That's what I thought, but who are we to question the reigning FPL champion!
If Brighton manage to seal the deal with Kudus then huge question marks over Enciso.

As he says in the article, underpriced players means he can build a good squad. Presumably so he can rotate players.

    What a bench!! I think that's 21.5m - mines currently 16.5m

Same here. The crazy thing is even if he plays Trent it’s going to be at least two 5.0 defenders and a 4.5 forward.

    4.5
    Gabriel Porro Estupinan
    Rashford Saka Foden Mitoma Pereira
    Haaland Kane

    4.0; Botman, Beyer, 4.5 fwd

To me , this is the worst team I have seen anyone pull together. its terrible.

The article pulls on repetitive nonsense like flexibility and keeping money in the bank and the strong bench makes me think you will wildcard sooner, not later.

Spend 8 mil on a defender and bench him? come on.

Good luck. But man, you won FPL so what the hell do I know.

You probably know more than most. Winning FPL isn't like winning a game of chess. The amount of luck involved to won FPL is ridiculous and I wouldn't be taking advice from someone purely because they just happened to be that lucky person 1 year.

Aye I'm talking purely about the act of winning it. You definitely need to know what you're doing to have a few high finishes. We can all do that, but you need an extreme amount of luck to push you over the line to being a potential outright winner.

He's been stupid lucky with his past 2 seasons. Like probably never to happen to anyone again lucky. Sometimes the not so good players do excel in a game of luck. Fair play to him winning it. He did it by going against the grain which take a lot of risk but the way these players play means they are either sh*t or bust. Look at LR and Mark Sutherns for example. Either a great season or a nightmare season. This guy knows no more than me or you . It's all about personality this game. Don't be shocked if this dude finishes top 500k

Calling it the worst is a bit of an exaggeration.

As he states in the article, there's so many cheap good players that he doesn't need fodder on the bench. No doubt he'll be rotating players based on fixtures.

There's no point spending money on expensive players just because they're expensive.

Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia, and a complete midfield overhaul for Liverpool. They may as well go all-in for Caicedo and Lavia now. What a crazy transfer window!

They'll be able to afford Lavia with that, but I'd say he's too young to be the only #6 in the first team squad.

I've just got Estupinan with a semi-plan to exchange him for James or Chilwell Gw2,3,4,or 5. Come GW4 if Brighton haven't hit the ground running, tripling up might be asking for an early wildcard. My guess is the champ is also less than 100% confident, which is the main reason for that bench.

Would make more sense to have it closer to the deadline so there is more info. You'd prefer normal rules or set-and-forget (no manual changes allowed after gw1)? Set-and-forget might even be more fun cause you know, we might actually forget we have a draft team XD Let's see if there are other people who are interested or then check the interest closer to the deadline in August.

You set up a list of transfers you want to make in order of priority. Then, at the deadline, it automatically runs through each players priorities in order, starting with the players who are lowest in the league, then it snakes back up again, like ABCCBAABCCBA.

At least that's what I believe based on my fuzzy memory. I like it. Best format of the game for me, but never managed to keep others engaged. Set and forget is a bit pointless imo. It's like a lottery or a sweepstake.

It's also possible to trade players with other managers in the league, but I always disabled that as it seems a pointless add-on that's open to manipulation/throwing the game.

Just messing about with a 4-5-1 with rotating 2 from 3 budget defenders.

      Pickford (Areola)
      TAA - Saliba - £4.5m - £4.5m (£4.0m)
      Rashford - Son - Saka - BrunoF - Foden
      Haaland (Balogun, Archer)

GW1: Webster (LUT) - Baldock (CRY) / sub = Fofana
GW2: Webster (wol) - Fofana (whu) / sub = Baldock
GW3: Webster (WHU) - Fofana (LUT) / sub = Baldock
GW4: Fofana (NFO) - Baldock (EVE) / sub = (transfer Webster for Botman)
GW5: Fofana (bou) - Botman (BRE) / sub = Baldock
GW6: Fofana (AVL) - Botman (shu) / sub = Baldock
GW7: Fofana (ful) - Botman BUR) / sub = Baldock

9/14 home fixtures and avoids the 'big 7' teams.
I quite like this as it enables Haaland, TAA and £42.5m midfield.

