Scoutcast Episode 367 – Double Gameweek attention turns to Leeds and Saints

Joe and Seb are joined by David to look at the key issues facing Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Double Gameweek 25.

As part of a flurry of Double Gameweeks, Leeds and Southampton take their turn to play twice in the upcoming set of fixtures.

As well as playing each other, the Yorkshire outfit take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, while the south coast side face Chelsea’s resolute defence.

With the more favourable of the fixtures, Leeds assets take top billing. As a fan of the club, Seb takes our trio on a deep dive into Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics, favoured line-up and team strengths, ahead of these important Gameweek 25 matches for Fantasy Premier League managers. This discussion includes David’s analysis on why one particular Leeds player is so key to their chances of goals and clean sheets.

Danny Ings (£8.4m) looks to be the main target for the Scoutcast crew among Saints options, especially with his lethal finishing. He could also be a shrewd long-term investment should his side gain further double Gameweeks over the next month.

Elsewhere, Joe wonders which well-owned players could be surplus to requirements in the clamour for Double Gameweek stars. Could Liverpool and Manchester United’s penalty takers be jettisoned? Or is a certain Aston Villa talisman the man to make way?

Our trio give an update on their mixed fortunes in Double Gameweek 24 so far and reveal their transfer and captaincy plans for the week ahead.

Meanwhile, next four fixtures are frisked as the short-term gain of Double Gameweeks is assessed alongside the longer-term points potential of planning ahead, for the single and Blank Gameweeks to come.

Seems a close call. If I'm playing Pope over Martinez, Cresswell probably better I guess, not all eggs in one basket ect.

Hi lads, struggling with what strategy is best for me, have a WC and TC, 1FT & 0.5 ITB.

    Areola, Johnstone
    Cancelo, Mee, Dallas, Coufal, Lowton
    Salah, Sterling, Bruno, Gundo, Raphinha
    DCL, Bamford, Wood

Is a WC this week then TC next week the move? Do already have triple Leeds this week.
    Thanks

That chip strategy is the go-to these next two weeks. If you already have triple Leeds you could bring in Ings and take out DCL for DGW 25. then take out Ings using FT for Watkins in DGW 26. And stack up on Spurs and Villa IMO using Wc but up to you.

With that team I would roll and use 2FT next week to sort out for the DGW. Play TC next week.

      WC after BGW29

At least that's what I'm doing!

Trying to decide whether to avoid DGW glasses, who scores most this GW:

    a) Kane
    b) Ings (-4)

Considering the following: Richarlison + Saka > Kane + Minamino
    What do you think?

    McCarthy
    TAA Cancelo Stones Mee
    Bruno Gundo* Son
    Richarlison DCL* Ings(c)

    Martinez | Mitchell, Saka, ESR

    2 FTs. 6.0 ITB.

I can then bench Stones, and hopefully take advantage of Saints' and Spurs' upcoming DGWs. No real chip strategy yet, probably FH in 29, depending on transfers in upcoming weeks (WC/TC also available). This would leave 2.0 ITB. And also ESR to play BUR in GW27.

The form saints are in and the uncertainty around Minamino (he was subbed early last game/unproven) then Raphinha is such an obvious move right now - plus you have transfers down the line

      This is the question .....

I don't think Ings will get anything from the Chelsea game but it's the Leeds def. He could get a goal or two. I think Leeds are the ideal opponents for Soton with their high press and forcing Leeds to make a mistake which Meslier is prone to make

I did Soucek > Raph with 1FT. Will have 2FT next week. As it stands I am ignoring Ings unless they get their double double!
    Which looks better **for GW26**?

    A) Antonio, Son > Kane, Maddison/ Barnes (Kane, no Son)
    B) Antonio, Pope > Kane, fodder (Kane + Son double up)
    C) Antonio, DCL > Vardy, Watkins (Keep Son, no Kane)

May add a -4 to any of the above for Coufal or Dallas > a DGW def also....

    1FT 3.4itb
    Pope
    Dias, Dallas, Shaw
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Gundogan, Raphinha
    Bamford (C), DCL
    (Martinez) (Stones, Antonio, Coufal)

Planning TC in 26 and WC in 30 prob.

I like C. Spurs so stodgy. Can get the other one if they start to look a bit better.
Would rather Kane as TC than Son, but seems a waste to swap them and Son could easily do better in those two games.

        Thanks mate.

The only issue with keeping Son and no Kane is the lack of pens and Son has been missing his lethal final touch, whereas Kane has been more reliable when he has played.

