FPL 2023/24 is live

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is live for the 2023/24 season and managers can now set their squads up for the new campaign.

The launch comes after three days of price reveals in which 116 Premier League players were priced up across all 20 top-flight clubs.

We’ll begin our round-up of the newly released prices in an article later.

If you’re new to FPL, head over to our beginner’s guides.

FPL 2023/24: ANY RULE CHANGES?

Everything of note in FPL seems to have remained the same.

The chips are as they were (two Wildcards, one Free Hit, one Bench Boost and one Triple Captain).

The first Wildcard will be available from the start of the season until the Gameweek 20 deadline on Saturday 30 December.

There are, of course, none of the bonus unlimited transfers that we were granted in 2022/23 following the World Cup.

The scoring system appears to be identical, with the Gameweek deadlines remaining at 90 minutes prior to the first kick-off.

We’ve yet to see what the promised ‘new format’ is.

Our Pre-Season Minutes Tracker, a benefit of Premium Membership, will soon be live to document the minutes played in these warm-up matches.

I don't really get the "game's too easy now" attitude from people like Mark who struggled last season.

good players struggle if the game is too easy for the casuals, skill gap closes

Skill gap? 80% of FPL is pure luck how many times has an injury meant unexpected bench points etc

To be honest I think the pricing this year has been the most interesting in my 18 years of playing the game. There is no 'obvious' team. There are two or three viable alternatives in every position except the forwards so far...

agree re luck but i like looking at the game through price points/opportunity cost. If you can pick 3/4 7.5-9 mil players who'll average over 5ppg over solid 10+ GWs periods (alongside premiums) because they're priced too cheap, it's easier than having 1/2 and then having to nail the cheaper options from non top 7 sides which is tougher to do imo

Oh I see what you mean now. I suppose you can't have it every way. Although these days one click of a phone/mouse anyone can find out the bargain options from the non top sides.

The way it is done now there are so many options, there is more guarantee of different teams. I think that was a major problem in previous seasons everyone was funnelled towards the same players, but I only realised it when I saw this seasons pricing.

"Good" players may struggle also because of other reasons. FPL General had once very bad season for example. Mark's some comments have shown that he hasn't followed PL enough. (As an example he blamed Pukki for not being good enough, when Pukki at least matched his xG, but Nor created nothing.) To be good in Fpl is getting harder and harder. Pricing is more difficult and then we have social media etc.

agreed but tougher to regain lost ground during the season with the way pricing is now

There used to be an information gap between the hardcore players and the general FPL public. Now the information is freely available without having to do much of your own research. So in that way the game is easier than in the past while still being harder to obtain a higher overall rank, if that makes sense.

First draft done quite like it.

    Johnstone
    TAA, Shaw, Dias, James

    Haaland, Nkunku

    Johnstone, Botman, Arter, Archer.

Anyone have a draft with Haaland and Kane that they like?

    1. jimbe4mXL
      • 3 Years
      11 months, 4 days ago

      Raya
      Gabriel - Shaw - Estupinan
Bruno - Mbeumo - Trossard* - Mitoma - Mac Allister*
      Haaland - Kane

      * - off template, not sure about those 2, but made the squad quickly, sure can tinker with it.

      1. gart888
        • 9 Years

So basically, you're missing Trent, and have a weak 5th midfielder (after I insist you upgrade Trossard to Saka).

Probably not worth the upgrade from Jesus/Nkunku to Kane.

      2. K4pril
        • 2 Years

If kane stays i will go for him,

I played arround with it and best option i came out with

        4.5
        Shaw Estu Gabriel
        Martinelli Encisio Bruno Mbuemo
        Haaland Kane 7.5

        4/ Botman/4/4.5

leaves 0.5 IB. if Encisio is not playing Botman covers

Also leaves maney for price changes and possbile estu to Chelsea def in GW3

Just not sure that Darwin gets reliable enough starts to be worth slotting into the team. I expect Diaz-Gakpo-Salah to be the GW1 front 3.

      • 1 Year

I prefer Enciso to Mitoma. Not sold on Antony or Mount. It is either Rashford or who is further forward out of Mount/Bruno. Darwin is a serious rotation/benching risk. You could have zero GKs starting. Not sold on Nkunku, Varane or Tripper. Apart from that, really good.

Doing that doesn't really open up the door to adding Kane or Salah for me, so I'm not sure it's worth passing up on one of the very attractive 4.5-5.5 options for my third defender.

Need some thoughts on this Trent + Salah + Haaland draft please:

    Fabianski
    TAA, Porro, Botman, Cash
    Salah, Rashford, Martinelli, Eze
    Haaland, Wissa

    Areola, Brownhill, Beyer, Simms

Why Beyer over Taylor? I'm always inclined to go with the FB over the CB when prices are the same. Also personally like Bruno over Rashford.

