Sky Sports Focus

We move on to our weekly Sky Sports Focus article, taking a look back at the weekend action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 34 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Crystal Palace vs LiverpoolJames Milner
West Brom vs BurnleyAshley Barnes
Newcastle vs HuddersfieldJonjo Shelvey
West Ham vs SouthamptonMarko Arnautovic
Watford vs BournemouthWill Hughes
Man United vs SwanseaAlexis Sanchez
Brighton vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Everton vs Man CityDavid Silva
Arsenal vs StokeAaron Ramsey
Chelsea vs TottenhamChristian Eriksen

It was all about midfield domination last week, with seven of the ten accolades going to the creative men in the middle.

In terms of popularity, Christian Eriksen was the man to make the most impact on rank due to his lofty 18.9% ownership, David Silva coming in second with just 7.4%.

Both Silva and Marko Arnautovic have now hit six MoTM awards for the season.

The Austrian, in particular, looks a great acquisition right now, off the back of a stunning 21 points this week.

He has an individual matchday on April 16 at home to Stoke City, making him a top captain pick, and he’s also a differential, with just 3.2% backing.

Gameweek 34 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 47 points or more in bonus for the season.

Notes

It’s a tough crowd out there at the moment.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 28 points as captain on Monday night had me thinking I would rise in the ranks, not drop by 28 places.

It could have been even better of course – it was painful to watch as he handed the ball to team-mate Alexandre Lacazette to take the final penalty, denying the Gabonese striker his hat-trick and us the MoTM award that surely would have followed.

Moving forward and now armed with a full TV fixture list, I’m considering some drastic surgery to my team for a final push, although with just six swaps remaining that’s a scary prospect.

I’m thinking of removing Gabriel Jesus, Ben Davies and Theo Walcott this week for Harry Kane, Pascal Gross and Wilfried Zaha. This would leave me with enough in the bank for Roberto Firmino to Romelu Lukaku the following week.

The fact that I’d have just two transfers left to tackle rotation and injuries means it could all backfire, but it allows me to cover all captain matchdays aside from two (West Ham vs Stoke and Everton vs Newcastle) until the season ends.

And it gives me a power frontline of Kane, Lukaku and Aubameyang for the run-in.

Mohamed Salah’s groin tweak may put a spanner in the works here, and Liverpool’s likely progression in the Champions League also raises rotation fears.

But I feel Salah is simply too good to remove, and even if he features in a reduced amount of matches, he could still hurt those who don’t own him.

Captain Plan

Sat April 7 – Harry Kane
Sun April 8 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

          This.
If it wasn't for that fixture it would be easier to sgip Salah now.
Best time to lose him may be pre GW37 with maybe a BB in 37 and get him back for 38.

One less week for Salah to haul. The move is easier to justify closer to the DGWs. Besides, if he's out, your replacement plays 3 more games than him instead of just the 2.

There was a HT about "Salexit" in GW32. People certainly aren't crazy to consider it. It's short-sighted not to see the merit in it. There are pros and cons to every decision, but you're simply choosing a side and trying to ridicule the other.

                6 years, 26 days ago

"The move is easier to justify closer to the DGWs" - That's your problem.

We were arguing about people selling him anyway, before this uncertainty about this weekend started, which I called crazy and you disagreed with. So why are you going back to the possibility of him being out?

A HT is a just a post that gets hulked because a lot of people commented on it. It doesn't mean it's necessarily a 'good' post. And that post was ridiculed by most that week, so I'm not alone.

I'm not ridiculing the other side, I'm saying it's not conclusive that Salah will miss out based on what Klopp said. But people seem to be convincing themselves that he will and some others are following them like sheep. If there's a 50% chance he starts, you know the damage he can do if he does.

You asked what's changed this week:

                  My answer:
                  (1) The fact we are one week closer to the DGW important
                  (2) His injury

I answered your question, dude 😉

                    • 7 Years

You said those on a WC were considering selling him anyway, before this injury uncertainty (this is one week after GW32 wildcarders, which is what I meant).

Rephrased - What changed in one week, before this injury uncertainty?

                    Hope that's clear.

                    1. Deulofail
                      • 8 Years
                      6 years, 25 days ago

                      (1) The fact we are one week closer to the DGW important

                      GW32: Salah (x5) vs Someone else (x7)
                      GW33: Salah (x4) vs Someone else (x6)

                      (Omitting GWs 35 & 38)

But added to this, your original comment does include the injury in your ridicule. If your generous '50%' chance of Salah starting is true, that leaves:

                      GW33: Salah (x3.5) vs Someone else (x6)

But for others who think he's less likely to start (who still aren't crazy), it could be seen more like:

                      GW33: Salah (x3.1) vs Someone else (x6).

Especially since you don't get the second appearance point or CS point for less than 60 mins.

People aren't selling him for one reason or another, but ALL the reasons. If they considered it before the injury, it doesn't mean they did it or that they're crazy. The injury changes the likelihood of points, as you know, given your estimation of him only having a 50% chance of a start.

