Great article - Cheers Neale, can’t believe there aren’t any other comments on here.

Personally am nailed on FH29 as cannot easily get more than a few players.

I can see the upside in FH37 but by that end of the season a lot of teams are on the beach already and rotation is assured for those with teams nothing to play for.

Thanks, Kev. I think that was my bad, I had yesterday's date timestamped on it for about half an hour!

Yeah, that is very much the risk with GW37, it's the main reason why I typically eschew the TC so late in the season. I suppose FH then means you could hone in on players *with* something to play for but a) they might not be doubling and b) they might be from clubs fighting to avoid the drop or targeting something like a Europa League place, so hardly the cream of the crop.

More and more I'm coming around to the idea of FH29 but I think for this week, until the FA Cup has played out, I'll leave both options on the table.

      This.

Late DGWs when the season is virtually over. At this point gains are negligible and everyone has the same team

I’d have been more upset if Salah was available and Darwin not, but this is still a big disappointment. Luckily my main rivals seem to have similar teams so not damaging mini league prospects.

Great article. I'm trying to avoid avoid FH in 29 as I don't really believe any of the matchups will have a field day in terms of attack.

Getting Toney in for Solanke and squeezing some Spu*s in every week is my plan to see it out

      True.

But that makes the assumption that because there are fewer games being played there won't be hauls from players you wouldn't normally consider owning.

There's no right or wrong answer to this. Like everything else in FPL you have to decide what strategy you feel is going to work best for you personally.

I'm thinking play FH29 unless there are surprises in the FA Cup next week, or City and Pool in draw each in Cup QFs because without that I'm not expecting two big double GW as stated in the article. GW34 could even be a single GW if cup postponements at the weekend are moved to midweek.

FH in big blank like GW29 is not only about that but also couple weeks before and after. You focus your transfer on players you not really want most of the time, missing some good fixtures leading to blank, maybe taking hit or two to field 8-9 players in a blank, it all adds up.

Playing 5 at the back isn't ideal, especially when 2 of them might not even play.

I think I'd want at least one of Saka or Hwang tbh.

Apologies for the long post but I think it might help illustrate chip strategy to lay out specific teams here.

I'm pretty set on WC27 / FH29 now. Think this mitigates some of the difficulties above about balancing the blanks with DGW28 while still leaving me with a GW30 team that's pretty much exactly what I would want on WC30 anyway. All very different lineups for fixture- targeting as you'll see...

      GW26 (Jota & Darwin - Hwang & Hojlund):
      Leno
      Trippier Moreno Estupiñan
      KDB Foden Neto Hwang
      Haaland Toney (C) Hojlund
      (No bench)

      WC27:
      Neto
      Gabriel Senesi Branthwaite (Doughty 3.8)
Salah (C) Son Saka Ødegaard Neto
      Haaland Solanke (Muniz)

      Obviously I can't roll FT if I FH29 so I'm booking in 2 transfers. 28: Ødegaard - Palmer. 30: Doughty - Trent.

      FH29:
      Flekken
      Reguilon Doughty Porro
      Son Richarlison Luiz Kudus
      Toney (C) Watkins

        Sounds very nice. Great plan.

Thanks. If Trent is fit for 27 I might do that. But this allows me a couple weeks leeway on that, plus avoiding the City fixture. Also it gives me double attack v SHU in both 26 & 7 (Neto, Hwang; Saka, Øde). And I think I have to book one move rather than risk burning FT in 28 so may as well use it to target a juicy fixture

I've been putting quite a bit of thought into figuring out 34 as best I can since that is the weak point / compromise of this strategy. I think the FA Cup semi-finalists and their GW34 opponents can't double since their fixture would be moved to the midweek slot. So City (and therefore Spurs), Liverpool, Newcastle & Man Utd (play each other in 34 & both still in) are very unlikely to double. Also Wolves, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton fairly unlikely. I'm basically taking a calculated gamble that DGW34 is going to feature a mostly unappealing set of doublers like EVE/SHU/CRY/BOU/NFO. I can have 2x BOU & EVE, something like that, but will mostly stick to SGW players here I imagine. Then DGW37 should be more like City, Pool, Spurs, Arsenal etc so the team I have shouldn't need major surgery for that

Hopefully LUT v NFO is on in gw29, giving me 7 players before any transfers
            Flekken
            Porro, Moreno, Doughty
            Richarlison
            Morris, Toney

The correct way to use FH was obviously this week, with about 5 minutes before the deadline, racking up about 15 points fewer than your regular team and burning both FTs in the process.