Otherwise looks solid, but if Nkunku or Jesus come good up front you'll liely regret missing out on them.

All very fair points, much appreciated. Think you're spot on about Taylor. Will consider Bruno and then upgrade to Ramsdale.

You're right about Nkunku, but I think it's one of the risks I just have to take if I want to have those three players.

        Much, much appreciated.

Yeah, at the end of the day you can justify having a sub standard 2nd forward pretty easily by just pointing at Salah.

Yeah I don't like that wissa price point up top, so many good options at 7.5

Cash at 4.5 looks decent value; on my radar too. I don't trust Spurs defence transitioning to a back 4 really.

Think you're right. Perhaps a 4.5 and upgrade GK might be better! Many thanks, always.

I am trying to avoid double attack. Tempted with a punt on Sterling over Foden as I have Haaland.

Sterling's price is really attractive, but so is Nkunku's. I'm assuming you have Saka as your only Arsenal attacker, so who is your 2nd forward?

Wissa, IMO, he should be in most teams with Toney out until Jan.

Damn, I thought Mbeumo was 6m!

Means I can't get Botman/Mings/Tark on my bench but if Bell and Beyer are nailed might not be an issue to start with?

    Ramsdale
    TAA Shaw Estupinan
    Rashford Saka Martinelli Mitoma Mbeumo
    Haaland Gakpo
    Areola Simms Bell Beyer

I know it's early but which of these is the better option?
    1) Bruno or Rashford?
    2) Ferguson or Mitoma or March?
    3) Nkunku or Gapko or Foden or Grealish?

      Foden

Rashford until we know where Fern plays, then there is a proper decision but his role could interchange with Mount
      Enciso
Foden or Sterling, monitor Nkunku (I prefer mid picks)

I think I misunderstood the question lol.

I don't like to earmark in any transfers. I build my initial team so that it can hopefully be self sufficient for the first chunk of the season and I can use my transfers on bringing in surprising good performers and getting rid of my poorly performing players.

So is that planning for the first ~8 gameweeks? Or is it none since I don't have any transfers planned out?

No probs. Yeah so do I. I like to go as long as I can without making transfers unless necessary.

I think it might be the former in relation to your last two questions lol. For me anyway.

I think I've realised that (for me at least), even if I plan it for a fixture swing around 8-9, I'll want to play it earlier since 4-5 weeks of new info is just huge. So I'm only really looking at the first 5 or 6

3 tbh, happy to use an early WC. Probably the best plan is up until European football starts and then have a rethink around minutes for your players/form/early season stats etc

At least first 4 must/should be good for everyone. I usually end up playing my 1st WC too early. Therefore to avoid it I want most of my players to be "season keepers" so that I can handle injuries etc. Players like Haaland and Saka are examples of players that probably can be kept if fit. However, it is more about balancing the fixtures and risks. I won't have both Gakpo and Nkunku for example, but I might start with one of them. Should Gakpo fail and Nkunku haul twice in a row, it's easy switch.

Impossible to know at the moment how much of an option players like this are going to be. Really need to see what other transfers they make, and how nailed he appears to be following pre-season.

Pricing of Arsenal defence seems a bit odd. Was thinking Zinchenko when I saw White 5.5 but Gabriel is underpriced so will maybe just see closer to restart how likely it is that Zinc shares mins with Tierney

he's the one to watch out of their defence for sure, nailed on if fit and firing; very good potential for attacking returns; not a bad price. but we need to see how regularly he's managing to start preseason.

    Haaland / Jesus

It has to be Rashford from Man U doesn't it? Alternative considering price is Mount or Bruno but I have no idea where they will play. Closest to goal out of the 2 is the only alternative to Rash.

Bruno for me. Cheaper, on pens, and seems less streaky of a player.

Ok, going to throw this draft out there since nobody is mentioning Son and he could be very underpriced for a guy that had 33 attacking returns the season before last.

    4.5
    Trent/Shaw/Estupinan
    Son/Bruno/Saka/Mbeumo/Mitoma
    Haaland/Nkunku

    Areola/Baldock/Taylor/4.5 Forward

Agree. Sonny could be playing up top of Kane ends up in Munich.

Fwiw, exactly the same as my first draft except I went Foden & Wissa over Mbeumo & Nkunku

        • 9 Years

Losing Kane is likely a net negative for him though. Kane is a pretty great passer and assisted lots of Son's goals. Also, Richarlison might be playing up top? He did for Brazil. Maddison should help though.

I'm a Foden truther, but hate taking on that risk when Mbuemo should be on penalties, and Nkunku should be nailed on as Chelsea's 9.