          Mine's a little less complex - a rotating 5 of:
          Shaw/Gabriel/Estupinan(>James/Chilwell sooner rather than later)/Cash (or other 4.5 villain)/Henry.
I'm very happy with my 3-at-the-back rotations until GW19.

That's a poor team and there is no way he goes into the season with that defence. I thought owning Ake to bench him was silly then I seen Trent next player over.

It's not that bad 😀 With Trent in the XI, he's just spent an extra 1.0-1.5 on the bench than most RMTs around here and kept 0.5 in the bank. He tries to explain a bit, but could do more for sure, and I think the lack of a cohesive argument would be my issue, rather than the resulting, somewhat different, team.

I think the problem is the whole Pru Pundit strategy. The quality of the articles is low imo. Just content for the sake of it, like a lot of YouTube videos. The Google algorithms necessitate quantity, unfortunately.

I said this a few days ago. People need to ignore these early 'influencer' drafts. They're paid by the article/YouTube appearance, and they'll make at least 3 or 4 (more like 13 or 14 if it's FPLSalah or Pras). Each one needs to be different, so they will "evolve" over time.

Absolutely fantastic business if it goes ahead... They'll replace them no problem.

They already have Elliott, Jones and Bajcetic who are pretty regular Premier League starters now. Is Thiago staying? That's all the experience they need really.

      I'm a bit confused.
I see Shaw as a prime choice over & over again.
      Why?
Stats show that over the past 10 seasons he has hit triple digit returns only 3/10? And then just barely...

Is it totally "potential" and of so isn't that a pretty thin reason?

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 12 Years

There's a real lack of big hitting defenders in FPL atm. 2nd highest defender score last season was only 156pts. Ideally we need someone like Chilwell become an option.

Agree that Shaw is a pretty average option, but there's not much better elsewhere. We should see in pre-season if Mount will keep him deeper or take some of his set-pieces.

        1. anotherhoops
            10 months, 27 days ago

People like myself are expecting clean sheets in 2 of the first 3 United fixtures plus potential bonus/ maybe an attacking return. I think Shaw is a safe choice and if things don't work out you could downgrade or swap to one of the Chelsea boys.

You have as much money on the bench (most weeks) as the writer of this article (and more if you bench Eze), and as you can see by the reaction, it's the main reason people think the team is poor. So I would suggest that the main feedback would be to downgrade one of DCL and Eze to the minimum spend (4.5) and use that money elsewhere.

However, perhaps you have good rationale for this expenditure, in which case, perhaps you would like to test your reasoning against others here, rather than allowing us to pound your team into the template! 😀

I totally like to have a bench like that, some are players ready for next GW when one of the now playin might have a hard GW. No transfere needed. Then many whine about rotation, again a strong bench might be handy. My bench (for now) is Areola, Mbueno & Chillwell + a 4,0

I agree, I often try out rotations of low-mid-priced players in my drafts to see if I can extract value from players that people are avoiding for fixture reasons. More often or not, I settle on pumping more money into the XI, but that doesn't mean it's the only way. It ultimately depends on all the variables (prices & predictions) in play right now, and not in situations past. Could eke out an advantage in an unexpected place, especially with unlimited transfers. Could also just have fun haha

In fact, my first draft was based on this idea, albeit without putting a lot of thought into it:

                Fabianksi (Areola)
                (Trippier James Chilwell Porro Moreno)
                Saka Odegaard Martinelli (Mbeumo Gross)
                Haaland (Wissa Ferguson)

I continue to struggle having a team I like that has TAA in it.

