Spot the Differential – Anderson creativity turns heads for Gameweek 9

While Liverpool team news is perhaps the most popular Fantasy Premier League topic this week, we shouldn’t forget about differentials.

In fact, the recent fitness saga for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds has triggered an inclusion of a poorly owned attacking Anfield asset.

He is one of three options, owned by under 5% of Fantasy bosses, who we like the look of for Gameweek 9.

Felipe Anderson (£6.8m)

Ownership: 2.6%

Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) is, of course, the more popular West Ham option right now but his new colleague Felipe Anderson (£6.8m) is already coming into his own.

His role in set pieces has helped him rise to joint-second for chances created in the last four Gameweeks. He is level with Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and just one behind Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) over that time period.

The Brazilian has been involved in direct free-kicks and his place within West Ham’s front three mean that he is often on the receiving end of crosses from the opposite flank – that’s why he was able to score against Manchester United in Gameweek 7.

Tottenham will be without Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) again on Saturday and may be more vulnerable to a West Ham goal than usual, furthering Anderson’s appeal.

Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m)

Ownership: 1.9%

While Brighton have typically struggled away from home this season, a Gameweek 9 trip to Newcastle United could be their chance to buck the trend.

Only one side has allowed more penalty box goal attempts than the Magpies in home games this season and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in front of their own fans.

For that reason, Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) could be a differential to consider. He has registered a fine balance between creativity and goal threat in the last four Gameweeks and has more shots on target than colleague Glenn Murray in that time too.

Furthermore, his role in set pieces could prove important. No team has conceded more headed attempts on goal than Newcastle in 2018/19.

Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m)

Ownership: 1.3%

No don’t worry, you haven’t accidentally stumbled across an article from 2014, we have actually tipped Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m) for potential success this week.

The Liverpool striker has made a comeback from injury this season that looks like it could be permanent at long last. More importantly, he’s been getting the job done on the pitch with two substitute Premier League goals this season and strikes also in the Champions League and EFL Cup.

With the recent fitness troubles of Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Sadio Mane (£9.8m) there is every reason that Sturridge could come into the side for the trip to Huddersfield Town.

Given he has averaged a goal every 21.5 minutes in the Premier League this season, a start in Gameweek 9 would stand him in good stead for attacking returns.

Good for Salah owners though. The feeling is he plays but how can non owners justify bringing a 12.8 million doubt into their squad when he's not 100% to play. Hopefully the ones who stuck by him get rewarded

Aguero on pens, rested, likely nailed for this game, but not guaranteed to play 90 min
Sterling on crazy form, played IB matches, likely to stay on pitch longer than Kun.

Aguero (last 3 PL games at home)
      90 min - 6p
      53 min - 7p
      65 min - 8p

Sterling (last 3 PL games at home)
      90 min - 10p
      73 min - 8p
      90 min - 14p

Have both Sterling and Aguero in my team. Who to captain?

Based on that I would say Sterling. Funny how Sterling is on everyone's radar now, but earlier when he was mentioned he was too expensive for some odd reason...

Partly the reason, but people didn't want to buy Hazard either. My point is most people (myself included) get too tunnel visioned on a select few players that get hyped up too much...

Hazard and Sterling should have been top picks a lot earlier in the season...

I wanted to pick Sterling a while back but chickened out of it, even though his stats were very promising. Would have been much better off if I had gone through with it.

      Trent Reaction
Trent Alexander-Arnold was dropped for the clash against Manchester City - and Jurgen is asked about that decision.

“He is a fantastic boy and a fantastic player. Thank God we have a few options to change the line-up.

“I don’t think it’s a challenge but if a player struggles with something like that [being dropped] he will struggle over his career.

“It was his birthday the City game so I thought the night before a lot of people might have contacted him so I didn’t want to disturb all these message exchanges.

“Joe can play there and with respect deserved to play. I think about the players I line-up first not what it would mean for Trent. It was nothing. He came back in a good shape and a good mood.”

David Silva going under the radar?

Could be a nice player in my WC team with so much uncertainty right now.

With KDB back there is a slight risk of rotation, but good value pick imo.

Hazard not an option this week for me, Mou has pulled off the Hazard disappearing trick before.
Its really between Salah and Kun.

On wildcard and leaning towards Sterling with a plan to go to Salah/Mane next week.

Sensible or just take a risk on the Pool attacker.

Just to mention guys that Salam’s 4 blanks this season have come against Chelsea, Man City, spurs and Leicester. He thrives in games like tomorrows
