      Really nice.
Thing is… it doesn’t have much Salah!

I looked at tagging Salah out of mine, and I love it. But I keep coming back to… but I want Mo!

Hey fellas - best 2 mids to have in your GW1 team?
    A) Mbeumo
    B) Eze
    C) Mitoma

Been trying to choose two from three for 2 weeks but I keep changing my mind. All three are nice options for 6.5. Eze and Mbuemo on penalties so they slightly edge it but you look at Mitoma’s first 3 fixtures and it’s difficult to go without him.

Ugh there are so many defenders I'd like to have in my team (TAA, Chilwell, Shaw, Stones, Gabriel, Estupinan) but realistically I'm planning to play 3 at the back. Any one else having the same dilemma?

    1. Brimble82

The 5.5m price bracket is so sexy this year.
I’ve written off TAA as he breaks my structure.
Gabriel is set and forget for me.
Then I plan to start Stones & Estu, switching the letter to Chilly in GW3.

But Shaw & RJ are top of my watchlist

      Yay.

      Odegaard playing deeper

I think Jesus is second only to Saka this season.

    3-5-2 draft

    Onana (4.0)
    Stones Estu Gabriel (Tark Beyer)
    Rash Son Foden Saka Mbuemo
    Haaland Jackson (4.5)

1.0itb. My only worry is the mids are too inflexible. Any ideas?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years
      10 months, 4 days ago

Can't be much more flexible than that in my opinion, two 9m, one 8.5, one 7.5, one 6.5m. Getting Salah is the only difficulty but that's the case for anyone without him

  7. Arteta
    • 8 Years
    10 months, 4 days ago

If Arsenal can buy Raya for £20–30m, then I'm all for it. But a £40m asking price is a bit too much.

I like almost everything about Ramsdale, but if we get Raya, it will be because Arteta probably wants him to be his first choice this season. Arsenal were close to signing him in 2020 but had a few offers rejected. He has clearly rated him for years, and we've seen in the past that he can be ruthless and is always trying to keep it competitive.

I hate to say it, but Aaron got too comfortable at times, as he knew he would stay number one no matter what Matt did in other competitions. David is a better and more complete player than him at the moment, and this transfer would push both to another level. Having two classy goalkeepers who suit our playstyle is only a good thing in the long run.

Turner's move to Nottingham Forest for £10m would cover some part of the fee as well. It won't be cheap, but these two transfers objectively make the team better instantly.

I agree it seems a lot to spend for 10 months but i guess you secure a 5 year contract.

Any chance that Folarin Balogun goes the other way and the balance is paid off either way?

    2. LangerznMash
      • 7 Years

Turner being Forest's #1 would be a £4.0m GH FPL gem.

I did think Henderson to Forest seemed to have gone cold, haven't heard a thing on it for a long while, imagine ManUtd priced them out of it given the Onana move. Might make sense in this context

I'd wager that both Henderson and Raya are playing Premier League football by the end of August.

Ultimately it's not in either clubs interest to hold a player they don't intend to play.

If Raya stayed, logic suggests he'd play for Brentford.

This could change the thinking and team set ups if it happened.

According to reports in France, Newcastle United remain keen on the signing of Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.

This comes from Nice-Matin – an outlet dedicated to the Ligue 1 side – who claim that ourselves, West Ham and Aston Villa have all ‘approached’ the 23-year-old defender.

FPL prices are deceiving, but Schär, at 31, is probably under a bigger threat to lose his spot than Botman, who joined last year with a star reputation.

Although as the best defence of last year, I think they shouldn't consider too many changes.

Trying to fit in Nkunku is proving difficult, first real dilemma I'm having as I haven't touched my first draft yet. I can manage it by effectively changing my starters from Mitoma and Wissa to João Pedro and Nkunku but it leaves me with two 4m defenders and a 4.5m mid which feels too light. Then again I was already planning quite short term (effectively up to GW4 given the IB and a few fixture swings happen after that) so I'm wondering if it's worth the risk

I don't have many other options I'm willing to sacrifice just yet, maybe Shaw to 4.5 and moving 4.5 GK to Onana would work but I'm not loving the options in that bracket yet. Other than that it might depend on Foden and how City look next week, I had forgotten their tendency to start a lot of recent seasons fairly slowly so perhaps moving him to someone like Richarlison (if Kane is gone by next week) is a possibility

Why not wait until GW4/IB to see if Chelsea improve/one of their strikers does well which is highly unlikely.