        Ramsdale
        Trippier/Estupinan/Mings
        Saka/B.Fernandes/Gibbs-White/Salah
        Solanke/Wissa/Haaland

        Areola/Botman/Bell/Baptiste

I can squeeze anther 1.0 from Estupinan/Ramsdale and go Solanke to Nkunku if he hits the ground running..

          > I continue to struggle having a team I like that has TAA in it.

Agreed, I prefer most drafts without TAA. Weird thing is, if TAA was an 8mil mid we'd probably lock him in before Haaland.

Tinker with some 334 or 244 with TAA & see what you think.

            That is the truth!
If he were put in as a midfield option it would be "easier" I guess, but 2 points over nearly all other options at the same position is what makes it hard for me.

It's different. I like it! Don't need TAA if you prefer the team without him. People thought he was too expensive when the prices were released, it seemed. And he might not even continue in the "inverted role" (although it wasn't really a categorical change anyway, I think).

I think the main concern would be Mings, who I believe is under threat from a new signing, but I'm ignorant about the details and probabilities.

I think many would say that Wissa isn't a great pick given that there isn't much potential at 6.0 or below to switch him to if he doesn't work out, and having Wissa means the same logic applies to Solanke, really.

I wouldn't necessarily agree. I think you can transfer/mini-WC out of danger if it's really necessary, but the value of going for the picks you like is generally greater. That said, you do have some risky picks, which make this scenario more likely, so maybe try to upgrade one, as you were thinking about doing.

I personally wouldn't be happy having 3 x £6.0/6.5m players occupying the midfield and forward positions.

Most people dont realise but Dele Alli spoke about his childhood 7 years ago.

It should have been a red flag back then that he needed help. Maybe he did get therapy but he's someone who will need support his entire life.

Clubs must now start to recognise that players from troubled childhoods are more prone to mental health disorders and will need on going support. Depression, anxiety and addiction is for life.

The media don't care about Dele Alli. He's just something to write about, todays headline like Ivan Toney was a few weeks ago.

The EPL and FA need to make mandatory changes towards mental health or we will see more stories like this.

Very true. One thing that comes to mind is having managers and support staff aware of mental health and how the environment they create can support players with issues.

        Areola/Pickford
        James/Gabriel/Estupinan/Botman/Bell
        Rashford/Saka/Maddison/Mbuemo/Eze
        Haaland/Jesus/Darwin

        My decisions to come
        Darwin or Gakpo.
        Considering Mitrovic too.
        Gibbs White or Eze.

First draft had TAA and no Salah. Had a play around to see if downgrading TAA would enable me to fit Salah in, but didn't like the compromises that entailed. Also looked at going with neither, but have ended up back where I started but adjusting my midfield.

Thinking is: Haaland is the only 10.0+ player. Cheap keeper pairing and some bench fodder.

Then you can fit in four 8.0-9.0 players out of:

        Rashford
        Fernandes
        Son
        Saka
        Odegaard
        Martinelli
        TAA
        Wilson
        Watkins

        And a few 5.5-7.0 enablers.

Getting Salah would mean only having one player from the 8.0-9.0 bracket, instead of four.

Figured that if I go for Fernandes and Martinelli rather than Rashford and Saka, I can afford a 7.5 to go with TAA, Wilson and Trippier. So:

        Foderingham
        TAA Trippier Gabriel
        Fernandes Martinelli Havertz Mbuemo Enciso
        Haaland Wilson

        Neto Morris Beyer Gusto

First attempt at a proper draft, not had much time recently but really enjoying the look of this.. Only one I'm a little unsure on at the moment is DCL and Mbeumo.

        Pickford
        Taa - Estup - Gabrial
        Salah - Maddison - Saka - Enciso - Mbeumo
        Haaland - DCL

        Areola - Botman - Beyer - Semeyo

First draft, I quite like the look of it although clearly defence is limited and I am banking on a 3-5-2.

          Fabs | Areola
          Botman | Estu | Henry | Bell | Beyer
          Salah | Rashford | Saka | Eze | Mbeumo
          Haaland | Jesus | Surridge
