Captains

Captain Sensible – Man City take centre stage in Gameweek 37

Manchester City options have dominated the captaincy for Gameweek 37, but are not the only ones worth considering.

The defending champions host Leicester as they close in on a second succesive Premier League title and have largely been a formidable force at home.

However, the Foxes will be no pushovers considering the work Brendan Rodgers has done since arriving at the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, there’s a tough fixture for Liverpool at Newcastle and Manchester United and Chelsea have easier opponents.

We’ve covered the Gameweek 37 captaincy debate from all angles to bring you what we think of the key candidates.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) tops the captain poll for Gameweek 37 ahead of Leicester City’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on Monday night. He has been backed by 37.26% at the time of writing. The Argentinian may be waiting for his first Premier League goal at home since February, but he still has Fantasy returns in every single match he has started at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) is sat in second place but surprisingly has just 13.9% backing. That may because he has blanked in five of his last eight Premier League matches. However, the midfielder certainly offers powerful points potential in what will be a crucial fixture for Manchester City’s title bid. In the 10 home matches that both Sterling and Aguero have started this season, the Englishman has outscored his colleague on six occasions.

Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) completes the top three with the support of 9.5% ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle. The interest in the Egyptian is understandable given that he has attacking returns in each of his last five Premier League outings. In fact, it is now his longest run without a blank all season. Furthermore, no midfielder has more away goals than Salah in 2018/19.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) heads up the differentials department with 7.07% support ahead of Fulham’s visit to Molineux. His goal at Watford was actually his first since the Gameweek 30 trip to Chelsea, meaning the Mexican is without one at home since the 2-0 win over Cardiff in Gameweek 29. Jiménez’s backing is almost certainly based on the fixture, with the Cottagers still the worst side defensively this season. However, Scott Parker has managed to achieve clean sheets in each of Fulham’s last three matches.

Just behind Jiménez is Eden Hazard (£10.9m) on 6.79% with Watford coming to Stamford Bridge. The Hornets have conceded 1.55 goals per away game this season, and have fared even worse on their travels to top six sides in 2018/19. They have been breached 14 times in such matches this year, averaging 2.8 per game. Meanwhile, Hazard himself has registered double-figure scores in three of his last four at home and, with rumours surrounding his future, this could potentially be his final Premier League match at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player.

Despite a favourable fixture in a trip to Huddersfield, interest in Manchester United players has been decidedly low for Gameweek 37. That has been reflected in the captain poll where Paul Pogba (£8.5m) is the most popular Red Devil with just 4.1% of the vote. The Frenchman has just two goals since Gameweek 27, both of which came from the penalty spot against West Ham in Double Gameweek 34. Romelu Lukaku (£10.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) also have minimal support, 2.27% and 1.3% respectively, and both have questions over their fitness and form ahead of Gameweek 37. The pair has just five goals between since Gameweek 27.

The cheaper alternatives to Salah and Jiménez are also inside the top 10 but are not going to be huge players in the Gameweek 37 captaincy scene. Sadio Mané (£10.2m) has pulled in just 3.3% for the trip to Newcastle, while Diogo Jota (£6.3m) has 2.86% support for Fulham’s visit to Molineux.

Son Heung-min (£8.9m) completes the top 10 with his 1.86% backing ahead of Spurs travelling to Bournemouth, while Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is the only other option with more than 1% backing. The Icelandic international will be in action for Everton on Friday night as Burnley come to Goodison Park.

4-1 Trent, not really what I expected but he looks good in the members area! Better comparing the last 4 IMO. Only worry is Gomez but I guess TAA should start at the weekend and, given that they are knocked out by Barca, there is only one game left of the season so can't see why he would be benched for that

A bit reluctant to take a hit at this point, ut am tempted to do

    Eriksen + Verthongen -> Hazard(C) + Jonny -4pts

Armband currently on Kun, but need a strong differential to climb OR and ML. But then Haz and Jonny not good options for GW38 - maybe Eriksen -> Pogba still the better move, what do you think?

Aguero if playing safe, has attacking returns in all home games he has started.
Sterling if you are chasing, if he scores he scores BIG.

Depends which cup is more important.

Sterling to try to win both leagues (but risk losing the one you are 6 ahead in)

Agueto to very likely win the one you are leading but concede the one you are behind in

HELP! Basically it is between myself and a colleague to win a work mini-league. We are level on points!
We share half our teams already, two Liverpool defenders, Sterling, Mane and Jiminez.

