Bournemouth attack appeals but defence remains suspect

With Bournemouth sitting third in our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of 2019/20 and meeting only two of the ‘big six’ in that time, there will be plenty of interest in their Fantasy assets from the off.

Despite £2.0m price hikes, Ryan Fraser (£7.5m) and Callum Wilson (£8.0m) currently sit in more than one in five Fantasy Premier League squads – although the ‘auto-pick’ selections will be skewing Wilson’s figure slightly.

Joshua King‘s (£6.5m) ownership is also in excess of 20% at the time of writing.

We have already taken an in-depth look at King and Wilson in a Members’ article, which examines the pair’s attacking credentials in a direct head-to-head comparison.

This Numbers Game piece will explore Bournemouth’s wider attacking threat but also analyse their defensive numbers from 2018/19.

Nathan Ake (£5.0m) is, perhaps surprisingly given the Cherries’ well-documented problems at the back, currently the most popular FPL defender in the £4.5m-£5.0m bracket, having been drafted in by over 16% of FPL bosses.

    Thoughts on this?

    Ederson (4.0)
    Robertson, TAA, VVD, Coleman, Laporte
    Siggy, Fraser, Milli/Zaha, Perez (4.5)
    Kun, Jiminez (4.5)

The value v cap conundrum ey? I'm not sure capping Kun every week is good but I do think Mo offers value via capping in a duo with Kun or Sterling.

    Thoughts? No Sterling or Kane.

    Ryan
    TAA - Robbo - Laporte - Digne
    Salah - KDB - Siggy
    Vardy - King - Adams

    Button - Jorginho/Noble - Dendoncker - Kelly

Know what you mean, Deulo's first 4 games are decent though, Jota may depend on Europa rotation at first

Thoughts on Vardy? Get him in from the off or get him on WC at around week 6/7?

Think I've hyped him up so much that I'm almost forced to start with him. Great stats against top 4 and the suppliers behind him means he's pretty much fixture-proof.

Tricky with Mo & Sterling + heavy 4 at the back, would probably have to go KDB & Vardy and that feels a tad cap-lite for now.

I really want Vardy, but I agree with Salah & Sterling it’s too difficult to fit him in without killing your defence

        If you get a 6M second striker and a mid of 6.5M , 6M for 3rd and 4th it's doable.

It wasn't a plan, I had 3 at one point.
Triple Liverpool defence with Sterling captain changed to Digne and Salah.
KDB changed to Sigurdsson + some cash.
Laporte changed to Coleman to upgrade a mid.

I haven't really owned City assets for the last two seasons, there just seems to be better value elsewhere.

I would honestly switch one of your 5.5 defenders to a 4.5 and Walker to Robertson and keep KDB. You get TAA, Robertson, Ederson, Salah, KDB and Kane that way. Worth having a 4.5m defender for those 6 imo

Thanks - interesting idea. I'm sorta thinking that clean sheets from City & Liverpool defence outweighs lack of clean sheets from 4.5 with added attacking returns of Robbo. Hard to know though - he'd need to have another exceptional season, which is possible & going with Gomez is risking with rotation - food for thought for sure!

The eternal question, Sterling or Aguero?

Sterling seems to be the preference on here, but for the same price you get a player who is slightly more rotation-proof and on pens. As most have Salah it is also easier to switch out the Argentinian if needs be.

    Although Sterling has the numbers.

Out of the two Sterling for me. I think Kane will outscore Aguero personally and that Jesus will get a few more games this season. Aguero will get 2-3 hattricks as usual, but the trick is predicting when these are going to come and captaining him at the right time. Sterling will get more double digit hauls over the season. fwiw I don't have either. I've gone Salah, KDB, Kane.

Bench? There's a few question marks over Zaha, but if looks as good as it gets for an Aguero team. I'm not sure Digne is worth 6.0, especially when you could get a proven-performer like Azpi who has great fixtures from GW2.