I kept Kane the last few weeks, missed his points when he came back but was supposed to be injured, and succesfully benched this week for Coufal. Overall glad I did. In two minds about getting Sonny in too, though really is unavoidable if dead-ending in GW29 as you (and I) are planning.

B for me mate. Can easily downgrade one of Kane or son if needed.
C is not a bad option either. With spurs’ fixture congestion there’s more chances of Kane getting rested/ injured than son imo.

I have the exact same front 8 as you and have been thinking over similar options. C is the one I keep coming back to. Gives you some Spurs coverage but covers Leicester's good fixtures. I know Kane has pens but so does Vardy.

All are good options, quite like B as it seems a waste to have so much cash tied up in Pope. DCL and Son could both be handy in double so be more reluctant to lose them but if DCL is injured then C makes sense

Thanks Pat - those are definitely the main options for me.

All depends how Kane + Son looks this week I think and DCL's fitness.

C is probably most exciting and highest potential to rocket me up the rankings if it works

    Pope
    Dias Stones Dallas
    Salah Fernandes Son Gundogan
    Cavani Bamford(c) Antonio

    Johnstone Soucek Coufal Mitchell
    1FT 3.2m

    Have WC, TC and BB.

    Options are:
    A) Roll FT and take a -4 to get as many doublers in 26 and TC Kane (1 of 3 coming in)
    B) WC
    C) Cavani to Ings (but makes 26 very tricky, would basically do Pope to Martinez and Ings to Kane).

    1. Fulchester's New Centr…

A - already have Bam (c), not wild about Ings and in your case makes 26 a chore. WC seems like a waste when you already have a good core.

I can get to this team for BB26 with 3 hits (-12) 😯 over the next two gw's but it means i can save my WC for gw31. Will FH29

    Martinez • Mccarthy
    Cancelo • Stones • Digne • Shaw • Lowton
    Gundog • Bruno • Son • Grealish • Barnes
    Ings • Kane • Bamford

A: WC25. Will have to take a 4 point hit regardless for 26.
B: Go with this. Means a 12 hit point but save WC. Also means no salah or raphinha in 25.

So the question is whether 8 point and Salah for the double is worth a WC or not?

You need an option C - your team doesn't need a WC at all but -12 is too much - will destroy your rank

WC25 and BB26, no free hit left. This would leave me with possibly 9 players for BGW29, so using FTs I would get a full starting XI for BGW29, if Aston Villa - Tottenham is played then. Any improvements with 0.0 left ITB?

        Martinez - Areola
        Stones - Dier - Dallas - Aina - White
        KDB - Son - Fernandes - Gundogan - Raphinha
        Kane - Ings - Bamford

There may be better GW's to BB though. Areola, Dallas , Aina, White, Raphinha, Bamford will probably only have one fixture in GW26.

          WC team.

          Martinez, McCarthy
          Dias, Stones, Shaw, Strujik, 4.5m
Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Gundo (or Foden), Jorginho
Kane, Ings, Bamford (will switch to Wadkins for GW26)

TV only 103.9m, so just 4.5m left to spend on a defender. Will BB GW26 if it's a DGW, so would prefer somebody who's likely to play twice that GW.

Why I don't see many picking up KDB with their wildcards? He might not be in 100% condition yet, but surely will start at least other game in DGW, and well, he is KDB after all. Also, if you don't pick him now with your wildcard you are most likely going to spend a FT getting him in your squad soon anyway.

Honestly - he was bordering on being a nightmare to own for the most part this season (obviously tongue in cheek but he was a seriously frustrating asset)

Wasted so many chances, giving away penalties, injuries, massive price tag

I never seem to time it right with him, either get him in too soon and watch him blank for weeks, or get him in too late and miss the inevitable haul. I'd rather just steer clear now personally.

            Currently on this:

            Pope
            Alioski, Shaw, Cancelo, Stones
            Fernandes, Gundo, Salah
            Ings(c), Bamford, DCL

            Martinez, Grealish, Barnes, Dier

            Will probably do:
Alioski to Target and Ings/Bam to Watkins for DGW26 and BB.

            All sound OK?

            WC team (BB 26)

            Martinez McCarthy
            Cancelo Stones Shaw Dallas Targett
            Bruno Gundo Salah Raphinha Barnes
            Kane Ings Bamford

Will then take out Dallas in GW26, probably for Lowton.

Cheers. Wary of taking out Bamford as I'll probably want him back, would lose 0.3m doing it. Maybe Raphinha out then.

WC this bunch of bad boys? 4.0 ITB. Got BB and TC left.