Main dilemma is midfield. He has Pogba, Deufelou and Milivojevic. I have Son, Lucas Moura and Holjberg.
    Here are my options:
    1. Son to Pogba - to cover Man Utd fixtures + just think the wheels are falling off at Spurs (despite Son not playing CL this week)
    2. Lucas Moura to JWP/Redmond - really like Southampton coming up (not considering Jota due to potential Wolves rotation and weird tendency to play worse against weaker opposition)
    3. Lucas to Babel - PUNT
    4. Andre Gray to Long - same as option 2

I'd be fine without Pogba except I'd be irate if Pogba got a haul (especially as Utd are my team!)

Could you do firminio & eriksen to Aguero & Jota?

Rashford & Hazard are good picks and if they do well and Aguero, Jota blank you’ll get a big rank boost.

BUT, Jota & Aguero will ha r huge EO this week so not owning them is very high risk in my opinion.

He's capable of playing multiple games in a row, had plenty experience given his importance to both Spurs and SK.

He is vital for every remaining game and has just had a rest.

Their best chance of champs league next season is still top 4 and they need that with the new stadium.

Controversial opinion: this weeks premier league game is more important for Spurs than the Ajax game

Chasing a 27 point deficit so going to triple captain Hazard this weekend. Transfer wise i'm thinking either Duffy > Shaw or saving and doing nothing, what do you prefer?

    Current team:

    Ryan
    Kolasinac / Doherty / Valery
    Hazard (C) / Son / Salah / Jota
    Aguero / Rashford / Firmino

    Foster / Camarasa / Valery / Bednarek

Son and Firmino - OUT for a hit this week?

    a) are you crazy Son has a great record against BOU and Firmino is fit again now.
    b) Salah and Long - Salah challenging for title and golden boot and Long suddenly with a bit of form and HUD in GW38.
    c) Hazard and Rashford - Hazard rested in Europa League, against WAT leaky defence and Rashford has HUD
    d) Just change Firmino for Long
    e) Just change Firmino for Rashford
    f) Son for Pogba - just thought I'd throw this one in there despite not liking Pogba at all at the moment.

Not a lot of options... Lukaku for differential maybe? Or Jimi if you don't have him? Prob best to stick with Bobby.

I do already have Jimenez. Lukaku too expensive. Thinking I do nothing and just stick with Firmino like you say .... at least I would go into GW38 with 2FT. Thanks for your input.

Which is the best -4? Already have (c) Sterling

    A) Moura to Bilva, Mane plays
    B) Moura to Pogba, Mane plays
    C) Mane to Hazard, Moura plays (or Morrison (CRY))
    D) No hit, Mane and Moura/Morrison play

    Thanks!

B but it's risky with Pogba's form despite playing HUD, so probably D

    Chasing (28) points in ML
    My team;-
    Ryan(foster)
    TAA, laporte, doherty (Valery, Bednarek)
    Salah, mane, son, moura, jota
    Aguero(C) Jimenez (Gray)

    Opponents team;-
    Lloris(foster)
    TAA, doherty, dunk, Valery, carhart
    Sterling, mane, son, jota, JWP
    Aguero, lacazete, Jimenez

Any ideas on trades and is it worth a - 4 or - 8 point hit. Was thinking along the likes of
    Son, mane, Doherty, Gray,
    Out for 1,2or3
Of hazard, pogba, b. Silva. AWB, long

Who do you think will find form and step up to score big this GW, and why?

Maybe someone who hasn't had a double digit score in a while, who has a series of no attacking returns, or has very low ownership.

Do you think it will be an already-established name in many of our sides or someone who is a major differential?

Have you seen something in a someone's play or in their stats to make you think they could be ready for a breakout GW?

              Yes, recently.

« 100% of the 14 saves that Sergio Rico (£4.4m) has made in his last three matches came from shots inside the box, suggesting that Fulham’s three successive clean sheets owed a lot to their custodian and less to the defence in front of him. No goalkeeper was tested by more shots in the box than Rico in the last three Gameweeks. »

Says today’s article on key stats

In the last 4 GWs they sit mid table for "goal attempts conceded in the box" with 30, half of the worst team.
Not sure what you're looking at for "most shots conceded in the box or close". What's closer than in the box? Is outside the box close?

Last 4 matches - Goal Attempts in Box Conceded
                  48 - Huddersfield
                  46 - Palace
                  43 - Arsenal
                  42 - Fulham

Fulham are 3rd worse if looking at shots on target.

Camarasa, Hoilett, Morrison,... one of the Cardiff boys.

They have been very unlucky this season (especially with ref decisions), but they have kept playing relatively well. It’s their last chance, they will beat Palace.

Pretty sure that Hazard will do well after his rest. Also have a feeling that one of the Digne/Coleman will hit a big score against Burnley. Maybe Babel too as an outside punt, expecting that game against Wolves to be fairly open.