After GW1 I'm going with a settled (famous last words) back four of VVD Robbo Azpi Walker. I prefer VVD & Azpi over TAA & Coleman.

The early WCs will be flying with too much money tied up in premium defenders. Never works as early strategy

    A) Jorginho
    B) Kante

I know I know, neither are exciting picks but I need a makeweight 5.0 mid in my 4-3-3. I have a feeling Kante will have less license to go forward this season and revert to the position where he plays best so unlikely to outscore Jorg, who also has an outside chance of being on penalties.

I have A. An early penalty conversion should see his price rise as casuals jump on a cheap goal scorer from a team they know. Hopefully he can finally manage an assist or two as well.

Yeah this is sound thinking. And if it looks like he's not starting it's an easy switch to Kante or some other as yet unknown sub-5 gem.

Really? In that case it has to be Kante. 100% nailed, whereas we can't say that about Jorginho can we?

When and where did you read this? The last comments I've seen Frank make about Kante is he knows, like everyone else, what Kante's best position is (ie. protective midfielder)

Yep. Noble or Norwood are other options. Wilshire played well in West Ham's friendly today. Most likely he'll get injured pretty sharpish and he isn't worth bringing in to start with but if he manages to play the first 4 or 5 without injuring himself, he might become another 5.0 option.

    Some punty differentials on KDB/Yarmalenko

I take it it's non-playing fodder? That could be a problem if so. Zaha is at risk of not playing the first game, Yarmolenko is coming back from an injury and has a lot of competition for places, Walker gets rested occasionally, TAA might get rotated at random intervals and KDB might be rotated more after last season proved to Pep that he's not invincible.

I don't like the 1 striker formation because that means you automatically have 2 non-playing subs. Zaha to a playing 4.5 mid and a 4.5m striker to King imo. That way at least you have somebody on the bench. The 0.5 left over can be used for Coleman - Digne, or kept just in case Yarm doesn't play and you need to upgrade him.

Thanks mate, surfacely it looks good but as u said too many uncertainities in this squad & bench wont cover in this formation as others..totally helpful effort.appreciate!!!

TAA won't rotate until CL if at all.
Monitor the Walker situation, arguments could be made for Zinchenko (if he nails starting spot - this also saves 0.5M).

KDB hasn't removed the invincible marker because he was still injured for the majority of last season.
Yarmo has had longer than needed with his injury already

TAA has been rotated with Gomez especially during the tougher games. Yarm, Anderson, Snodgrass, Lanzini, Antonio, Fornals, even Wilshire are all competing for 3 positions. Because KDB was injured all last year Pep is likely to take measures not to run him into the ground so that it doesn’t happen again.

Anyway, I’m not saying any are bad picks, I’m giving a worst case scenario to demonstrate that at least 1 playing sub is needed.

Problem with this website is that everyone looks at worst pick.

With lack of a striker WH will play (WHU fan)

              Antonio - Lanzini - Anderson
              --------- Yarmolenko -----------

If we do sign Haller. Haller up top, Antonio drops to bench. Fornals is young and will be rotated in even though he's had a good U21s.

TAA rotated towards the CL fixtures when he picked up knocks. He won't rotate at start of season.

Similar to mine except you have a better midfield and I have a better defence. Good team, I would sacrifice somebody to get a Man City defender though. Even if you have to remove Digne. City are more important imo.

VVD / Laporte / Digne / Ake (Kelly)
    Salah(c) / KDB / Siggy (Kante, Dendoncker)
    Kane / King / Deulofeu

Not interested in being too defence heavy with pool double ups for example, spread funds across the board. Any tips?

Nice team. I have no obvious suggestions if you’re not worried about not having the Liverpool defensive double up. Maybe change Ake and Kelly to two 4.5s so you can rotate but that’s it.

yes imo...if one of your starters gets injured, use your FT because you won't want to put them on bench of course

Dendoncker is a likely starter as well anyways