Is Foden overrated as an fpl option? People put him same bracket as Saka as an fpl asset but imo Saka is so much clear of Foden

Take away the hat trick game and Foden has 1 assist in other 5 games.

He can have moments of brilliance like hatty against Brentford but his appeal can be dented if shifted to the wings for tactical match ups

He's not over rated as he's not rated very highly. He's certainly been useful and will happily have him for the next couple of weeks, but he's no Watkins or Saka.

I agree. For his price, with his returns, with City's goals concentrated on Haaland and the rest spread throughout and with City's upcoming fixtures he's very much non essential for me.

Many MCI assets are/were overrated FPL options because they play for that specific team, in my opinion to fully unlock their potential they should leave and be stars in some other teams. At the moment they are just small fish in a huge tank, I guess they're happy with that, winning trophies after all.

Many factors to consider. Minutes & pen duty for example, however, Foden is indeed overrated.

Article states 'we’ll get a couple of big Double Gameweeks' but isn't that unlikely? GW34 cup postponements can just be moved from the weekend to midweek making it a SGW for everybody, and even if it is a DGW City, Liverpool & Spurs won't be amongst the doublers if City and Pool make the FA semi's, and Arsenal and Chelsea are far from certain to double that GW either.

It does seem to me like DGW34 might be quite underwhelming, for the reasons you say. That's why (in my plan above) I'm compromising on the idea of having loads of doublers in 34 if its going to be something like: EVE/CRY/BHA/SHU/BOU/WOL

Pretty much. Gws 29 and 34 look a bit underwhelming for a FH. Gw 37 looks better but I think BB or just no chip will work better.

Hardly in a position to give advice on FH this season, but I would just use it in 29 if you need it. If you don't, and you look ok for 29, then I would just burn it in whatever week looks fun. This week looks as good as any.

Even gw 38 could work - just don't think it's a devastating chip this season due to fixtures and other factors.

      Leno
      Gabriel, Aké, Estupiñán, Branthwaite, Robinson
      Foden, Jota*, Richarlison*
      Haaland (c), Watkins

      Areola, Adebayo, Palmer, Salah

      A. Jota to Saka, field 10
      B. Jota to Saka, Richarlison to Neto/Hwang (- 4)
      C. Jota to Saka, Estu to someone (- 4)
      D. Jota to Neto/Hwang, Adebayo to Hojlund (- 4)

D is a bit like what I'm doing - most appealing for 26 alone but kind of a deadending move since e.g. you might want to sell Hojlund for Solanke in 28. A looks solid regardless of chip stategy

Both good picks & on my shortlist. The "right" decision depends on context - do you have 11 without that slot? Do you have 1FT or 2FT? This is a great week to roll as we'll have lots more info by next week.

Garnacho feels more fun to have - I'd take him if you don't have Holjund and are planning FH29 - I'm planning to snap him up if Man Utd have a fixture in 29.
Douglas Luiz if you need players for GW29.

      a. Darwin to Solanke (Taylor bench)
      b. Jota to Hwang/Neto amd do A in 27
      c. Play Taylor save ft

86 points is a huge let down, darwin and jota getting crocked first game of the dgw, haaland missing all those chances as TC and picking ake over walker and foden blanking once again. Benched him for his haul. Its really hard to appreciate fpl sometimes

Having said that, there were many that went all out for this week, using wild card last week for this one. Selling people like Solanke, Saka and Watkins. I bet you're still in a good position, even with that nasty bit of luck. I for example could have just not taken a hit for KDB and be 4 points better off, but there you go.

Just frustrating with all the planning you do for dgw blanks etc but mostly it doesnt work out. Really tempted to wildcard

Because? Trippier might get assist? Can't see him get a CS.

Mainly talking about selling Palmer for a hit, sure he blanks in GW26 but he's great FPL option, better than Neto.

Pretty rare in PL these days though, right? I'm struggling to think of the last weather cancellation (although there's always a few 'scares')

De Byrne to Neto/Hwang worth a -4 considering his cost, reduced mins and recent hamstring precaution benching
