel Jesus (£8.1m) and Anthony Gordon (£5.6m) are among the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are a caution away from a one-match ban, while Joao Palhinha (£5.0m) became the first Fantasy asset to reach five yellow cards for the season in Gameweek 8.

Our regular round-up of the disciplinary situation in the English top flight has more.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Following the wave of postponements over the last week or so, that is no longer Gameweek 19.

Team19th fixture falls in…

Man UtdGameweek 21
NewcastleGameweek 20
Nottm ForestGameweek 20
SouthamptonGameweek 20
SpursGameweek 20
West HamGameweek 20
WolvesGameweek 20

The above will change if there are any rearrangements of the postponed fixtures before that but there are few available windows.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

CURRENTLY BANNED

FPL suspensions: Jesus and Gordon one booking away from a ban 1

Palhinha was booked for an excessive goal celebration after scoring in Fulham’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, collecting his fifth caution of the season in the process.

He’ll now be banned for the Cottagers’ Gameweek 9 clash with Newcastle United.

Nathan Collins (£4.5m) is also newly suspended, albeit not for yellow card accumulation: he was dismissed for serious foul play in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defeat to Manchester City so will now be unavailable until Gameweek 12.

ON FOUR/THREE YELLOW CARDS

Jesus and Gordon both picked up their fourth bookings of the season in Gameweek 8 and will have to last until mid-January without another caution if they are to avoid a one-match ban.

The pair are actually joint-fourth in the league for most fouls conceded (14) this season, so it’s no mystery as to why they’re on the above list.

Kenny Tete (£4.5m) and Ruben Neves (£5.5m) also collected their fourth yellow cards of 2022/23 in the Gameweek just gone to join Scott McTominay (£4.9m) and Adam Smith (£4.4m) on the precipice.

Reece James (£6.0m) is among the big names further back. There’s no need for any immediate concern of yet, of course, but he’ll have to avoid two bookings in Chelsea’s next 13 league fixtures to swerve a one-match ban.

The defender’s three bookings have actually come from just four fouls conceded.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

    Early thoughts this WC team?

    Guaita - Ward
    Cancelo - Trippier - James - 5.5def - Neco
    KdB - Maddy - Zaha - Martinelli - Andreas
    Mitro - Haaland - Toney

Would play 3-4-3 without Pool assets some weeks or going Diaz over Maddison. Not sure yet who's going to be max 5.5def. Maybe Dier or someone cheaper.

Not sure yet my GW12 plans, this team have 3 blanking players (KdB, Haaland and Martinelli) and probably going to transfer Martinelli or KdB out before GW12.

Perhaps Patterson over Neco. Would go for a Def cheaper than 5.5m to leave you money ITB for KDB > Salah, if not already

Very similar to mine. I’ve just got Salah over KDB and Patterson instead of a 5.5 (as think he’s great value and I keep 1.5 ITB that way)

How close was Saliba to rising last night on fplstatistics?
I was really busy yesterday evening/night so didn't get to check or adjust my team. But the last I checked he wasn't close to a rise

I'm on wc and feel I lost a chance of a double rise on saliba

He's only just gone up to 4.9 so can't see a double rise.

Saliba in is a bit kneejerk IMO, suspect a lot of people did it after his haul, but with Spurs, Liverpool and a blank in the next 4 there are plenty of better short term options, especially on a wild card.

James 3 yellows, not liking that.

So many things to ponder about like keeping my double Ars defence Gabriel and Saiba, perhaps bringing in Trent for James and whether I want to keep Kane or Mitrovic.

At least there is enough time to think about what moves I want to make.

Vs Spurs at home and LEE away most definitely a possibility. I don't have to play both vs Liverpool. May I bench both vs Pool or play one.

I will want Arsenal assets back in GW13. Gabriel and Saliba have given enough reasons for me to keep them. GW12 I will bench both and Haaland, have 11 playing then bring in Saka for GW13. Right now I am just chilling.

Fingers crossed I can pencil in these moves over the next 2 weeks!

    GW9:
    Gundo > Maddison

    GW10:
    Targett + Martinelli > Andersen + Zaha 2FT

    GW 12:
    KdB + Jesus > Salah + Mitrovic

Have only a Neco issue for GW 12 if Aurier starts playing, and then a hit becomes easy to do.

Watch this IB cause havoc. Cba if trains strikes starts cancelling games again; fpl becomes boring.

Anyone going Jesus to Kane, or is it wrong timing?

I know depends on your team but a lot of people have similar players doesn't it make more sense to WC13 than WC now? You can add your Liverpool players in and get rid of Arsenal and City in GW12

Makes some sense but not total sense. Create a strong team now with a good bench and transfer out 1-2 assets gw 13

Early thoughts on which to start in next round?

    A. Bailey (lee)
    B. Emerson (WOL)
    C. Andreas (NEW)

I would start A, he was very lively against Southampton. Could of easy hauled with shots just wide and 2 saved

I think A is fairly nailed now, only pace/natural width in our team and Ings/Watkins just never looked like clicking

if he starts, that fixture should suit him

Lloris flagged with a thigh injury. Only noticed now.

Wonder how long he will be out for?

Reported as 'minor' - could be one of the classic international break ones with a fortnight's recovery time

I imagine it’s downtime for a lot of the back of house but can we have a look at fixing the ticker please?

Is that in the 'new' Members Area, Horsey? The old one is still working (if not as good) for the time being but I'll report the drop-out now.

Kind of looked a bit like it was Patterson who made the foul that Gordon got a YC for this weekend too: https://streamff.com/v/e5abda

Not really, commentator said it was for a shirt pull but seems like it could have been mistaken identity as Patterson's slide caught Cornet. He's in my team so expecting the 1 game ban to be in GW12 when I have no bench!

    Wildcard active:

    Guaita
    James Cancelo Trippier
    Martinelli Zaha Maddison Salah
    Mitrovic Haaland Isak

    Iverson Coufal Dier Andreas

    0.0 ITB

Is having Cancelo, Martinelli and Haaland too much?

Maybe I should swap Cancelo to someone else, due to having 3 players who blank in gw 12?

Looks good but I’d switch Dier or Coufal to Patterson or Williams if I were you - no need to have that much money tied up deep on your bench when there are playable 4.1s about

That's a great suggestion i've just removed Coufal to Patterson, thank you.

Anyone know the likelihood that the NLD gets called off? Is it quite likely/fair likely/70% likely? What about Palace vs. Chelsea?

    Cheers.

I don't see anything being called off. Even if the strike goes ahead there are loads of other ways to get to and around London

      Very unlikely.

Brighton was a unique situation because it's so far out the way that the trains were very important for people to get there. London fixtures can be accessed via the underground.

It's 41 miles from Crystal Palace to Brighton. It was solely down to the threat of the train strike not the paltry distance between the 2 clubs. Brighton is easily accessed by road too.

Plenty of park and ride available. The train station is also 4 1/2 miles from The Amex

Mainline station . I agree that it relies on another change to get to The Amex.

Rail Strikes will become less severe, no ones talking about it but Network Rail shouldnt be part of any more strikes

I really think jesus is going to start hitting big numbers soon. so many of his games keepers have made worldy saves and he hits the target most times but has just been really unlucky . he could have had 3 of 4 against brentford. he's playing well overall in every game so not definitely not lacking confidence. mitro and toney are great options but not in his class and they are going to get less chances created for them in those teams

I agree. But the fixtures really aren't good for the next 3.

TOT liv BLANK is godawful. So I'll plot a route back to Jesus after the blank.

same, I'll likely get him back for Kane in 13 as Haaland looks a perma cap 13-16