You just can't stop yourself calling people crazy for *considering* something. The HT was ridiculed for *considering* something. That's wild, man! 😆 You're not alone in this behaviour. I agree with that! 😆

Taking a gamble . Unlikely to play tomorrow . If progress in CL reduced minutes likely . Can get him back in with free hit for 35 . Can buy back in gw38 for last game .

Salah is unlikely going to play 90 mins on saturday. Salah is not going to play two games in dgw34. Pool may win City and Salah's minutes can be managed later. FH 35 allows to field Salah. Salah has no double gw37.

What is there to wait for? I believe I can "gamble" and take the risk that he hauls this saturday and Willian fails. Should that happen and both Willian and Kane also fail gw34 (compared to Salah and Auba), my bad.

If Salah hauls this weekend I’ll eat my hat . You have also misunderstood, I’m saying those that sell Salah are taking the gamble in a hope that Liverpool progress in the CL and his minutes managed . If they don’t and he starts every week until the end of the season , excluding tomorrow then he has the potential to outscore any other player .

Unlikely to play this weekend. That means he has 6 games left....one of which in GW35 when lots are using FH (and hence can bring back in). He can also be brought back in for GW38.

Therefore, selling now means the expectation that someone like Alli (who plays 6 games) will score more than Salah (playing 3 games) in GW33, GW34, GW36 and GW37.....

      1. Cok3y5murf
        • 7 Years

Unlikely how? Just a possibility. Klopp said if he's not 100% he won't play. But we don't know if he won't be 100%.

I can understand selling him in 37. In 34 and 36, I highly doubt Alli will outscore him even with an extra fixture.

So assuming Liverpool goes through against City, here's Salah schedule:

    April 7: eve
    April 14: BOU
    April 22: wba
    April 24/25: UCL SF R1
    April 28: STK
    May 1/2: UCL SF R2
    May 6: che

STK home on GW36 looks like a resting spot. After comes DGW37 with an away game at che which makes City assets way more attractive than Salah with the possibility to revert back to Salah for the last home fixture on GW38 against Brighton

So assuming liverpool goes through in UCL and that you also have your FH to bring him in on GW35 against wba which also is a possible sensible resting spot, and that Salah won't be risked against eve this WE, only GW34 BOU fixture seems very risky as a salah-less owner.

Other than this one, damage should probably be covered (or more) by selling and spreading funds

Massive advantage for FH holders. There was rotation all over the place towards the end of the EL campaign a couple of years back and it'll be the same now I think.

The only weeks I think he'll see the majority of the game are 35 and 38, the same goes for Firmino after this derby.

If Liverpool win all their PL games before Chelsea we will have 100% secured Top 4. Klopp is anxious and will want Top 4 totally settled before the last match, so expect a full strength team particuarly against Bournemouth and Stoke.

          I don't get this logic.

If you see how Liverpool have played this season, Klopp seems to have relied on balancing rotation with team chemistry. That means, not completely overhauling the team before or after a big cup game.

There will be some changes, but not a massive upheaval. We are missing a lot of players due to injury and will have to make do with what we have.

Liverpool have top 4 sorted. Barring an absolute catastrophe, they will finish 4th at least. (They need 11 points from 6 games to secure 4th spot and that's on the basis that Chelsea will win all of their remaining games...)

It looks like Klopp will continue to value both the league and the Champions League like he has always said he will. I think people expecting mass rotation in Klopp's team are going to be somewhat disappointed to be honest.

My team is weighed down with 3xMan City and 3xLiverpool assets.
Not a problem normally, and both teams have good fixtures in the run in.

Any likely candidates to ditch for this GW?
      Otamendi-Sterling-B. Silva
      Salah-Firmino-Robertson

May go Robertson -> a Burnley defender.
Moreno will probably start this GW. And Salah is a season long keeper.
All of the City players could start this GW.

Guardiola spoke about rotation I think. Im getting rid of otamendi next week because he’s expensive and Laporte could get more time at cb. As for Liverpool I’m keeping all 3 for now because one week out for Salah isn’t worth losing for like -0.6 loss. Liverpool still want to push for 2nd/3rd and Moreno is so trash so Robertson should still play. My main worry atm is bavies

Solid wildcard in 32 over here . . . willing to take a -8, what would you do here? No FH, so need to factor in 35 as well

Guys with stars next to their names are the ones I'm willing to move.

      De Gea (Dub)
      Mustafi Lowton Morgan (Valencia*, Dummett*)
      Salah Mahrez Willian (Gudmundsson* Mkhi*)
      Auba Lukaku* Barnes

Help! For DGW34, cant make decision.

      A) Kane, Vardy, Alli -4
      B) Kane, Lukaku, Lingard -8

If B, have only De Gea from ManU which is scary with those fixtures.
A has Son, Kane and Alli. Too much?

      Bottomed...
Would be very grateful for any comments on this WC team:

      Dea Gea / Ryan
      Alonso / Morgan / Lowton / Tarkowski / Stephens
      Eriksen / Mahrez / Willian / GroB / Matic
      Auba (C) / Kane / Barnes
      1.5ITB

Would then do Auba-> Kaku or Vardy ahead of the DWG, FH in GW 35 and look to get Salah back from GW 36.

      Thoughts?