I initially had no intention of going near Chelsea (apart perhaps from Colwill on a rotational basis), but I've been impressed from what I've seen of them in preseason. Nkunku really seems like a poacher and Jackson looks like he'll lead the line well, happy to run in behind and take on defenders. I feel if I go with my original plan that structurally it'll be difficult to get either of them easily, and I'm also beginning to worry that Schade and Wissa will share more minutes than I initially thought. I saw a few Brentford fans saying it a few weeks ago but figured Wissa had to be fairly assured but I'm starting to think he may be an issue

I might be too carried away with the friendlies but I'm getting very drawn into Chelsea. Kind of considering starting with Chilwell, Jackson & Nkunku. Think their first 4 fixtures are better than anyone's for attack.

I feel the same way, I didn't think they'd look so settled in terms of their setup and style for weeks, maybe months. Definitely think that Liverpool game is going to be one full of goals (Liverpool v Chelsea always seems to be either drab 0-0 or goalfest)

I don't think Klopp's comments on him are very positive. I first read a few lines yesterday and thought it sounded good but reading the full comments definitely draws me back to his comments that seemed to criticise him a bit at the end of last year regarding his need to improve his defensive work

      1. Lovren an elevator

Yeah this is my concern. Do we know if Jota is a better presser then? Could I be him?

          • 3 Years
          10 months, 4 days ago

Jota is undoubtedly better than him at pressing, he's one of the best in that Liverpool side in general at it. I think him returning at the end of last season was a big help in them ending the season on a high note, but I think Nunez is mainly competing with Gakpo at the moment

It's set out in the write up above.

He needs to improve his high press and defensive side of the game. Just as defenders have attacking contributions to make.

I think it's more positive, that he's improving and settling in.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 3 Years
          10 months, 4 days ago

I think it can be taken either way so I won't tell you you're wrong or that I'm right. He definitely does seem to be more settled, but I'm also not going to judge him on matches against a Championship or Bundesliga 2 side in a friendly. Klopp being unimpressed with his defensive work in games like those doesn't bode too well, but it is preseason after all so who knows

Not a bad idea actually. I'm not thrilled with any GK rotation combos. Only problem (for me at least) is it rules out Estupinan/Mitoma

Ah yes true. I couldn't afford mitoma so went with McNeil.
After a couple of weeks, we'll know, then I'll make a sub in the GK department of some sort, cos you're right, it's not ideal

Arsenal gave us quality and cheap midfield options last season like Brighton too.

This season if the fringe players leave the Arsenal squad to ply their trade in other premier league clubs we'll have bargain options at 4m in goal and a starting 4.5m striker quite possibly.

Would this enhance the game or make it too easy early on?

Issa Kaboré is a Burkinabé professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Premier League club Luton Town, on loan from fellow Premier League club Manchester City, and the Burkina Faso national team.

Every day is a learning day.

Doesn't look to have many goals in him but will he play?

      Soft pricing.

If Haaland is out at any point it's an effective free for all.

You couldn't afford KDB, Salah and Kane or Trent but any other combo would probably be on.

It never seems to matter what the pricing is. Twitter/FFs and the like is what makes the teams alike.

A lot of it is to do with questions around those premium assets too though. Kane leaving, Salah playing wide, Trent stuck in midfield, De Bruyne injured…

Agree that prices in general are too low though - Haaland, Brighton players, Bruno and Arsenal mids in particular.

I think Jota has to be ahead given what he offers, he's so good at pressing from the front and gives them a bit of a different option in the way they can attack given he's so good in the air

I don't think he's going to be as good this season personally. Obviously ppm is a consideration given he's 1.5m more than last year, but I'd also expect Tonali will share setpiece duties with him as well which further reduces his appeal for me. If I'm wrong on that then I may rectify it but opening fixtures are poor

Tough choice, I have all of them atm except Diaby, and I'd like to have him as well, but then I'd have to sell Salah or Saka which doesn't feel right... I wish I could play six midfielders, there are so many good value options there.

It is, have to hope we get the right ones from start, like the 7.5 forwards etc, don’t do point chasing or bandwagons after a week using all transfers to do it

Has the first XI played much together in preseason? I've seen bits and pieces including last night's highlights but it seems like most of the first XI had at most 30mins together. Still Højlund to come in too who should benefit the other attackers

That’s part of the concern, feels like they won’t be prepared well enough to hit the ground running, they look a bit disjointed at both ends of the pitch.
